Hawaiian Restaurant Kahuna reviews
18 Made my own bowl with my favorite toppings. Great flavors in the sauce, and tuna and other ingredients were fresh. I have to say the food is great value to the price. However, I do with the base was a little more. Whether its rice or zucchini noodles (I chose zucchini noodles) I was there was more to balance out the abundance of sauce. Next time I would get the white rice, which I think will go well with the ponzu sauce.
Otherwise, I would come back again for some more.
White rice not cooked thoroughly. Salmon portion was relatively small even though I ordered large. If this were reasonably priced, the portion would not be an issue but it turned out to be quite pricey. I ordered kimchi salmon. I didn’t taste any “kimchi” about it. Not recommending this place.
It was our first time at Kahuna.
Based on the area, you'll need to find parking either on the street or a parking garage.
We spent roughly 45$ for 2 - $15 bowls with rice and then 2 'kids bowls' with rice, and 'veg' (we chose edamame and cucumber for each child based on their preferences and the employee helped us choose a topping for the kids bowls, advising what was spicy or enjoyed typically by other kids.
There was no standard chicken or beef option, which does limit who I would be able to bring here based on pickiness. Overall I was very pleased, and the raw salmon in my bowl seemed high quality and was delicious.
Food was amazing! We stop by here while visiting Pittsburgh. It was (almost) as good as my favorite place back home. Ingredients were fresh and the employees were friendly and knowledgeable about dietary needs.
A bit pricier for a poke bowl ($16-$18) than I'm accustomed to in many cities, but a huge amount of protein. Based on other reviews, it may be a better business strategy to reduce quantities and charge $12-$14
Food was fresh and delicious. Nice option if your looking for something light and healthy. Plenty of options. Definitely going back.
We ordered three bowls, and they forgot to include one of them in our order. We went back and got it, but the food is quite salty. We were not able to eat the Kahuna Classic bowls as they were just too salty. The difference between the large and regular bowls were also insignificant to cost more money.
The employees are nice, which saves this place from a one star review. But the food is just not good.
I really do enjoy the food at this place, and we used to come here about once per week. However they recently raised the price for a regular poke bowl from about $11 to $16- I know that inflation is extreme this year, but it's not 50%. It really bumped this place from a casual/lunch/weekday spot to a rare visit spot for us
Their staff were very friendly and the food was incredible! Spicy Tuna and Ponzu Salmon are highly recommended!
Edit: They recently hiked their prices over THIRTY FIVE PERCENT. If I’m paying this much I may as well go to a sit down restaurant. They lost a regular in me. I know inflation is hitting everyone, but that’s an absurd hike in price.
I love this place for a quick healthy lunch. I work from home a lot and live across the street so it’s a go-to. I have never received bad service. (People need to be more patient with people working in the food industry - it’s not an easy job - but I digress). My only complaint is that sometimes the fish is inconsistent. Most of the time it is fresh and really delicious, but every once in awhile it’s less fresh and I’ve had to throw a bowl out before because the fish tasted too weird.
Good poke place in East Liberty with lots of topping choices. Personally, I order sauce in the side so i can control how much is added, just fyi.
The Tuna and salmon are very fresh!
I was a sushi chef when I lived in japan and I do Pay lots of attention to the freshness of fish, and this place is very FRESH! AAA+
My hubby and I went here for lunch. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The only reason I gave it a 4 star instead of 5 is because, the indoor venue is small so it's best if you're going alone or as a couple. There are no tables that would comfortably seat 3 or more. Also, there were no options for cooked meat/fish in your poke if you wanted that. I love sushi so I was all about it, but my husband isn't a sushi person so he would have appreciated the option to cook the salmon or have grilled spam or something like that.
Great customer service & price for what you get. Huge portions. Everything was very fresh and the bowls are made in front of you. I got the poke bowl and it was delicious.
Last poke joint in the city worth going to. Atarashi went straight down hill. Kahuna is never bad. Look through the bad reviews. They're all about flies and gnats outside of a place that serves a ton of fish lol. Best poke in the city, and it's not even close
UPDATE: Still the best poke in the city and it's not even close.
There is no management here, so if your order is messed up, too bad. Leave a message, don’t get a call back. Leave a tip, slap in the face. Confusing experience. They use paper bags, so when your food drips out, your food falls through the paper. Thanks guys!
Saved my life from almost certain ruin on a dreary Pittsburgh January Sunday! Thanks for serving healthy food!
As much as I want to like this place, the interior AND outside seating were covered in gnats! The employees were nice, but I'm hesitant to go back with such an obvious bug problem.
