The treatment here went downhill over the past 20 years.

It used to be the best place to go if you didn't mind spending extra time.

Now, the quality of the procedures is okay and the service and billing is horrific.

At first I came there and I felt something was off. They tell me to take my glasses off to take a picture of an x-ray of my teeth. When they checked my teeth they broke some of my teeth off.

Have tried for two months to have the xrays taken at Penn Dental emailed to my current dentist to no avail. Detailed forms filled out multiple times. Never sent. These belong to me but penn wont release them.
This after my last visit there with a totally inept student who didn't even know the numbers for my teeth. My experience a year ago was excellent. This time has been unacceptable. I will not be returning nor recommending.

I took my kid to Penn Pediatrics and I never want to take him to another office. They were so pleasant and patient with him. Camila was super amazing with my little bug and kept me in the loop with everything that was going on. Take your little ones. You won’t be disappointed.

They did not tell me if the procedure was covered by the insurance and 5 years later they send me an 800 bill. I tried to talk to the financial office they never reply to me. The medical assistant in the front look like just got hired yesterday.

Went in to get wisdom teeth removed. While my dentist seemed to know what they were doing my tech/assistant was (in the moment) laughably inept. Put my gas mask on upside down, hit me in the head with their elbow, put the suction straw in and had to be prompted to turn it on (by me!), kept getting in the way of the dentists head space and light. My highly competent dentist was on double duty, coaching their what appeared to be in shock dental student, and…surgery. I distinctly remember her expressing her need for headspace from the student, to be able to see what she was doing, when she slipped/nudge/jab the inside of my cheek.

I was awake but numbed so wasn’t sure how bad it was. Turns out, pretty freaking bad! My left side swelled to a terrifying size for the first six days without reduction of swelling. When i called to ask why I didn’t receive antibiotics or if I should be concerned, my dentist said wait a whole week until calling back. It was so bad over this weekend that I had to go to Urgent Care, and there indeed was infection.

Don’t get me started on the attitude of the main receptionist in oral surgery. Rude, dismissive, obviously hates her job, an absolute joy to settle bills with.

This was my third appointment here in order to get them out. First one took over an hour to be seen, and a guy opened my mouth, asked a few questions and said “oh your in the wrong department”, moved me down to surgery and they booked my actual appointment, which took another 6 weeks to book to get some x-rays done. First appointment where literally nothing happened, they charge me $45.

This place is supposed to be affordable, I chose to not get knocked out because on my second appointment/surgery consultation they said that having two wisdom teeth out when getting knocked out would cost $1000 without insurance, so I unknowingly chose the $700 semi sentient hellscape option instead.

It has been a literal nightmare, and I wouldn’t recommend oral surgery there to ANYONE. What a unnecessarily brutal week.

If I could give them zero, I would! I work at Penn, I thought my mom would be taken good care of by Penn dental school, just for the sake of the school name, but I could not be more wrong! The student dentist and the faculties were all fantastic, but it's the dysfunctional bureaucracy of this place that make it simply laughable to even consider going there for any dental treatment, unless you are on welfare, don't have a daytime job and can go there on your own and not worry about parking or public transit. It took us 6 months of sitting in the clinic more than 4 hours each time, still no denture in sight, which was the only thing my mom needed. Now it's the time to request her dental treatment record so we could go somewhere else, it has been over 4 weeks, endless phone calls, never a live person to even pick up the phone. When I asked to file a complaint, there is not even a phone number or live person to talk to. Please if you don't intend to torture yourself, avoid this place at all cost! The name of UPenn doesn't mean anything in terms of patient care, at least for this place!

If I could have my student dentist as my regular dentist, I would. She was absolutely amazing at everything she did, and I can tell she’ll go very far in this career. If you need dental work done, I highly recommend Penn Dental!

The student’s work is always checked by an official dentist with experience, too, so don’t worry about a student messing things up. I left here with more money in my pocket (since the cost is cheaper), very clean teeth, and a goodie bag!

More info: I do not have insurance but thought I needed cavities filled, as the last dental check up I had (with a different dentist) told me I had several cavities. Turns out, my last dentist was a complete scam and I only had two cavities that didn’t even need to be filled. This facility easily could have done them anyways, either to get money out of me or for the extra practice. But she was very honest and gave helpful info on how to get rid of them on my own. Additionally, they were very respectful when it came to my gender identify. I have peace of mind when I go to this dentist, knowing I don’t have any dental issues and my teeth are taken care of!

Terrible experience. Parking was all closed with no information on the website for alternate parking. We had to walk a half mile.

