Hickory Hills Apartments & Townhomes

I scoped this complex out starting in August 2022. I looked at several complexes in the area before settling on Hickory Hills. I was well received by the office management, went on a tour of the complex, several different apartments and was genuinely impressed by the area, the candor and honestly of the management, and the apartments. I picked my apartment in November 2022 and moved in December 30. After 3.5 weeks here I absolutely love it. Maintenance comes to fix things and they are extermely nice and polite. I've had no major problems with anything. And my apartment is extremely quiet all day every day - I work from home. The complex is within 5 to 10 minutes of gyms, groceries, North Park, and 20-30 minutes to downtown for sports. I highly recommend Hickory Hills apartments.

My rent keeps going up, but my apartment fixtures are 30 years old.most neighbors are quiet, roads are kept clear during snowfall, and maintenance is pretty good about getting things done.unjustified price hikes are getting absurd though.my rent went up 10% for 2023

Why so many negative reviews? We loved living here. We rented a 2br apartment for 1 year. Yes the kitchen was old, but very well kept with plenty of counter space, open space concept also. The bathroom was basic but very functional. The maintenance team responded quickly, and the leasing office staffs were very kind. The whole neighborhood was well kept, very homy feeling. We have no complaints.

Very thin walls, moldy smell in hallways. Our front entrance door slams so loud you can hear everyone who enters the building. The laundry room washer breaks down at least once a month. They are re-piping the units even if you live in them. The company they hired to re-pipe enters your unit with their own key without asking your permission to enter your unit. I was sleep and they just barged in without my consent.

It could be worse, but it’s definitely not my first pick after living here. When we first moved in, we immediately had to get maintenance to fix some issues that shouldn’t have been there when we moved in to begin with. The cheap fixes they made didn’t last long, either.

On a separate occasion mid-summer, the third party maintenance crew had messed up numerous times with our A/C unit until someone came in and was able to tell us that they kept installing it incorrectly and burning out the fuses.

Neighbors were okay for the most part, but the complex always reeked of marijuana. The trash compactor is also always either broken or cluttered with garbage from uncaring residents. The walls are paper thin and you can hear every conversation from your neighbors.

The front desk was extremely kind and helpful for most of our residency, but they didn’t bother to fix a major pricing issue they had made with us during lockdown. When we brought it up, the person we spoke to had an unnecessary attitude.

Don’t expect any of your security deposit back upon leaving, either. They nickel and dime all of it, even if the issues weren’t caused by you.

Some pros include location and quiet environments in some parts of the complex depending on where you are. Unfortunately, the cons have outweighed the pros a bit too much for us to consider this a good place to live when there’s much better locations nearby.

Me and my family love how quiet it is at hickory hills. Plus there is a lot of wildlife that you get to see and hear like the wild turkeys early in the morning.

We lived here for 2 years and will definitely miss this place! The amenities are lovely, office staff has always been kind and courteous, beautiful and quaint location with everything you need nearby. The apartments are outdated, but comfortable.

We’ve looked at every apartment complex / house in the area, and Hickory Hills was the best deal. We’ll continue recommending it to our friends and family!

I get everyone's situations is different, but we have never had an issue with maintenance or anything else. The office has never been anything but pleasant and helpful whenever we needed anything and also very understanding during COVID hardships. The community is beautiful and I really don't know where else you would go to be in a school district like NA and in a great area near everything for the price of rent here, either. My fiancé and I, along with our cats, have been happy here for the past few years and look forward to more.

If you have the opportunity to rent an apartment elsewhere, do so. I do not recommend renting an apartment in this place. I rented a Townhouse with a gaming room, these are very old houses, everything creaks, an old kitchen. Very often there are various beetles and spiders, ants and all that. During heavy rains, the chimney and balcony doors flow. All cabinets creak, floors creak. If someone wakes up early in the morning, the whole house hears it. Also we didn’t like the management staff we worked with Debbie, she was friendly only before signing the lease, after signing any question I asked her by email, she ignored and only responded after my reminder 2-3 days later. If the management of the company takes this review into account, I advise you to pay attention to the competence of your employees. Also, after the end of the lease of this apartment, incomprehensible bills come that I need to pay for sewage cleaning services $364. Also the management of the company withheld from me $125 for cleaning the carpet. Although my wife personally cleaned the carpet with a washing vacuum cleaner and this carpet was absolutely clean and there were no dirty spots. My advice to you is not to rent an apartment with this company.

