New Deck Tavern reviews
16 This restaurant and bar is known to university city. People who go to school nearby and work nearby tend to go here often any day of the week.
I went for happy hour - food and drinks vary by days of the week.
When I say it gets busy here, that means service was longer than usual. I suggest put your drinks and orders in at once because you could be waiting a while!
Went during March Madness at like 8 o'clock so it was packed but service was relatively quick. Food was good! Mixed drinks were decent. They also have a giant Moscow mule for like $75 and I'm like omg I'd try that if we had more people. Targeted to a younger crowd. I'd go here again.
Get the cheesesteak egg rolls, that is my recommendation above anything else here. I could have ate several servings of these and been completely satisfied! Ate here after visiting the Penn Museum and needing something light for lunch, ordered the chicken tenders and egg rolls and a beer, was absolutely perfect and hit the spot. Staff was friendly and made sure to check in regularly. The atmosphere was a little loud, but it is an Irish Pub adjacent to a college campus so don't be surprised by that, and it didn't take anything away from the experience. Decent selection of beer and drinks available and the prices were not too bad. Would definitely go back (if only for more of those egg rolls)!
We only had a light lunch, so I can't speak on the full menu. Loved the cheesesteak egg rolls. Great pub atmosphere. Convenient university city location.
An affordable college pub with good bar food. I've been going here for years and recommend it for anyone.
Good service, great classic rock music in a Irish pub atmosphere. Had a quick early dinner of piping hot Shepard's Pie (very tasty) and cold pints of Smithwicks. Perfect end to a cold, blustery day in Philly. Proof of vaccination to enter made it a comfortable place to be maskless with the masses.
The waitress seated us and told us that we had to be out by 8: 30, because someone else had the table at that time. We had 10 people, but should could have politely declined seating us if we were going to be an inconvenience.
Stopped here on a whim while visiting Philly, they were very busy but the staff was totally on point and we were seated and got our food in a surprising amount of time. The cheese steak egg rolls are unbelievable and totally worth taking another trip to Philly for.
I haven't had the food here but they always got great drinks on tap and the service behind the bar is amazing, the bartenders actually give great drink recommendations and are friendly.
It was a bit too noisy at lunch time. Maybe we were just unlucky that a group of very loud guys sat behind us. The iced water in my son’s glass looked cloudy. My shepherd’s pie and his burger were fine.
A true Pub. Several draft beers on Tap. Unique decor and a feeling of being in a bar/ restaurant that has a lot of history. Located on the University of Penn's campus. Delicious sandwiches and starters and the best warm bread pudding in the area.
Decent priced drinks, food on the expensive side based on portion size, but great quality.
College students are the main customer (Thursday evening), lots of TVs to watch a game.
Great variety of beer, including my favorite oregonian Deschutes. Nice service. Good food (just don't order shrimps). Great location.
Best Reuben I have ever eaten and it 100% caught me off guard. I had spent the afternoon at Cira Green, soaking in Philly vibes as it was my last night in the city and I went to cruise around historic University of Pennsylvania and stumbled upon this establishment - oh how the theory of dérive elicits the creation of beautiful situations! I ordered the Grilled Reuben sandwich with fries and a Yards IPA. Super thinly cut corned beef was a different take than usual, but on a flat top grill might allow for more surface area covered in butter or whatever heart stopping goodness that was cooked with. Sauerkraut was on point, dressing was great, and they rye bread was fresh and flavorful - overall, really the best Reuben I have eaten (one of my go-to meals, mind you, so my taste buds are on guard). Super cool soaking in the college vibes and hearing everyone's stories. Service was also wonderful - will be back when I am in town!
French onion soup was decent, average. The chicken nachos were disappointing.very little chicken, too much cheese & lacking in flavor. There just wasn't much to it.
We read good reviews but our service was not good. Our server vanished & after finishing we waited over 20 minutes.then found her to request the check. Although we didn't try much on the menu, we likely won't return