My wife and I have legal custody of our son, and she is the primary on the insurance, yet after 40 minutes of waiting and presenting custody paperwork they refused to see him (very embarrassing), I called and tried to speak to a manager with no success.

There was no communication prior to the appointment that any guardian paperwork would be required.

Staff was unfriendly and not accommodating.

You shouldn't come here if you have any dental issues. The doctors and students here are incompetent. I wasted roughly 4 years of my time and money to have them "help" my teeth. They instead made my teeth way worse. I had a crown put in, that fell off a few months later. It just fell off.
These people are just unable to do anything properly. Even their billing department is incompetent. I have called them so many times leaving voicemails and never getting any response.
Even today, they said that they were closed on Memorial day, and they'd be back May 31st. When I called May 31st (today as of writing) it said the same thing as the day before. That things would resume May 31st, it was May 31st.
There's literally nothing redeemable about this place.

After going to a new dentist they told me how badly Penn Dental messed my teeth up. I had an infection Penn did not find, they did not do my root canal properly. They did not even do my cleanings properly. The dentist I went to said it seemed as though I didn't have a cleaning in years. Even though Penn Dental did a "cleaning" a few months prior to writing this.

I received service from Lin, she a very nice young lady that cares about her patients. I love how she explained all the work she's doing plus shares what she has to next correct my teeth. Pleasent to be there getting dental care. Glad Lin has me to fix the problems that have with my teeth because l am an transplant patient it could get overwhelming at times. I know know it can be when you meet people for the first time. Lin is doing a great job

I was trying to get an appointment for my son, who has down syndrome. I was referred to Penn Dental Medicine by a local dentist who was not able to take X rays from my son because he is not able to stay still. But I was not able to make an appointment with Penn. They asked a bunch of questions about my son and his insurance, and after I answered all these questions, they told me that they don't have an available spot in their schedule until September, but were not able to provide an appointment for that month or any month after. They provided a phone number and asked me to keep calling every week until an appointment was possible. By the way they asked questions and their strange way to give appointments I knew that my son will never have the chance to get an appointment with Penn Dental Medicine. Besides, my son can't wait for long time, he needs to see a dentist right now and not to wait an undetermined number of months to get his first appointment.

My insurance was changed and Penn Dental was one of my only options. Came for a yearly check up. The FIRST visit took 2 HOURS to do a basic x-ray. The x-ray receptor they use is massive and will cut up the inside of your mouth. The student doing my x-rays had to do every x-ray at least twice, he was hopeless. The SECOND visit took another 2 hours for cleaning. Never have I left a dentist in such pain after a basic cleaning. I would strongly suggest not coming here.

Dental service is fine, but getting an appointment is impossible. I called in, waited 20 mins and then was removed from hold only to have to listen to a personal conversation for 5 mins. When they realized I was on the line they hung up on me and I had to call back again and wait another 25 mins.

I went in for my first appointment, I told them I wanted braces so they did X-rays and told me to go to my regular dentist to get my teeth cleaned and come back once that’s done. I did all of that, then when I called to schedule my second appointment, they told me the student that actually did my X-rays will call me back to set a date, pretty unusual, usually the front desk sets a date but I said ok. Waited 3 weeks and still got no call back. I literally JUST called before writing this review and was on hold for 15 minutes then when the front desk answered no one said anything, I’m assuming they answered by accident because I could literally hear their conversation and when I kept saying “HELLOOOOOOOO” no one responded. I did that for a about 5 minutes until I gave up and called back and now I’m on hold AGAIN.

Have had an amazing experience so far with Dr. Rebecca in the pediatric dentistry department. Beyond obviously being very intelligent and skilled at her work, she is exceptionally professional and patient-oriented. Her bedside manner is terrific and she did a wonderful job communicating about our treatment options. The front desk ladies are friendly and so helpful. The parking lot is an easy short walk away and the waiting area is nice with a tv and aquarium. Wait times are usually pretty short. The only downside is that it does usually take quite a bit of time to get through on the phone lines. Once you are a patient, it is very convenient to schedule your next appointment before leaving.

I’ve loved everything about PDM. The facility is bright and incredibly modern. All the faculty are amazing. I had not been to a dentist in well over a decade and I petrified so I wanted to try something out of the box for my first time in a long time. I was assigned as a patient to Brandon Tran and I cannot say enough great things about him. He was so pleasant, reassuring, professional and thorough through both of my treatment plans he completed for me. He made coming to dentist regularly a no-brainer for me again. Today was my last appointment for my second treatment and also Brandon’s last appointment before he graduates.that’s one of the downsides for these types of clinics ️ I hope I get paired with another great talent like him and I look forward to continuing with PDM for years to come!?
