Marblehead Chowder House reviews
16Very good casual seafood place. Some very fresh items and many frozen. Preparations are classical. Overall, it was a very good place
Fried scallops were fresh and succulent, perfectly fried - though to my taste they were (slightly) over-breaded. The accompanying vegetable medley was enjoyable. Asaparagus was a little overcooked, though acceptable. Seasoning was appropriate to each dish, not overstated as in some seafood houses.
From beginning to end service was excellent. Hostesses were welcoming, efficient and seamlessly accompanied us to our table. They are the first impression the guest encounters, and my point of view is that many restaurants overlook the importance of this. Our server Sharon was personable and professional, attentive without being overbearing. She is an asset to the staff in all regards. To me this shows the organization's commitment to employee screening and training.
I was disappointed with the raw bar oysters as they were meager (4 of the 6 delivered were very small) and not the plump Blue Points I am accustomed to. Next time I'll opt for the top necks.
My wife enjoyed thoroughly her Chicken Florentine melt, and I tried it as well. Excellent. Our other tablemate thought the lobster roll was very good.
Critical to a fresh seafood house and almost as important as preparation is food handling. Marblehead gets high marks for food handling and general cleanliness; otherwise I'd have little confidence in the raw bar.
I have been patronizing Marblehead virtually since it began. However, as I live in Allentown I don't get to visit as often as I might like to.
Day in, day out, Marblehead manages a fine restaurant. In a brutal and fickle industry this restaurant has stood the test of time.
For good reason.
The food was delicious! Service was excellent! If you’re in the area, 10/10 would recommend! You won’t be disappointed!
My favorite restaurant for sea food. I always have a good experience. Excellent food. Lobster risotto balls great appetizer. Love the seared scallops and crab cake dinners.
A good place to get fresh seafood. Their Maine Lobster Roll served here is done absolutely perfect. Also, check out their Lobster Bisque and Crab Pierogies which are excellent as well.
We had the seafood pasta special and the grilled seafood platter over rice plus 2 appetizers. The fried calamari and top neck clams were excellent. We also enjoyed the pasta but the grilled lobster and the shrimp were so salty. The chef must of pour the salt on top of it. We must of drank 4 bottles of water. We'll definitely order something else next time we visit Easton.
This restaurant seems to be hit or miss. We were there July 21 and the meal was wonderful. We came back on July 28 and my husband got a rubber band from a lobster claw in his French onion soup which made it inedible. We were back again mid August and the meal was great. We were there September 17 and my husband, and I both got the meal with shrimp, scallops, and a 5 ounce lobster tail, and it was impossible to get the lobster meat out of the shell. It was over cooked and dry. They offered to comp a dessert. I don’t feel like a dessert equals the lobster that we missed out on
Great service. Good food. Nice atmosphere. We had fried scallops and crab stuffed shrimp. We also had cream of crab soup and lobster bisque. All delicious and served by Tara, a very attentive and friendly server/waitress. I highly recommend this place.
Nate was great, as always! $24.95 "Whole Lobster Special" the day after the "Special" ended was as we should've known, and we should've known better. That is on us, but they served the Lobster. Ammonia! Everything else was great!
We really enjoyed our experience at Marblehead! The staff was very friendly and attentive, great atmosphere. The lobster bisque had so much flavor, and the scallops were buttery soft. This was our first visit, and we’re looking forward to coming back with friends and family!
Terrible owners, fired about 100 employees with no warning at their restaurant in NJ (Red Lion Dinner). Then keep trying to lie about it lol. I had family working there so obviously I’m extra angry but… what a terrible thing to do to employees that have worked for over a decade for you. I hope everything you are attached to, fails.
Very good food. Great blackened cod. My dinner companions raved about chowders and the bread pudding.
This time and each time we come the food is always delicious and the staff is excellent! We live in NJ but not too far so we try to get there once a month, absolutely highly recommendable establishment we always look forward to going!
Their crabcakes @ $18.95 (lunch menu) are so small that it's truly not a good value. The salad was very fresh and good. The broccoli came out cold. They sent out a new dish of broccoli that was so hard, I could not cut it. The waitress was lovely and very apologetic.
My family (not me) loves their salmon so they enjoy their salmon meals.

To the owners of Marblehead:
You suggest I ask for my broccoli to be cooked "softer". The broccoli was 1. Cold. 2.2nd attempt the broccoli was so hard that it was difficult to cut. May I add
3. It was tasteless. A butter sauce perhaps with a bit of garlic over hot, properly cooked broccoli would go a long way in serving a tasteful side dish.
Thank you.
The place is beautiful! I love the decor and ambiance!
The service was also 5 start! Our waiter was very attentive, informative and friendly.
We had very high hopes for this place because of the reviews. However, the food was disappointing. The steamed clams were the best part!
We ordered the lobster bisque which was ok. We also ordered the cream of crab which was ridiculously salty. We had to return it and order another lobster bisque. We ordered the salmon oscar which was ok. But the rice that came with it was raw. It was hard.
We also ordered the seared cod and Keywest scallops and shrimp. The rice again, was raw. It was hard. Also, the broccoli had a lot of yellow patches on it. The cod was the worst plate for us. The cod was very fishy. It did not taste fresh. It was very underwhelming. My husband only took a bite. I was under the impression that this place had fresh seafood.
Lastly we had the raspberry chocolate cake. That was good.
Would we recommend it? No.
Very disappointed.
This place has OK atmosphere. The staff is extremely nice but unfortunately this is a watered down version of a red lobster. Our food was greasy and bland. I would not come back or recommend this restaurant.
