Kim's Martial Arts & Fitness, Freedom PA

I genuinely cannot say enough good things about this place, so this is going to be a lengthy review.

I started about 7 months ago, so admittedly, I don't know a whole lot about Judo yet, but I do know a lot about what it means to be an effective teacher. I've spent years working part time as a tutor in a volunteer and paid professional capacity. In my current job, I frequently need to explain highly technical concepts to colleagues lacking a technical background. In my view, the traits that make for an effective teacher are:

- Knowledge and experience of the material being taught

- Patience

- Kindness

- Good communication abilities

When it comes to teaching Judo, I can safely say that Eugene and both his sons, Tyler and Tanner, have these qualities in spades. They are knowledgeable enough to teach the ins and outs of techniques, while also being experienced enough to identify and correct common issues with those techniques. They are incredibly patient and kind when a student is not understanding a basic concept (usually me), and will take the time to help that student figure things out. Lastly, they are excellent at communicating concepts with words and visually through demonstrations. It is usually pretty rare for me to come across one teacher at an organization that is excellent in all of these categories, let alone three.

As an added bonus, Eugene has fostered an atmosphere of collaborative teamwork in this club. Even excluding the teachers, everyone that comes here is generally very willing to help out their fellow trainees when they are struggling in some area. In particular, the more experienced members openly share their knowledge with the newer, less experienced members. This is a win win for everyone - the more experienced members get to reinforce their knowledge through teaching, and of course the less experienced members benefit greatly from the help.

There's not really any other way to say it - in my opinion, this seems like the perfect environment for learning a martial art, and I'm very glad that I ended up joining. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a better club to join if you're interested in learning Judo

This is where I was introduced to judo, Grandmaster Kim was insightful in his instruction and taught more than just martial arts. KMAF has quality instructors and an excellent curriculum at a great price.

I started training here again in December at the Cranberry school, and after only two weeks I was back in shape again. This school is the best in Pittsburgh- if not state- of Judo and TKD. Master Kim and his sons are always responsive, welcoming, and very kind. I also learned a few Judo throws (white belt) after my first class! If you want a traditional school with legitimate training, this place is for you.

Great atmosphere for learning, family friendly. Best judo place around for anybody.from beginner to expert.serious about learning and practicing judo.

I trained at Kim's Martial Arts judo program for the best part of twenty years. Judo remains a foundation of my life. If you are looking to learn and study the sport of Judo, this is the school where you want to be.without a doubt! You will learn Judo the correct way. Great way to stay fit and remain active. Prepare to make life long friendships at this school.

An EXCELLENT martial arts academy. I doubt you would find something even remotely close to this within the Greater Pittsburgh area. Personally, I travel over 30 minutes each way just to attend training session at this school. The instruction, passion, and environment are phenomenal and the school truly embodies humility and respect. A great group of people all around.

I started training judo under Master Kim more than 20yrs ago. I have been to many other schools around the country over the years and the Kims are some of the best instructors I have ever met. I look forward to having my kids train there to get the same lessons I learned, not only with technique, but character and hard work.

Master Kim is a great mentor and I wouldn't train anywhere else because everyone who teaches there is kind hearted and willing to help you

My family started training at Kim’s Martial Arts over 10 years ago. Master Kim and his sons are fantastic instructors with a depth of knowledge you will not find anywhere else. They demonstrate endless patience, encouragement, and enthusiasm at every class. It is amazing to see how much the kids have learned. This is not a school where you will be rushed through promotions to reach a black belt in 2 years. This is a school where you learn that you have to work hard, practice patience, and really earn each belt. These experiences have been invaluable to my children. The Kim’s are among the kindest people I know and my kids always enjoy class. I would never go anywhere else.

Master Kim is an amazing teacher and mentor who cares deeply about his students. I have trained with many amazing students and mentors here. I would not train anywhere else but here. Everybody here is kind, caring, and makes you feel welcome. I have learned not just martial arts but also humility and perseverance. An amazing place for anyone to learn martial arts with an awesome teacher who cares for you.

Have been here for over five years. Expect high caliber instruction and an amazing Martial arts family when you join! Couldn't be happier!

Absolutely and undeniably a life changing experience. Master Kim truly cares about his students, no matter what the age or status. He believes the best in each. Growing up, I took Taekwondo and Judo for 13 years with Master Kim, his sons, and his many other admirable leaders and students that he and his father personally taught. He teaches not only Olympic style Martial arts, but life values that stick with you. His classes helped me become more flexible, healthier, stronger, and feel safer through self-defense. It also gave me the opportunity to advance in rank, attend tournaments, and even watch fellow students go to Nationals and the Olympics. Master Kim is a humorous, kind-hearted, and passionate teacher. I've been to other martial art training facilities and this one is by far the best. I strongly recommend any person to attend Master Kim's classes. Great for families, young kids, teens, college kids, adults, and even elders. You won't regret it.

When my kids were very young, we took them to a big box martial arts academy. Once I knew my eldest really enjoyed TKD, I took him to Master Kim. I'd trained with him many years ago and I knew he combines a great mix of traditional and modern martial arts. He helped my son become a very good martial artist, but more importantly, he played no small part in helping him become a great man.

This is a GREAT school and Eugene Kim and his sons are GREAT teachers, for both kids and adults. My children and I were students here for over 2 years. I only left because I had to move for a job, and I still miss it. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
