Dr. Brooke Catanese was so kind, professional, and thorough! This was my first visit with Moshannon Valley Eye Care and Dr. Catanese and I am completely confident that my eye health is in great hands! Thank you!

The optometrist is skilled. I returned for a second correctional visit because the first prescription was too strong for me to function - walking in them made me feel drunk, and gave me headaches. I had glasses made from our first appointment and I see very clearly through them, but they're only ok when I'm driving at night (when my vision is particularly bad and I'm mostly staring straight ahead). Moving my head from side to side makes me feel drunk and discombobulated.

I'm autistic, I have sensory issues. I wasn't trying to be difficult. I do not blame her for the fact that the most "perfect" prescription is too strong for my brain to deal with acceptably. That's on me, not my fault, but on me nonetheless.

What I didn't appreciate, is that she seemed very upset that I explained that it was too strong, and asked her to dial it back to a previous (out of date) prescription so that I could get that glasses that I'd ordered changed to lenses that I could use. She both used a lot of language to me to express that I "chose" the previous prescription (sitting in a stationary position, it's true that I see the prescription that we landed on together more clearly - but it makes me discombobulated and I can't walk a straight line when moving or if I look around.) She was so distressed that I "wanted to see less clearly" that she not only used this language with a diminishing tone to complain to me during our follow up exam, but also to the woman working in Target Optical, from whom I ended up purchasing glasses (the subsequent, dialed back prescription is perfect). The optometrist expressed loudly not to me, but in my presence, a few feet from me, words that essentially added up to my being ridiculous, it was an insubstantial adjustment, and she didn't understand why it was an issue at all. It was all "basically nothing, but whatever. "

I am autistic. I have sensory issues. I get this. I do not blame her for a prescription which is great in a stationary position, but which totally discombobulates me when moving. That's on me.

I did not appreciate her slights and suggestions of ridiculousness or things being in my head, to both myself and another person in my presence. I understand that she felt threatened or something along those lines, but I was not attacking her prescription or skills. I was simply stating my truth based on my own perceptions. Eye exams and glasses are not cheap. You live with glasses. Your perception of them and how you see through them is very important and significantly affects your life. They are important.

My previous optometrist was very understanding of both myself and my daughter (also autistic and hyper sensitive), and adjusted our prescriptions accordingly and understood that it's not terribly uncommon for perfect sight to be just too stressful on the eyes particularly in people who don't wear glasses at home. They shrugged it off and made a note in our charts so that they would know next visit that we weren't comfortable at full prescription.

I will not return because I felt unnecessarily belittled because of my sensory issues, and my expressing them in order to find what is right for me. I am sensitive. I should not be made to feel small because of this. It is unnecessary. I did not attack or belittle the optometrist. She is skilled in what she does. She could learn to be more sensitive to her clients though.

For a neuro-typical, she'd probably be great.

Fast in and out! Unfortunately I was in a time crunch the day of my appointment and Dr. Brooke Sherlock was great as well as the Target staff. I apologize I don’t remember their names currently! Great job!
Thank You, Jason Myers.

I can't stand optometrists that cast shade when you buy your glasses online instead of their super marked-up store. Even with insurance those glasses are way overpriced. My optometrist literally rolled her eyes at my glasses. She kind of scoffed as I described a problem I have with my eyes, and literally blamed the problem on my not having glasses from her store. She was super negative and clearly in a bad mood. This is my second year with this optometrist, and it will be my last.
