Museum Pennsbury Manor reviews
19Took the tour of William Penn’s home. Our tour guide was great and knowledgeable. The grounds were well taken care of and it was an enjoyable day out with family and friends.
Great experience. Learned a lot about not only William Penn, but also about the quaker religion. Well informed tour guide and beautiful nature around the manor.
Kids had a field trip today and the staff were extremely rude short with the kids. Telling curious minded 9 yr olds "we don't answer questions here" is totally disgusting.
Pennsbury Manor is a wonderful look back at what is as close to the 17th century manor as historians and architectural experts could get the rebuild in the 1930's. (The original manor on the grounds was collapsed and decayed by the 1730's) Highly recommended for any history fan, ensure you catch one of the guided tours of the manor!
Pennsbury Manor was the estate of William Penn. The manor house and associated out buildings were rebuilt in the 1930s as the original had burnt down. Staff friendly and knowledgeable. Recommend you do the tour of the manor and then visit the barn where the sheep, horses, oxen and geese are housed. Also check their web page for special events. Before heading out of the Visitor Center take the time to go through the exhibit hall to get a good background on Penn and Pennsbury.
It is a great place to step back in time and visit the summer home of William Penn. You can walk to grounds of a recreated (at least in spirit) of his residence. They offer tours from very enthusiastic guides and have many special days offering demonstration from spinning yarn to brewing beer. Great place for education or just a relaxing day.
The guides were wonderful.very knowledgeable and friendly. The grounds are magnificent. The museum exhibits.very good also. It was not crowded, so we had the place to ourselves
Cool place for a day trip with the fam.interesting local history in a scenic location right on the Delaware river. Only down side is it was like 100 degrees inside the mansion but I guess that's how it was back in the day haha. Highly recommend
Beautiful grounds steeped in deep history. Make sure to pack a lunch and eat down by the edge of the Delaware River.
Quite an interesting place, though the story reveals many holes if carefully considered.
For some reason I keep forgetting that I was here before. Even this time, I didn't recall I've been here about four years prior. It wasn't until several days went by that I did realize.
Anyway, this and many other preserved historic sites hold a key to the true history of this world if we can read between the lines of the narrative.
All that aside, it's a cool place to see some great animals including bee keeping, walk on some nice green grass, and speak with some knowledgeable people about our possible past.
I chaperoned my son's field trip today and had a wonderful experience! It really takes a lot for these reenactors to dress up in the heat and still make a beautiful presentation about the history of the grounds and Time period. They did an amazing job! The buildings and grounds are meticulously maintained and clean. Very organized and knowledgeable. I look forward to coming back.
This is a great little historical park. Facilities are clean, plenty of parking, out door picnic tables under Pavillion. You can see demonstrations of life events in late 1600s, early 1700s. They have memberships which seem reasonably priced and a great Christmas event. It on the river and beautiful but sadly right next to a huge smelly landfill.
A beautiful spot to visit anytime of the year. We just attended Halloween at the manor and our kids had a blast. There were plenty of crafts, games, and activities to do, not to mention the event was free. I hope we can go again soon.
Well preserved historical site. Everyone welcoming and lots to see. Good for 2-4 hours of leisurely discovery. Awesome on a nice day.
Nice museum dedicated to William Penn. It's a shame the structures aren't original though.
As a Blackfoot Lenape I am very Grateful for This institution. They have given us Ground for repatriation of 200 of our Ancestors and provided areas for Tipi and we recently built a Sweat Lodge. I am very thankful to have been in that Lodge on the First Sweat. History will help heal these wounds from the past.
Nice little historic estate. Free to go in when we went. Doesn't take too long to go through but you can spend as long as you want there. They have a nice little pavilion for picnics. It's small-ish and out of the way but if you're anywhere near the area or the adjacent state park it's definitely worth at least a walkthrough.
I missed the last tour by an hour but from what I did see it is a very nice park. Lots of history here. I try to imagine it being 1760 before the signing of the Declaration of Independence and Will Penn riding his horse from here to old city down the King's Highway over the same exact bridge that is still there today on what we know as Frankford Ave just below Ashburner ave. There probably wasn't much in between I wonder what that ride was like, it's no wonder he signed the treaty with the lenape people, if you are curious that treaty took place beneith a big old Elm (not there any more but they do have the spot the tree stood marked) at Penn Treaty Park. Also if your viewing his statue a top Philadelphia' s City Hall from the correct angle (the one that doesn't look like his taking a piss lol) he is actually pointing at Penn Treaty Park where he made peace with the native tribe. Blows my mind how much important history is all around us every single day and most people have no clue. Do yourselves and children a favor and slow down look around and read signs when you see anything in this area that looks old it is and there is always a story to be told sometimes with great significance and if you can't find a sign look for somebody is usually always someone there that knows the story and would probably love to share it so that it never dies or is forgot. Without the knowledge of all this stuff we could lose it all I can only imagine how much has already been lost.
Finally open again after the Covid pandemic. Great parking, clean restrooms, and just a safe place to visit for some PA history.
