Kimchi Korean Restaurant reviews
17 Staff is very nice, service is pretty fast, terrific portions, great parking lot, and now they serve lunch again. Only real downside is a while back,
they came to your table mid meal and asked if you wanted extra sides, (banchan) including fish cake and spicy cucumbers. They don’t do that anymore and I’m not sure it would be appropriate to say can I get more fish cakes and spicy cucumbers? If they do still offer those, maybe mention it to customers? Also new is there appetizers they bring to the table. Absolutely delicious! Their Bulgogi and their l.a. Galbi are awesome!
Best dolsot bibimbap I've ever had. My dining companion was from Korea and also loved it.
The food here is pretty good. My friends and I really enjoyed what we ordered and would certainly consider Kimchi again for the food alone. My 2 star review comes from our wait time for service. We were seated immediately after we came in, but had to wait 35 minutes before a server came to take our orders. The server took our drink orders at the same time as the food, which left us at the table for about 40 minutes total without drinks. There was even another table that was seated after we were. Their orders were taken 5 minutes after they sat down.
I would like to give Kimchi the benefit of the doubt, and this scenario was just a one-off ordeal, but at this time I find my overall experience was poor due to the service issue.
I've never been to a Korean restaurant, I loved my first time. I loved the decor, real plants. We ordered a pot of green tea which was delicious and loved the little cups. I wish we could have added tofu to our dishes but it seemed they couldn't due to the way they put the order in. I'd love to go back and order something different to try. Very friendly and welcoming place.
Takes forever to get your food even there were only two tables. Food was ok. It would be so nice if there were other Korean restaurants here. Wouldn’t recommend here.
This place is excellent with delicious dishes and friendly staff. They were busy when we came on a Friday night so expect a modest wait for service. The included appetizers, including Kimchi, were sumptuous and following portions substantial. With an appetizer and two entrée, we had enough for a second meal that weekend!
Loved this place! The food was amazing and the staff were so professional and friendly! Another customer came in and was acting rudely, but the lady taking care of him remained calm and professional. Can't wait to go back!
Food is decent.
However, the waiter really did not show respect to customers. I will use “they” to refer to that person. They did not continue refilling water. Especially, we hadn’t finished eating but they came over to ask us to pay. Really unprofessional.
Recently moved to Altoona and was sad there isn’t a Korean restaurant there. Came to State College and found this place! Friendly service, great food! Ordered the Bibimbap with bulgogi & Tteok-Bokki. Hubby had the Bulgogi. We’ll definitely come back. Totally worth the drive time! Thanks so much!
Delicious authentic food and atmosphere. The staff was extremely friendly and courteous. I will definitely to be returning to this restaurant!
A very slow serving pace. The serving of drinks and water took a very lengthy time. The meal tastes okay, but the overall experience is pretty awful.
The restaurant was closed for a few weeks/ months? Now that it reopened it seems the management and chef and waitstaff have changed. The food is AWFUL. Dishes/cups were dirty and the stews were watered down and bland. Just really an awful decrease in quality. Won't be coming back.
Delicious and authentic food kind staff and calm atmosphere great spot to chill deffenantly gonna come back
Great food and staff.lots of vegetarian options! Very clean and accommodating! Delicious food. This restaurant, like many in State College, closes for most student breaks, which is why I'm giving it three stars instead of four. Permanent residents need food options, too.
Food tastes really good and for a good price. Lovely booths and a good place for socializing with someone over a meal.
My husband is Korean and my mother in law cooks some amazing Korean dishes, so this is a somewhat biased review. We often try different Korean restaurants in new places as it is some of our favorite food.
The wait staff was great, however, the food wasn’t our favorite and is a bit on the expensive side. The menu is kind of limited, especially when trying to choose meat-less dishes. I chose Kimchi soup, and while it was okay, it was a little disappointing. I believe it was $18.00 and the bowl was just a bit more than half full. Typically at Korean restaurants you’ll get so much food you can’t possibly eat all that’s put in front of you. My husband had beef bulgogi and it looked like steamed meat and had an odd looking texture. Husband said it was just okay.
If you’re somebody who has never had Korean food, you might enjoy trying this place out as something new. Those who eat Korean food often and cook it well at home might find it a bit basic and expensive for what it is.
Tje appetizer (fried noodles) was one of the best items I ever had. Spicy but good. However I was very disappointed with chicken & rice dish. Chicken had mo taste, curry had raw spice taste. I jad to throw half of it away as I couldn't muster courage to down it fully.
