Han Dynasty - Old City, Philadelphia PA

The food was delicious. This is Szechuan kitchen, and they have all dishes marked with spiceness level, one to ten, but each dish can be adjusted. The restaurant is located in the old, historic building and the interior is impressive.

This place is consistently delicious and Mark, one of the owners we met, is a really kind human. These guys work hard all around to provide an amazing experience and it shows! Thank you so much.

The food was very pricey I felt for the serving sizes. Dropped a hundred bucks on lunch for two here and am slightly unsure for what.

Their beverage machine was down. The waiter had informed us of this after we had complained about the two flat/lifeless beverages he'd brought us. One of which was nothing more than flat seltzer water.

The bill was never presented for me to review, as it is all done via touch screen and the waiter had slyly navigated to the tip/signature screen prior to displaying to the table.

All in all there are much better places in the city to blow a hundred bucks on lunch for two.

The food wasn't awful, but it certainly wasn't worth what we paid.

I have to start with the fact that the food is good. Everything I ordered, I enjoyed. The problem was with the service. First, the sign outside and the website said the Han Dynasty opened at 11: 30. I went in and I was told it opened at 12: 00. I waited in my car for 30 minutes. I returned, got a table and put in an order. I got my appetizer reasonably quickly, but I also got a mistaken order, which I sent back. An hour passes and several customers have come, eaten a full meal, and left. I was asked if I had ordered an additional two dishes that I had not. I clarified my order on the third mistake an hour and ten minutes in. A higher-level staff member came and talked to me and said he would "make it right" and that the errors had to do with some kind of computer glitch. I may have misunderstood, but I thought he was going to comp at least one dish. My correct order came out after 90 minutes of waiting. After I had finished my meal they actually brought me another incorrect order, which again I sent back. The whole meal took over two hours (almost three including the initial wait), most of which I spent hungry. I got the bill and nothing at all was listed, just a total amount. I did the math from an online menu and nothing was comped. I tipped 20% because I don't think it was the server's fault, but the entire experience left me angry.

Spicy beef Dan Dan noodle soup was great, Tiger brand bottled beer poured in a glass was nice and full-bodied, complimented and cut the spice of the noodle soup down just nicely.

Ben is a nice manager, just a bit quirky as an individual and a little pompous (which is common amongst food industry management).

The manager and some of the front of house staff made this a 3-Star Review, otherwise a 5-Star if only the food and interior design is taken into account.

The interior of this antique building is absolutely beautiful! Very cozy atmosphere, which makes it perfect for romantic dates. Enjoyed every bite and sip!

Such a great experience! We saw this restaurant featured on one of Anthony Bourdain's shows and we had to try it! The dumpings in chili oil we fantastic! We wanted to by the chili oil to use at home! The fried rice was DELICIOUS! We ordered the DanDan noodles but we were underwhelmed.not spicy at all. Overall, great experience and great food.

Thus place was GREAT! The building is beautiful, the bartender was suuuuuper knowledgeable about the drinks and the menu, and the food was fantastic. We live an hour away and already have a feeling we'll head back up for some dumplings in chili oil!

Can't recommend this place enough. I first came here years ago while visiting Philadelphia from Denver. Every time I have come back this is a must go place. The food is unreal. Never had a bad meal here. The staff is always awesome and they keep the place very clean. Now that I moved here to Philly I'll be back all the time. This restaurant may be the reason I moved here

The food was just ok the chilly oil dumplings needed more filling the Dan Dan noodles was a little mushy but good flavor. Service was good

Best Chinese food around the area. Their Dan Dan noodles are the best. I come from Maryland to eat food here. Old city location is good.

Fantastic building, amazing food, and wonderful service! I normally like spicy but my partner prefers less spicy so we got everything under a 4/10 and it still had a nice kick. Especially the dishes that have peppercorns haha

Person on phone when I placed order was very rude. Ordered veggie stir fry with tofu and all I got was tofu. Veggie lomein had nearly no noodles. Poor food.

Hands down some of the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. Highly recommend. I wish I had discovered this earlier when we moved to Philly but this will be a regular visit for me.

Service was great and very quick.

Fried rice was so amazing. Dumplings were spectacular. The Dry Pepper Style chicken was so good. I had the temperature slightly reduced because I don’t like overly spicy food and it was fanatic.

Can’t wait to come back.

Love their food. They serve wonderfully flavored dishes. The food is fresh & flavorful. Different dishes have different levels of hotness. But so far they are all fabulous. Would recommend the bok choy (really good). Food is an A+. Service was also great. They took good care of us. And the downtown location is a grand location. If they worked on cleaning it up and restoring it would be a really cool place.

ABSOLUTELY the best Szechuan I’ve ever had! Reasonably priced. Great customer service. And, my respect to Han himself for working diligently alongside his staff to set our table.

Awesome, spicy food, if you like, will alter heat level to whatever you want. Lost a star due to the beer menu taking a hit, less selection, and I guess the a/c is out, thankfully it was not that hot. Service was great as always.

Food was incredible and the atmosphere unique. I like how they provide a spice-level index on their food, which can be customized. Definitely will return!
