Reading Railroad Heritage Museum reviews
11 I went here due to a friend volunteering here. I love machinery, electronics, and some antiques.
I didn't spend time inside, but got the tour. While some of it just doesn't really interest me, I imagine it's a dream for old heads or train enthusiasts. I enjoyed it just for the sense of nostalgia, even for an era I didn't exist in, like old trains straight from a movie.
They actively to try refurnish the trains and restore power, which is the side that interested me.
The two gentlemen who work the museum are endearing but it is a place for adult railroad aficionados. The children did not enjoy even though they had a little table with a model of a town and a working railroad. It is a tiny place, with maybe three old trains in the back of which you get a nice little informative introduction to. The place itself is very dated even for a museum and we made the mistake of parking far away and walking, the area is desolate and outright creepy. There was however a really magical house.and garden that we passed on the way to it which come to think of it made me feel like I just passed the candy house from Hansel amd Gretel.
Great little historical museum on The Reading Railroad. Very polite and knowledgeable volunteers with some really cool displays. Will definitely be returning in the future.
The guides gave a nice tour of the equipment on site. It was timely to visit after seeing the 2102 earlier in the day. Be sure to check it out.
We really enjoyed visiting this informative, historical museum about the Reading Railroad. There are many exhibits outside worth seeing with a tour guide. Inside is a nice, small museum and a gift shop. There's also some toy trains & tracks for the little ones. Worth seeing if you like trains.
Came here with our 3 & 5yo boys. They have some toy train sets that kept them occupied. N-Scale, G-scale, and HO-scale trains were running, with the n-scale being interactive. We took the train yard tour, which lost the boys’ attention. Some cool artifacts and other model trains were on display, and there’s a pretty decent-sized gift shop. They have a small ride-on train that wasn’t running yet (it’s still winter, so too cold), but we might be back to ride sometime. Overall would recommend for train enthusiasts.
The video was amazing and informative. Alot of exhibits all over. Didn't really like the outdoor tour was 45 minutes and guided.
Absolutely amazing collection of artifacts, documents, and photos of the history of the Reading Railroad. There is much to see outside, with various locomotives and railcars in different stages of repair.
Great place to bring your kids of all ages. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Looking forward to visiting again
Low key but impressive, telling not just the story of a railroad but of key chapters in the history of southeast Pennsylvania and beyond. Helpful dedicated volunteer staff made ours a great visit, for a three generation group.
Totally unique powerful Reading locomotives, caboose, crane and rolling stock. ALCo Century, RS-3, GE U-boat and EMD attracted my historical interest. Wonderful artifacts of a magnificent fallen flag mighty railroad!
