Franklin House Tavern, Schaefferstown PA

Love Franklin House, especially around the holidays. The food is great, and they always decorate so pretty for Christmas. Met a friend there for lunch, and the service was quick and friendly, the food was hot and good, and we enjoyed the atmosphere of this historic property. I need to come here more.

Three of our four meals were sent back to the kitchen due to raw meat. When they returned, there was little improvement. Sides were cold, main dish unseasoned and flavorless. Also had only one server caring for the dining room, so service was slow and largely inattentive.

I love the atmosphere here and have dined at the bar where there were just 2 of us and ate in the dining rooms with larger parties and the service has been much better at the bar. I really enjoyed the grilled ceaser salad with shrimp!

My fiancé and I went here for the first time. When we entered, we were greeted and sat in the dining room. We were greeted by our server and had placed our order. The service wasn’t horrible but it also wasn’t great. The waitress seemed new, but friendly. We received our receipt and the receipt said we could scan and pay that way. The receipt said that the restaurant would be notified that we paid. That’s exactly what we did. On our way out of the restaurant we said goodbye to two workers and were sitting in our car for a few minutes. When sitting in our car, there was a knock on the window. Two workers were by our car and asked us if we paid for our meal. When we said we had paid by scanning they said oh okay thanks we just wanted to make sure. It was most definitely an uncomfortable experience being accused of not paying our bill. The service was not good and then that. Definitely will not be returning. They should take away that option to pay if they’re going to accuse their customers of not paying at all. Very unprofessional.

I really wanted to be able to put more stars on this review but I just can’t. We were just so unhappy with our last visit there and I don’t usually leave reviews but feel this one is necessary.

We called to order take out. They told me to hold for a minute, then got back on the phone to take my order. They took my order and said it would be about 25-30 minutes for the food to be ready. We waited 30 minutes and arrived at the restaurant to pick up the food. To make a long story short, we waited and waited for at least an extra 45 minutes for our food after we already waited 30 minutes to arrive there.

They were clearly busy which we understand. If they are too busy to take a take out order and have it finished in the time that they say, then they should let people know that at that time they are not taking take out orders. I rather have them tell me they are too busy to take my order then say yes, take the order, wait 30 minutes to go to the restaurant, then at least another 45 minutes there.

And maybe a few months prior to this visit, we had gone here, sat down and waited so incredibly long for our food, about an hour. Their biggest downfall here is not having food out or ready in a timely manner.

Great place, the food is excellent, good beer selection and there’s a lot of history in that place.

We were here about a month or two ago and enjoyed it. The atmosphere was great. The menu correctly described its items. The food was good and the staff was polite and cheerful.

Charming tavern. Good food. I would definitely go back. At Christmas it was especially cute. $$$

Wondeful High Tea event. Too bad they burn the soup and somehow did not notice the terrible smell when they ladeled it into the bowls.
Other than that, the atmosphere was terrific. The service was pretty good. The concept exceptional.

This place is very nice. Called last minute to see if they could accommodate a large group of us on the way home from an outing & they sure did! Wonderful staff, food is excellent! Highly recommended

Food is always great
Service is fantastic. Busy place. Historic building. Great table games is an added bonus. Will definitely be going back.

Went on a Wednesday night, and the place was empty with the exception of a small party in another room. Service was friendly but poor. We waited half an hour for appetizers, and an hour and a half to get entrees. The staff seemed to be focused on the party in the other room and forgot about patrons. When I payed the check there was no manager to be found to complain to, I got no apology nor did the staff attempt to rectify the situation. I gave 2 stars because the food, when received was actually ok. Unless you have a few hours to kill waiting for food then avoid this place.

A fair meal but I thought it was a little pricey. The online menu also did not match the actual menu on site due to something such as filet mignon not being offered or taco salad. One of the people in our group had their burger very overcooked. The waitress did offer to bring us another one and took the price off our bill. I would love to go to one of the ghost hunting experiences here as they seem to be very popular and intriguing. I liked it almost more as a historical site then I did as a place to dine

This was a great old tavern to visit. There is a lot of history here. This place has been running since the mid 1700’s. The food was great, the service was very good and the bartender was very personable and warm. I def recommend coming here to anyone who wants good food and drinks set to a centuries old theme!

We sat on the tavern side after we asked to be moved from the rear dinning room. I don't bring this up because there was anything wrong with the rear dinning room, only to commend the customer service of the staff as they were happy to accommodate. The bartender Amanda made a great Woodford Old Fashioned are not kidding when they say the chilli was award winning, it was delicious! My tavern burger was good, but the bun seemed to over power the flavor. The winner of the evening was the blackened swordfish. They had a large assortment of desserts they bring out on a tray. The parking was tight, we might park in the church lot across the street next time. We will definitely be planning a visit back.
