Both of my parents, who achieved the milestone of 72 years of marriage, have been patients at Helen M Simpson Rehab several times over the past 5 years. They have always received what I would say is top quality care which enabled them to achieve the highest function possible and keep them from being admitted to a skilled nursing home facility.
The therapy staff are highly clinically skilled, compassionate and kind. There were times I had some doubt if my parents would get home but through the team’s efforts at Helen M Simpson Rehab they were returned home and able to stay together.
They could fondly name the nurses and Dr.who took care of them and the case manager that worked to get them back home with any equipment they needed.
I would not hesitate to recommend to a patent or the family to push the acute hospital staff and your insurance company to have your loved one accepted to Helen M Simpson Rehab. It’s their best opportunity and chance to get back home!

I recently had a 12 days stay here for an injury to femoral nerve during a spinal fusion. I regained all feeling in my right leg which was the bad one but lost all feeling in my left. I was so grateful for all the care I got from all of the staff doctors, nurses, aides. Everyone just took care of me the best way possible, made me laugh and keep my spirits up. HUGE thank you to my OT Julie, my PTs Joel and Allison who just pushed hard me every day to get me ready to come home. Still a very long road ahead of me but got me prepared for what home life would be. Beyond grateful!

Father has a significant health history. Only communication with a doctor was a phone call on the 9th day of a 12 day stay. Father was leaving rehab at 5p specifically to get one last day of OT & PT which normally took place between 7: 15a-2: 30p. They canceled all rehab on final day.

This is the absolutely best rehab for anyone! The staff is amazing, couldn’t ask for better. When I arrived, I had been in the hospital for 5 mts, dealing with sepsis &. C-diff & meanwhile lost my ability to walk.
The staff let me know it was an intense approach to therapy by getting 3 hrs of pt/ot 6 days a week! I had almost given up the idea of walking again, but they got me up, pushed me, encouraged me & calmed me down! My pt was Tucker & ot was Ellie, they are an AMAZING duo! I had other pt/ot’s as well who were just as much amazing. This group of people love their jobs & it shows. Such caring & understanding people!
I truly thank you, Tucker & Ellie & all the other staff for giving me the courage to face each day with a positive attitude! LOVE YOU ALL & MISS YOU TOO!

Many foot/wound/podiatrists wanted me to go to UPMC ER, be admitted, IV antibiotics, podiatrist to be scheduled for urgent right 4th toe amputation. After 6 hrs, midnight, in wheelchair waiting room, severe, intense pain from neck to toes, entire skeletal damage, surgeries, I called Dr. Hoto ofc on call podiatrist, they called podiatrist to come to ER, never showed up, taken to rehab floor T 4: 00 AM, told by PA that I’m not getting amputation, those other Drs just want to cut, cut, cut. Told I’d be starting physical therapy in few hours along with other needed therapies. On ward, at 4: 00 AM, nonstop older patients yelling n moaning out loud, joked sounds like psych ward. They need meds to sleep this hour. Nurse verified my stats, said she needed to search my open toiletries n clothes, book, candy, etc and lock up for both me n other patients safety. It was open bag, but said I’d gladly show or tell her my few items but moving bag far away from me to search was weird, unnecessary, n no. She immediately called someone n said I refuse to let her search my things n lock up for my own safety. She entered n locked my door, n I began feeling uncomfortable, outnumbered, n even more suspicious by all said so far. No podiatrist, no amputation, everyone was called a provider, just first name n last initial. No Drs, podiatrist, etc, Don’t keep wheelchairs on floor for patients safety, starting physical therapy, n my chart phone app said I was being treated for 5 conditions, that I don’t have, incl high blood pressure disorder, psychotic mental state with negative thoughts of hurting myself, acid reflux, plus 2 other things. I was very sick from toe/foot/leg, very cold, exhausted, hungry, severe pain, but chart all said didn’t have those problems. Finally, young phlebotomist came in to draw blood, I said this is psych floor, she said yes n elderly patients from homes that can’t care for themselves. Then 2 females with gloves, locked door and began body searching me as if hiding something on/in body. That was final, I was completely humiliated, embarrassed, violated. I called my son about 6: 00 AM extremely upset n he was coming to get me. They refused to remove IV, another aid tried forcing me to get gown on n take my clothes, n I asked everyone for wheelchair cause son coming to get me. They refused, stating my son isn’t coming, got him on speaker, he was very upset n yelled he is getting me n nobody is Fing stopping him. They then blocked me from my UPMC CELL APP, removed all psych references, psych conditions, physical therapy, high blood pressure, etc. Said my primary care doctor gave them all that info, but she didn’t know I was there, and doesn’t come to that hospital. By time I got outside in wheelchair, my son arrived, grabbed my bag then me from wheelchair, making sure the female provider knew he was angry n all getting reported to outside medical licensing board, Atty, my Drs, and public. When I got home by 8: 00, called nurse from my PCP office, and by afternoon, my nurseJaimie called, she n PCP wanted me in Hershey hospital ASAP cause toe is very serious n needs amputated. Said she read all hospital info cause they sent it to PCP & JAIMIE. I accessed chart app on my cell, was unblocked, all psych affiliated info removed, not a word about anything other than I needed consult to see “if toe needs amputated “, 6 foot specialists n my PCP office n myself knew n my family that toe needs removed before sepsis or any blood poisoning cause I can die. Still forgot to add I was freezing cold, severe pain, vomiting a lot, etc. When my son arrived I told female provider, tell him what you did to me, she said a basic skin check for injuries. Never in my life did I need detained in mental facility or have any of those things done to me. I live in my house with my dog n neighbors here every day, my son n family all live off same road, 3 minutes apart. Son mows grass each week, entire family always together. We all love being together, awesome buffet’s of food, the little ones, our dogs, our life is happy. Will never renter UPMC again.

