Great Bear Golf Club, East Stroudsburg PA

Have been playing here for 3 consecutive years a couple times a week. We make the drive from Jersey - about 40 minutes. Worth the drive! Course is the best I’ve ever seen it (the recent rain was a big help). Kudos to the staff and grounds crew. Like playing a private course. Just wish some of the players respect the beautiful conditions here. When we play we always try and repair a ball mark or two and fill in a divot or two even if they’re not ours. Please respect the great conditions here. There’s no excuse!

Very friendly staff and regular golfers there to help you out. Narrow tee shots, so have to be good off the tee to play well. Greens were average speed. Fairways and greens were in good shape, but the tee boxes need some more seed. Challenging Par 5s and very fun Par 3s. Very hot day, so disappointed there wasn't water on the course. Make sure to pack plenty of fluids in the summer. I look forward to playing again in the fall on a cooler day.

What a great track! Rolling fairways, challenging greens and pretty par 3’s. Conditions are terrific. Head golf pro Howie was very helpful for our small group, but he needs some help. Had too much to do himself. Clubhouse is showing age and needs some refreshening.

Great course challenging and fun to play, Andrew in club house was very helpful and made our golf round very enjoyable

Great Bear's Country club is a convenient easy-to-find beautiful banquet hall that I had the pleasure of styling and organizing 2 events there. The place is super affordable and I can not wait to plan and coordinate more events here.

Great golf course under new manager and improving even more.the course was in great shape when I played there.

Course greens in great shape and fairways good inspite of almost no rain in May for a charity event last week. Event food was very good. The cart path on #2 and #3 is so bad these holes shouldn' t be played. Had to goto the Dr.for sevier back and leg paine after being knocked around on other cart paths as well. Can't believe they were so bad.

Great course! Fun but challenging. The staff are friendly and made playing here even more enjoyable.

Had my daughter's sweet 16. Everyone loved the place. Great time at Great Bear Golf Club. Would definitely recommend this place to family and friends.

I played with some buddies two weeks ago for a casual weekend tournament and the course was in absolutely horrendous shape. It looked like someone took a baseball bat to the tee boxes, fairways, AND greens.

On top of that, they messed up our reservation, squeezed in a 5some on the course, and after 4 holes we were tracking towards a 7 1/2 hr round. When I called the pro shop, they were apologetic but surprised to hear it was so slow. They ended up moving the group in front of us several times, but said they could only do so much today because they only had 2 people on staff. Really disappointing for a Jack Nicklaus course. We will never play here again.

The course was beautiful and in great shape, HOWEVER from the minute we arrived it was a bad experience. We arrive at 12: 30 for a 1: 20 and 1: 30 tee time. The minute we check it we get told "we are sending people out early". We walk to the putting green and keep getting told to go to hole 1 and chip and putt there. We felt pressured to skip the driving range. We get to hole 1 and there is a group teeing off. It becomes our turn and its 1o'clock. The round was over at 6: 30. The pace was insanely slow. It really ruined the day. It made no sense to rush people to the tee box so that they could wait all day behind the group of 48 that started at 10am.

I was with Sean who reviewed this below, I don't even need to leave I review I just feel the need to reply to the response he received on here. We were absolutely told that we had to go off and we're going early, nobody told us hey if you want to wait until your tee time you can, it was " we are packed today, and go to the tee box" we literally had a group on the tee box behind us immediately, it made ZERO sense.it was ridiculous, and a member of our group called the club house and reported the slow play, not a thing was done.so I am not sure what the general manager is going to do about it.

This course features a fantastic design: easy enough for the casual golfer yet challenging from the back tees. Wide fairways, but be careful in your approach shots to the well protected greens.
Outstanding maintenance and large greens that contain hidden breaks but run true.
A well stocked pro shop, a decent restaurant and a knowledgeable and friendly pro staff make this a must for any golfer visiting the Poconos.

Beautiful golf course. The course wasn’t too hard but the greens played fast when I played. On a Monday morning it was only $39 to play a round.

Course layout is awesome one of my favorite in the area however maintenance doesn’t seem up to par this year hopefully they turn it around or I won’t be back as much for 95$ maintenance deserves to be better the last two times I’ve played bunkers are horrendous and rough uneven and spotty greens and fairways in great shape though

Quite place, Excellent course in Great Shape!
However, Rangers or lack there of! Should monitor pace of play,
allow twosome's to play through etc.

It might have been a wonderful golf course in it’s “heyday’s” but I was not impressed when I was there in early May at a time of the year when most courses are looking their best. With proper upkeep and some needed upgrades this can be a nice course again.

I've been playing G. Bear for the past 2.5 yrs, we typically play 8-10 rounds here every year and had great experience. Our three some played in May and were horrified to the green condition.so many unfixed divot marks! The Greens used to be really nice here.not anymore. What's the sense of getting 14 GIR's when u get up there to find Greens that remind u of the Moon. I REALLY hope that they will be able to get the Greens back to what it used to be. We drive well over an hour but now we might have to think twice now

One of the best courses in the Poconos. New management is breathing life into this old gem of a course.

I play there once a year, typically the staff and the course is in great shape. This time, the staff, unbelievably rude. Continued to talk loudly and use their equipment while we were on the green. My round was in September, i waited a few weeks to make this post so i wouldnt be completely enraged, my 1 star went to 3 due to my previous experience there.
