Retro Photo Reading reviews
9 One of the best experience of customer service I’ve had. Honestly I would give them 6 stars if it let me!
I had gotten a Canon F-1n at an online estate sale but the camera after receiving (and pictures didn’t show) was missing a film rewind coupler screw on the bottom making it unusable cause light would then just expose the whole roll. But I messaged these guys and within minutes they replied, had the part and had it in the mail to me asap. I’ve now shot 4 rolls in my camera and loving it. Thank you again for being amazing Retro Photo!
After endless Instagram ads promoting the re-opened & business under the new name “Retro Photo, ” I figured Id send a few rolls over for development. I think I sent 3 or 4. It’s been sometime since this occurred. I waited over a month before reaching out for updates, and consistent ghosting of my emails led me to comment on their Instagram stories. They post everyday on there, and they post a lot. They kinda ignored me on there, or would shoot me a one word or one sentence answer without answering all my questions.
Finally after they promised a few times to send them over on certain dates and they didn’t. I put my foot down. Then & only then, the same person who’d been posting on Instagram revealed he was the new owner and had been swamped. They eventually sent the photos & they were NOT great at all. As another reviewer mentioned below, they forget your order, and the images did have scratches. Like what?
Now maybe things have changed since, but I do not recommend the company at all. In my mind I want to think, growing pains…? Maybe? Honestly though, I think it’s lack of care. I’ve been shooting film for years and have tried tons of labs out while traveling. My home lab now legit calls me every time my role arrives and confirms how many, what I want done, and confirms the pulls & pushed rolls too. They do it all, from APS, 110mm, 35mm, 120mm, and can do as many stops pulled or pushed you want.
You shouldn’t have to deal with a company that cares more about their IMAGE on Instagram, than your images you’ve paid for.
The associates are always helpful with questions and very knowledgeable about cameras and film.
I also bring my 6 year old cousin here because he's starting to get into photography with film and digital.
They even showed him what they do with the rolls of films brought in from customers.
He was so happy about that!
They're located a few blocks from me, which is a nice walk for sightseeing and pics.
So I recommend anybody to stop by someday.
The best friendly neighborhood camera shop. Super knowledgeable, and the cheapest and best developing around. And always have time to answer questions, even when they're slammed.
They're nice enough, but the lab performance is poor. Special notes are ignored, film comes back scratched, and I have to message them on IG every time when my order is forgotten.
Very helpful over phone somethings are just right on market others are very off from market other wise cool place
Mister Hotshoe approved! They really go out of their way to make sure you find exactly what you need! Absolutely top-tier customer service.
Excellent place. Very knowledgeable, has everything, great developing prices. And great results both developing and scanning.
Michael helped me find a dream Nikon F2 with the right viewfinder at a solid price. Developed lots of film, great service and very responsive to inquiries. It's nice to have a good shop that knows cameras and film, even if I live across the country.
