Gettysburg National Military Park reviews
17Wonderful memorial to our American History. Many places to stop and reflect on an important part of our country. There are many historical markers and tours to take for the entire family. If you can use the certified tour guides for your adventure. Stop at the visitor center before you start to get valuable information.
An awesome historic site that shows the 3-day battle of Gettysburg and history of area. It's a great place to bring your kids and has a great interactive Museum which is worth your time.
Sobering experience. When you think of the loss that happened, it touches the heart. We spent half a day driving through the battlefield using the Gettysburg Tour app ($15 to purchase and well worth it) All of the monuments and scenery are well preserved. The scenery is beautiful, and the park well kept. Highly recommend if your in the area to drive through.
Really loved visiting the battlefield. Was not crowded the day I went and I was surprised it was free to enter the park. Wil visit again.
A must visit place for sure! Full of history and beautiful sights. The self drive tour was actually easy to follow. You could hire a personal tour guide to ride with or take the bus tour from the visitor center. It took a decent whole day to go through the entire park but it’s worth of time for sure. Great place to have your kids to learn the history of this nation in person not just reading it from the book or online.
What a profound experience we have here. This was the place where so many soldiers were killed in the past and being here gives you a sense of duty, humility, and honor. You can explore this park in two ways; by car or on foot. And yes we chose the harder way- by foot. There are a lot of monuments that you can climb and enjoy the panoramic view. I'm glad we didn't choose to be in the car! It took us a whole day to explore the place, so better be here early.
Spent a good portion of the day here. Much to take in from a pivotal period in America's history. Don't plan it as being a "fun" day. An eerie somber feeling took over me being there. War is never something to be taken lightly.especially on this level. It's heavy.
Gettysburg National Military Park is such an interesting place to express and learn so much about history. The feeling you get on the grounds, at least for us, was unexplainable. Definitely worth the visit.
If you appreciate history, you need to visit Gettysburg. If you don't really appreciate history, you need to visit Gettysburg.
This is a very historic battlefield and the history associated with it is fascinating. Budget a few hours especially if you are interested in driving around the battlefield to see all of the areas important in the evolution of the battle. The monuments and trail are really nice and it's amazing to see the landscape that the battles occurred upon. While all of these elements are terrific, the Visitor Center really has become a tourist trap and was not like this when I visited about 20+ years ago. While you can look at some exhibits for free, the museum is only seen by a fee, but I would be happy to get to get into the site overall without having to pay for each element. The store is also incredibly kitschy with lots of junky souvenirs. If this had been less touristy, this battlefield would have retained its original charm.
Amazing experience and it was helpful that there is an option for people to drive from one spot to another. We did not have time to do everything in one day, so we will definitely be back again.
A beautiful historic site with hundreds of memorials, you can not do this park in one day. I recommend doing the auto tour if you want to learn a bit about the park and see the key memorials.
Amazing! Exceeded expectations. Use a park guide for the ultimate historical journey. Monuments, battle fields, artifacts, time piece artillery, snd other fantastic living historical treasures.
Awesome place for history, walking, hiking and biking. I only did a quick stop by but will be back on bikes to explore the entire park.
Nothing really prepares you for the size of this battlefield or the incredible loss of life. It is heartwrenching and somber. The memorials, from both sides, are beautiful.
This was my first time here. Ended up doing the auto tour (you drive around in a 20+ mile loop visiting check points for key areas during the battle). Took over 3 hours, and even with that there were so many things we didn't see (memorials, hiking trails, horse hack, museums, etcetera). I suggest bringing snacks, water and very comfortable hiking/walking shoes. I don't know if this would be appropriate for young children, as it is basically driving through a massive cemetery.
Run well, very friendly staff. It's a huge park and we needed all day. Download a driving tour on an app for $10 or less and take your time. So much to see.
Absolutely mind-blowing experience. I highly recommend you make the effort to see the cyclorama and then actually walk Pickett's Charge. Unimaginable to me that Soldiers could be ordered across that unforgiving land. The bravery exhibited by the rebels as well as the Union Soldiers cannot be understated. Simply amazing experience.