My husband and I have lived here for 10yrs. We are very happy here, it is country living right in the middle of a thriving community. You name it and you can find it all in close proximity to Hickory Hills. The grounds are very well kept and the scenery is very pleasing. In the winter months the roads are cleared as are the landings and steps. The common areas as well as the public areas are very clean and there is always hard work in process to keep them that way. You can always find a peaceful spot to relax taking a walk, sitting by the pool, reading a book in the Clubhouse or out on the beautiful deck. There are community get togethers hosted by Hickory Hills a couple of times a year great food and good times. We the tenants as well as the owners all embrace the welcoming nature of diversity here also. I cannot stress enough the relief it is to my husband and I as senior citizens to be able to call for maintenance and the problem is taken care of in a timely fashion. The staff is very friendly and available on a regular basis. I guess what I'm saying is we are very fortunate that we had the sense to come here 10 yrs.ago and are looking forward to many more years here.

Great location in North Allegheny School District. Love the fitness center and swimming pool areas) Even pretty in the winter.

Horrible place. Do not rent here. Debbie is rude, uninformed and unprofessional. I had multiple unpleasant conversations with her. Other tenants were extremely rude also. Loud, waking me at all hours. No consideration for others. My property was stolen and my vehicle was vandalized. The office people had other tenants call cops on me for legal medicinal Marijuana use. Accused me of causing weed smell. Most times we returned to unit, it reeked of weed. Obviously not me. I left early to lease being completed because of the numerous issues. Horrible experience. I do not recommend!

Debbie needs to get fired. She took an entire month to do application process. Tells me to turn on utilities then the day before says we didn’t get approved!

I’m only giving this 4 stars because we needed to get out of our lease earlier than the 12 months, and the reason we moved into the apartment was we were able to break our lease and only pay an additional one months rent. When we broke our lease, they made us pay TWO months rent. A “term fee”. And it was NEVER mentioned in our lease. So that was extremely frustrating. And during the lockdown, our ac broke and we called maintenance, and no one ever came to fix it for 3 weeks until 1 week exactly prior to us moving out. Aside those two faults, we enjoyed the place a lot. The location was excellent! But the walls are extremely thin and you can hear the people next door and ABOVE was the worst! But the price is right for the square footage!

I lived at Hickory Hills for over 2 years and was very pleased with the complex and community. The leasing staff is very friendly and understanding and the maintenance is always timely. My one suggestion is to find a better solution to the garbage which often overflows. If I did not have to relocate, I would have stayed at Hickory Hills. I highly recommend the property to those looking for a quiet, secluded, and central place to live. Thank you, Hickory Hills for making my time here home.

I’ve called the office twice since moving in to ask a simple question. Being a new resident I wanted to reach out and see if this was a good source of information. Anyway, both times I have received snarky attitude from the office. It’s as if they know it all and expect the Hickory Hills community to know it all as well. I’ll just go ask a neighbor next time instead of being belittled by a bitter office attendant.

Very bad service staff. I lived here for 10 months. My house has been leaking. I complained 5 times. No one helped me with the problem for 6 months and my refrigeration system didn't work. I chose to leave early because of these issues but was fined $ 1000. This is a very bad place, DO NOT LIVE HERE! ! !

These are great apartments in a great area and awesome school district. I hardly ever need any maintenance, but the maintenance and office staff are always friendly and quick to respond to any issues. I have loved my time here and will absolutely recommend it to anyone and everyone! My husband and I are still young-ish and we love how close we are to the city (about a 20 minute, easy drive). We can quickly get downtown to meet friends for a bite or drink. I also love not living directly in the city. Wexford is great for young working professionals. We are close to everything and there is great shopping (Ross Park Mall is just minutes away). In sum:
The neighborhood is one of the most desirable in north Pittsburgh and the school district is top rated.
The maintenance (though hardly needed) is quick and efficient.
The staff is super helpful and always reachable.
Safety is never an issue; the community is in a very safe area.
The grounds are always kept up with and well manicured.
No noise issues (I have great neighbors).