Horrible experience. I came down from California to see my dad, and did not want to go inside the place just because of how uncomfortable the AM nurses made me feel. They were rude, and very judgmental. My DAD wanted to go home so bad because of how uncomfortable the AM nurses made him feel as well. The PM shift treated him well.

This rehab is phenomenal. There is not one person who has treated my husband with disrespect or frustration. Its VERY clean and open. Its very peaceful so that the patient can get the sleep/rest they need. The food is amazing and everyday is filled with smiles and support. This is his third hospital since Dec2021 in a row and this by far exceeds any expectations we could have. We highly recommend this rehab!

My mother was there for about a month, she was treated poorly there. Therapist talked to like she wasn't human. I feel if you can't have compassion for people that are sick then why ate you in the medical field? My mom and I worked in the medical field. Her skin was so dirty when I got her home and gave her a bath. I'm very angry at the people who are being paid to care for her. Her case manager Tammy was having my mom sign papers after hours and did not notify the family. In my face I was made to think on thing and my mother received another. Some of the nursing staff was lazy and no one seemed to know anything. My mother bulked up at them, but that is no reason for her bad treatment.

My mother entered the rehab on Wednesday. The family was told the faculty was number 1 in stroke rehabilitation. My mother speaks highly of her physical therapy but unfortunately feels like a prisoner by the nursing staff. My mother has had to wait for nursing staff to use the restroom causing sitting in soiled undergarments for over 22 minutes. The nursing staff has been rude towards my mother when asking for help. I will be filing a formal compliant, my mother has left side deficits and is struggling to come to terms with the unknown future but is determined to work hard to overcome. I don't want anyone to break her spirit.

My husband spent a week at the Helen Simpson Rehabilitation Hospital. He received outstanding care from each and every staff member. The Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathologists were amazing. He regained many of the skills he had lost in a short amount of time. They were always professional, caring and showed true concern for my husband. The Nursing staff was equally amazing. The provided care which met all of his medical needs in a caring and compassionate manner. The administrative team was wonderful as they helped us navigate the heath care and insurance systems. We would highly recommend this facility to anyone who is in need of rehabilitation services. Thank you for everything your staff did to enhance my husband's recovery!

My wife Judy received physical therapy at Select Physical Therapy, Foxpoint Drive, Columbus, Indiana. She had an excellent experience throughout both pre and post op physical therapy. The staff was very kind and helpful greatly impacting her successful recovery.

My husband who has ALS, was here, and the nurses and aids were wonderful! They were very attentive and very nice. I was really impressed when you hit the "call nurse" button, within a minute they were in your room.
