Moravian Book Shop reviews
17I miss the charm of the bookstore prior to when it was renovated. I’m a current Moravian student and I’m always disappointed to hear my peers say how nice the bookstore is but they don’t know how much more delightful it was before it became Barnes and Noble-esque. Most Moravian merch is very pricey and there isn’t a discount offered to Moravian students so that’s quite the bummer.
One of our favorite bookstores anywhere. Great selection of books, Moravian stars, gifts and souvenirs (Moravian College).
Delighted to visit this place. Great selection of all sorts of books, university merchandise, decorations and other bits and pieces.
Such a quaint shop with the cutest Christmas stuff and a great book selection! I was able to find a ton of books here, too much actually for my already overflowing shelves at home! Great staff here as well highly recommend!
This is a wonderful bookshop. They have a large selection of books to peruse through. The staff is very friendly, especially Carol. She gave us recommendations for places around the area to visit and remembered us when we came back a few days later.
We went for the Santa Claus event and left with several Christmas presents! Always an enjoyable experience at the shop:)
Not at all like it used to be. Moravian College is trying; just doesn't have the charm of the past.
Went for the Bethlehem ghost tours. It was awesome learning the history of the area and the buildings. Highly recommend. Plenty of stores to shop in and just a very nice time had by all 6 that were in my party
Not only is this an incredible bookstore with a very knowledgeable staff but it’s the oldest continuously operating book store in the county… Possibly the world.
If you want to come here in hopes of feeling like you're stepping back in time, don't. It has the exact same feel as a Barnes and Noble. As a plain bookstore, this place gets 4 stars. As a history stop or for anyone who was intrigued to come by "the oldest bookstore" moniker and/or who were supremely hoping for some really cool old building or relics, this place gets a 0.
There are also, and rather oddly, no used books. We have a very old bookstore in Harrisburg that has an entire section dedicated to rare and antique books, which is kinda what you might expect when you go into the "oldest bookstore in the US. " But alas, all you'll be faced with is a modern bookstore with modern stuff.
The oldest operating Book Store in the US. Worth stopping in to take a look around, especially if you are visiting from out of town. It has decreased in size over the years and isn’t in its prime, at the moment.
This book store is now part of Barnes and Noble bookshops. It no longer has a look and feel of an independent bookshop. The candy counter is gone, so is the cafe counter. The arts and craft section is a thing of the past, and the extensive Christmas ornaments with Bethlehem stars is now reduced to have only some hanging ornaments. In short, it is no longer a charming oldest independent Moravian Book Shop of old. In its place, there are T-shirts, sweatshirts with Moravian college emblems.
You still can find books and many other things to read. After all, it is a Barnes and Noble.
Beautiful local bookstore with character! It was fantastic to meet a local author and hear about the area and learn about his writing. I look forward to my next visit
Place has been there 250 plus years, how amazing is that? Purchased 2 nice books for my two, 20 something year old children. Staff is helpful, meter parking. Clean and well lit
I think it’s great, they have a lot of things besides books, but books are great and some are discounted. Had some addition to my library, very nice.
I have been coming here for the past 16 years and never have I had a bad experience! Love buying books from my local independent book store?
Having visited The Moravian Book Shop for 40 years I was concerned about its being acquired by Moravian University. Obviously most things have changed, except the name. Volumes of hyperwoke drivel juxtaposed with kitsch Christmas ornaments was.odd. But certainly buying one of the oldest bookstores in America is very nice gesture to prevent the death of such a longstanding and historic book shop. They had a large selection of high quality Christmas ornaments and stuff, art supplies, college apparel. The staff was courteous and attentive.
