The team at J. Stephens is effective, kind, and welcoming. The services are catered to me and have been for a number of years. Jess always finds time for my appointments and Sarah does a stellar job on my color and cuts. There is not enough charaters in my review to express my appreication for the team.

I wanted updated style, easy to manage. First time my adult life someone (joe) listened to want i wanted i am quite happy!

I moved to State College four years ago, and the first person I met here was Chelsea. She was, and is, the sweetest, friendliest, and most professional person you could have representing your business. She put me in touch with Camrie, Brittany and all the other highly skilled professionals that make you look forward to every visit. You not only leave J Stephens looking great, you feel great having spent time with this amazing team.

I love all my service providers at J Stephens. Brittany and Ellie do amazing manicure and pedicures. I highly recommend any of the nail care providers. I have facials with Marilene that are amazing. My hair cuts by Chelsey are the best I have ever had. I highly recommended this salon.

We worked with J. Stephens for a wedding at Raystown lake at the beginning of June. The bride + bridal party's hair and makeup lasted until evening. They were easy to work with - upon arrival they were quick to set up and when leaving they cleaned up their space and left it as they found it. Would recommend again to use for our brides!

I’ve been getting my hair done here for two years, and I love this salon! The environment is amazing and everyone is so nice! It does take a while to get booked as new customer, but after that it gets super easy with very reasonable waiting time. My stylist Ashley is very skillful and patient. I love how she does not make small talk if you don’t feel like it and happy to chat if you are in the mood.
A little note, personally I don’t think their price differences among the stylists are depending on the their skills. I’ve tried a more pricey stylist before Ashley, and to me, Ashley does a much better job.

J Stephens is a lovely salon. Everything is fancy and professional. Chelsea is my favorite hairstylist! She does such a great job with my fine hair for cut and color. She works with my preferences and makes the experience collaborative and fun!

Great friendly staff at reception and always help to accommodate my schedule if things change. The services and supplies all feel high quality, definitely recommend for your salon and spa needs!

Sarah is the BEST hairstylist in State College! I've been going to her for over a decade and she is always so accommodating, amazing to talk to, and does wonders with my hair.

Especially if you have blonde locks - you will love her color skills.

I have had two bad experiences with this salon and cannot in good conscience recommend their services to anyone.

The first time I went to this salon, I had made an appointment for a curly hair consultation. When I arrived, I was told to wait in the spa across the salon because their waiting area was full. I waited there for about 1 hour until someone brought me back to the hairstylists’ station. I then waited another 20 minutes in the chair and was still not seen. I eventually walked out because I had waited an hour and a half for nothing.

Recently, I needed my hair to be fixed last minute and had a deadline for this to be done. I had reached out to other salons to see if anyone could do it, which they all declined. This is understandable, as my situation was last minute. I reached out to this salon as well, and was at first reached out to saying they would get back to me. I had to follow up on their email 4 days later to get another answer from them. It’s been another 4 days since this last correspondence, and I haven’t heard from them. This would have been fine if they had declined me getting my hair done there, as other salons did. But instead, I am left waiting again, and will now have to live out my bad hair situation until my regular appointment with my normal salon.

It seems like there are either some management issues, technology issues, or something else that I’ve had the bad luck of encountering twice. I hope that these issues can be fixed so that other customers don’t receive the treatment I have had while at this salon.
