Hotel Switzerland reviews
17Great location in Jim Thorpe. Limited parking. Room was clean, bathroom was clean, wifi worked. You do need to check in at the bar downstairs. If the bar is closed for the evening you cannot check in. It is a very functional hotel overall
The hotel is certainly quaint but is clean and comfortable for the most part. If you are just needing a bed to sleep in, it will do the job. The mattress in room 4 was awful as it caved in the middle. I am still dealing with some leg pain from how I slept due to the poor mattress. Also there are very high windows above the door causing light streaming in from the hallway at 1 in the morning when some very loud guests arrived and turned the hallway light on. A simple curtain above the door would have been nice. Otherwise, the location is great and check in process was a breeze.
I hate leaving bad reviews, but when the problems are so easily solvable, I feel I have no choice.
So let’s start with one positive.
The a location. It’s very conveniently located for the trails, rails, and walking up the Main Street.
If you like to sleep close to your partner then you are in luck because the bed is so warped we were rolling into the middle of the bed all night. Our feet were also lifted due to the way the bed caved in in the middle.
There are glass windows above the doors, so when people come in late at night your room lights up from the outside hall light. You would think that the hotel would have put a curtain there or painted over the glass.
Finally, the pillows are old and gross and the covers used didn’t cover the entire pillow. There was an inch of the pillow hanging out of the ends… so when you sleep with it by the time the night is over, you are basically sleeping on a nasty and stained uncovered pillow.
The check in process was chaotic. You have to go into the bar, flag down a bartender and then grab your key. Besides that, our stay was okay. The suite is huge. There are 3 beds in it. Wish I would have known and we wouldn’t have gotten a second room for guests. It was clean, but nothing fancy. You could hear the bar guests from the bedroom and drunk bystanders leaving the bar at night.
Fantastic! Very Clean! Absolute perfect location in the very heart of Jim Thorpe. Easy walk to our Show at the Mauch Chunk Opera House, also! And Molly Maguire's Irish Pub has a Great menu. Their Burgers and Shepherd's Pie were Excellent! The Behan Family are the perfect hosts, and have been for decades in Jim Thorpe! Wouldn't stay any where but The Hotel Switzerland! Fantastic!
Quaint place, enjoyed it much on my birthday Staff were friendly. Always enjoy visiting Jim Thorpe. Beautiful area, hiking, biking, nice shops and great food.
Historic, yet clean and comfortable rooms. Room 2 is
quaint and the suite (room 4) is spacious and set up well. Definitely would stay here again
Clean, quaint, nicely appointed room. TV, coffee, ac, ceiling fan. Room #2. I ensured we had a private bath. Some rooms do not. Great location. I would definitely recommend.
SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY. We stayed here twice. It is convenient to the trail. The rooms are small and quaint. But our room had an electric cord running from the bathroom to the air conditioner. The cord ran between the door and the molding around the door. So you had the potential for a short circuit or a fire caused by closing the bathroom door. I can’t believe this is up to code. I am not sure the smoke detector was hard wired and working
Cute and unique. The suite has two full bathrooms, a fantastic feature, as long as you don't mind no elevator.
Check In:
As fast as ti could be. Just walk in the bar on the ground level and check in.
Location:
The Hotel Is in the heart of the town, next to everything you will do. Same building with mountain biking tours, rentals, rafting tours. Cross the street from the Scenic rail and huge parking lot.
Building:
Old building with nice bar at the ground lever. Outside seating too.
Shared but big and clean restrooms. Tiny but high ceilings rooms.
Need some improvement that can be done for cheap by a handy man (nothing major).
The Room:
- Tiny But high ceiling and has everything you need
- NEED MIRROR - no mirror - bad idea
- Need small improvements, like door doesn't close good, new locks - some handy man work, nothing major or expensive to do.
My girlfriend and I stayed here for a night on our way to Woodstock NY. There is no official check-in/out area. The bartender in the restaurant below the hotel gives you the keys to the room. Our room had a shared bathroom with the other guest rooms on that floor, but the room itself was small but no uncomfortable for 2 people. Decent TV and A/C unit. Super tall ceilings which made it feel much more spacious. Wifi was a bit hit or miss, but we didn't care since we were only there for 1 night. Definitely an interesting place to stay right in downtown Jim Thorpe close to several restaurants, Lehigh River, and the Rail Trail!
Absolutely great location and great atmosphere. The room was charming, clean, and bed was super comfy. The deck downstairs is a great place to hang out and have some cocktails and a bite to eat.
Nothing fancy, but the room was clean and comfortable, albeit a bit small. A decently priced alternative to some of the pricier B and Bs in town.
Molly McGuires restaurant downstairs was terrible. Felt rushed rude waitress and manager was a douche.
Not a bad place, what you'd expect for the price, which was the best i could find for 1 person. Like many places, some of the staff were friendly, and one having a bad day i guess. Not much parking in town - Hotel Switzerland was right across from the biggest parking lot in the area. Very close to the rail station, also. Came again, and everyone was very pleasant, had a blast, even loaned me their phone charger right out of their purse!
Cool place, great location, very clean. A little odd that you never see hotel staff. Book online (and pay ahead of the stay) and get keys from the bartender. It's above the bar, but the AC window unit drowned out any late nite noise.
