Pep Boys, State College PA

Absolute scam artists and take advantage of women. Wife took our daughters car in for new tires (Amazon) and inspection. Car drove and ran fine up to and including taking it to Pep Boys. "All of a sudden" we have a cracked front wheel hub and a 800 bill. Classic scam of not wanting to put tires on from another business and coming up with repairs that make up the cost. All of this on top of not having any record of the appointment being made even though we called and confirmed it earlier in the week. Also, never did the oil change that was requested when the appointment was made. I will never go there again and will definitely tell everyone I know to avoid this absolute scam of an operation.

This place is trash go somewhere else to get your car fixed! If I could leave a 0 star review I would on this place. My starter needed to be replaced so we brought it in and the original bill was 900 dollars for “engine diagnostics” and the replacement. Through some questioning I was able to get the price down to 600 with the help of my dad. But this was the least of my worries. The day after it was “fixed” I was back on the highway when out of nowhere the engine got ridiculously hot which caused me to have to pull over on the side of the road. After letting the car cool down it wouldn’t even start up again and now it is so messed up I need to send it all the way to a dealer! This has been really frustrating to say the least! Go else where please

The service was done well and quick as it could be done. The reason why I only gave it 4 stars was because of the waiting area. I understand the store is under construction, so once finished it may be better. BUT the team was great, and the work was done well.

State college Pa. Store has great employees and store managers. I did have one problem and I hope that someone in a higher position reads this. The online scheduling is a total mess. I made my appointment for 3: 30pm and figured that one hour was more than enough time to install a new set of tires. I come to find out that they had 2 mechanics for tires and approximately 9-10 customers scheduled for the same exact time. This has been an ongoing problem for the employees at this store. All it would take is to change the scheduling process to match the amount of help is working the store. Once again, the people at the store were very apologetic and super professional. The problem unfortunately is with corporate.

Had an issue with wiring in my car that required removing the interior panels; one of the panels had a preexisting crack that the technician was concerned about - he called me to clear the work before doing it, since he wasn't sure if the piece would break in the process of getting it out. I was told that it could be up to $1300 if they couldn't get it out in one piece, but was thrilled when they called me later and said they were able to get the work done for approximately $300. We've been very pleased with all the work they've done on our cars for years, and the staff are super friendly and willing to explain things!

They employee incompetent people. A simple job like tire installation was so difficult for those numb nuts. They start by taking all the bolts off and banging all my wheels on my brake dust shields, then they misplace lug bolts, over torque all the wheels, over fill my tires and take forever to return the car. How about you call me back and give me back my money

I waited all day for my car to be fixed and something as simple as changing spark plugs and an oil change costed me almost $1400 cuz they counted all the hours they worked on my car. The times I walked by no one was even near my car

I can't say enough about the service at this Pep Boys on East College Ave. Rita was phenomenal! She got me in without an appointment and she really went above and beyond.

Waited for my car while getting a wheel alignment. The process was quick and employees very friendly. While there's Wifi available, the waiting space wasn't entirely comfortable.

DO NOT COME HERE! I took my vehicle here to fix the alternator belt that a previous Pep Boys had placed on improperly. This shop in State College put the belt on properly, but when I got my car back there was a loud knocking sound coming from the engine. There were no previous problems with my engine. In fact, the engine worked very well. The sound got worse in a short time and blew up. Needless to say, I will never go back to a Pep Boys unless it's to inform other people before they walk in that they will be charged an arm and a leg for their vehicle to come out in worse condition than it went in.

I got a nail in my tire and needed a tire patch. I was able to easily schedule online and drop off my car the same day. I worked with Rita, who was friendly and helpful. My tire was repaired in a very timely manner. Overall, super satisfied with how easy and quick every part of this process was!

I scheduled online and left my vehicle but easily could have stayed as it was completed in about 25 minutes. Job done right, quickly, and at a fair price.

Order tire over phone went after leaving work early I was told I was quoted wrong size tires it be little more expensive I asked it was $300 more I'm telling everyone to avoid Pep boys

I sat for a hour. Then I went outside to brake the boardum. And my truck wasn't even touched yet. No tex to tell me what was up. Then I found some to talk to. Sat for another 30 min. Then the guy came out and said there was 2 links that had a slite bend To it. And can't do the alignment on my truck. Then he was messing around with the register and sad that would be 45 dollars for looking at it. So I left work early and burned 3 hours vacation. Sat there over 1 1/2 hours to get told we can't do it. And then they tried to charge me 45 buck for a few min of looking at it. I lost all sanity after that.

Needed a tire replacement and they were the only place open in all of central PA on a Sunday.

Realized a few weeks later while changing my brakes/rotors they completely massacred a lugnut post on the tire. Crossthreaded lugnut and unusable post. Driving around with four lugnuts until they could see me.

They scheduled me to come in during their crew's lunch break (awesome?) so had to wait 2 hours instead of an expected one hour. They agreed it was their fault but also "found and fixed" a second post that "couldn't have been their fault" so of course I ended up walking out of there minus $120. I should have fought it. They didn't stop before doing the work to ask if I even wanted anything done beyond their initial repair. No evidence there was even a real problem (didn't have an issue putting any of the other four lugnuts back on myself before this).

No apologies, either. Can't say this has been a pleasant experience. I'll certainly be avoiding unless absolutely necessary.

Sketchy to say the least.pricing seems highly variable even from day to day for same services.
Don't go here, even if you have to.
