Paula's Dog Services

Another dog trainer had been recommended to us when we got our puppy and after weeks of them being unresponsive I was told to try Paula’s Dog Services, which I did. We had a private session with her and then most recently competed a 6 weeks manners class. Paula was a perfect fit for our needs and our dog Rip Wheeler is doing really well. We will be attending additional classes with our dog. We call Paula the dog whisperer at our house.

I'm currently training my American Bulldog with Paula. She is extremely knowledgeable, patient and professional. Her love for animals is evident in her training techniques.

Paula is an excellent dog trainer. She understands dog psychology and helps you understand how to train your dog. She is very patient with the people! (We are the ones who really need the training). She has really helped me with my dogs. I highly recommend her! I will continue to bring my dogs in the future!

Took our dog through 2 separate courses, and it proved to be the best decision I made. We started when our dog was a puppy, and then took her to the canine good citizen class. I now use her at hospitals as a therapy dog, she is well mannered and obedient. Thanks to Paula and her training methods…….

I started taking my then 8 month old Maltipoo to Paula’s classes in the winter. I was hoping for some training ideas, in addition to thinking it would give our pup something to do during those cold winter months. 5 months later and we are still attending classes, not because it’s taking our pup that long to pick it up, but because she (and I) love going. Paula is so knowledgeable with all aspects of dog training. From basic commands to fun tricks, Paula has offered us a plethora of ideas. Our pup, who was slightly anxious attending her first few classes, now gets so excited for every single class! She has learned so many commands and tricks since her first session. She is becoming confident and more comfortable because of the support that Paula has provided.

I have worked with Paula with two pups over the last five years. She is patient, kind, knowledgeable, encouraging and a brilliant teacher to me and my puppies. She taught me how to train my dogs with positive methods to get the behavior desired. We both needed training and her knowledge and experience were key to a successful happy relationship. We have had private sessions and classes including puppy kindergarten, family manners and her favorite sports. Sasha can’t wait to go to class when we pull into the parking lot she is so excited. She enjoys free play with other dogs in a controlled environment. Paula can get her to try anything with her positive and encouraging approach. We’d have a very different dog without Paula.

I started taking my dog to Paula’s classes when he was a puppy. Paula is great at developing young puppy brains, and showing you how to shape the behaviors that you want rather than drilling commands. Her class was vital to making sure my dog was well socialized and more confident, especially during COVID, when it was difficult to get other opportunities for socialization.
Paula is dedicated to creating a safe class environment for dogs and their people. I highly recommend her classes!

We have taken two series of classes at Paula's Dog Services with our Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. Paula helped us tremendously from just a few days into owning our puppy in our home, through "Puppy Kindergarten" course and now just having graduated from "Family Manners". Throughout, Paula's instinctive but science based training has been First class. Her training is based on animal psychology and positive reinforcement of behaviors. We were referred to Paula's Dog Services by someone else and are so glad they did! We look forward to continuing to partner with Paula as she helps train our best friend as well as us!

Our family had never had a dog before and needed help with our new Shih tzu puppy. Paula has been amazing. Her knowledge and direction has been invaluable and has been a life changer for us. I have 2 daughters, 13 and 9, and Paula has been “training” them to “train” our puppy. Paula has great insight into the “why” behind puppy behavior and has empowered us with the tools and knowledge to raise a happy, well behaved dog. Paula is not only a very competent dog trainer but she is kind, flexible and super accommodating. She worked with our first dog on simple commands and eliminating some annoying behaviors. Within days of getting our second dog Paula immediately came to mind! We are working with her again on the commands but also on some interesting issues (dog won't go down stairs) that she creatively and thoughtfully resolved within 24hrs. Paula really does go above and beyond teaching dogs simple tricks but she teaches owners how to understand and communicate with their pets. She really teaches YOU how to train your dog with simple and effective techniques that always involve rewards for positive behaviors and non punitive methods. Again, Paula is a good teacher of dogs and humans alike and also very easy to work with and well liked by my pets and my children:)

We adopted a sheltie pup.beautiful and lovable, but terrified of the world at large. Vacuum cleaners, flushing toilets, bikes, dogs, runners, cars, trucks, buses, ironing boards, boxes.you name it. His fearful behavior was daunting enough for experienced dog people, but we were newbies. It took Paula’s devotion to us and our little maniac to get us to where we are today, and it was completely worth it. He’s happy and well-adjusted and even has gleefully welcomed a little brother.

He adores Paula. Just mention her name within his hearing and he’s looking for her. I happened to tell my husband that I was heading out to Anthropologie. All Harpo heard was “Paula” and he wanted to come along. Paula.the first human to ever understand him.

We rescued a border collie six months ago when he was 10 months old. We were told he was taken to the shelter because of a divorce, but we soon found out he also had uncontrollable anxiety that was destructive: for the first three months we couldn't have any furniture in our first floor (we closed the doors to the 2nd floor). He was even chewing our floors. He was also terrified of cars and had no bite inhibition. After working with Paula over the course of 3-4 months, he is much calmer, happier, and we even have all of our furniture back. She makes learning for both us and the dog fun and cares deeply about the well-being of the dog and her clients. We are very appreciative of how helpful she has been.
