Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center reviews
16Lots to see. We saw the film, diorama & museum. Long walk from our b&b, but it was worth it. Good time all around. Will be back in November.
Anyone interested in US history should visit if they have not already. The area just oozes history, and is truly hallowed ground.
Beautiful facility, the rangers were very friendly and helpful. We picked up the battlefield map and did the audio tour. If you can’t make it in person, the “audio” tour are videos so you can see the sights.
Ask for Chuck to guide you through the battlefield. He's one of the best in the force.
Great place to learn about the Gettysburg battle. The museum focuses on the Gettysburg battle with information leading up to and the aftermath of the battle.
Knowledgeable staff were able to answer any and all questions that we had. Facilities and exhibits were clean and well maintained.
Very well marked and organized place! The battle took place over three days in three locations, so there is a LOT to see. Devil's Den was our favorite because there a huge boulders to climb on. Stop at an encampment and talk to the people: they are very interesting and knowledgeable!
Good ghost hunting! Check out Ghost Link Paranormal on YouTube for videos of Gettysburg ghosts caught on our trip! It’s beautiful there and the museum is full of awesome artifacts. Worth the trip
The merchandise in the store (post cards, ornaments pins) were priced 3x's higher than the Heritage Center at 297 Steinwehr St. I paid $30 for the same ornament that was $10 at the Heritage Center. I had bought 6 ornaments for gifts, wish I had gone to the Heritage Center first!
We did the tour where the guide drives your vehicle around and explains literally everything. We took our dad here for Father’s Day. It was an awesome experience and a great gift.
Something should be free besides the gift shop. We took the tour and it was very interesting but it was discouraging that everything was costly. Couldn't the museum be free? Or the movie?
Great experience, glad we got to visit. Everything you would want to know about the Gettysburg battle is right here
It's Gettysburg, don't know what else to say. Take atleast a full day to see the battlefield and visitor center. We were there on the 160th anniversary and it was PACKED. Best way to see it is probably on bike.
Stopped at the visitor's center for a film and cyclorama exhibit. Will be back for an auto tour.
There is no substitute for being able to visit such an important place with so much american history
The Gettysburg National Military Museum and the Battlefields was a great experience. We spent 3 days visiting the sites.
The first day include nearly 5 hours in the museum seeing the film presentation, the Cyclorama, and the wonderful museum. We also visited National Park Service (NPS) programs conducted by Rangers such as the Battle in a Box.
The second day included a fantastic three hour battlefield tour with a certified battlefield guide provided through NPS. The guide drove our car and shared all the many stories. After the battlefield experience we visited the National Soldier's Cemetery and joined a free NPS guided tour. In the evening we returned to the Cemetery to participate and experience the playing of Taps by a volunteer as part of the 100 days of Taps (presented between Memorial Day and Labor Day) and a fantastic presentation and explanation by an NPS Ranger.
This was a great experience overall. We believe spending the time at the museum first provides the necessary knowledge to truly appreciate the battlefields.
