Ron's Caribbean Cafe, Philadelphia PA

Hi. I have been a consistent customer of Ron’ Carribbean Restaurant for many years. And the food was awesome, plenty of food and reasonable prices, Sadly, however lately the food has been terrible! I don’t know what happened! New cook, maybe! Much smaller containers and higher prices. Or they sent their best cooks to their new location on Rising Sun and taking their faithful, reliable, customers for Granted! I was extremely disappointed.

Haven't been to this place in yeeeeaaarrrssss. Can't stand them with a passion. I receive no respect in this place when being serviced, and that's why I stopped coming. But my sister loves this place and wanted to treat me to lunch, so. I dealt with it for 36 minutes plus the time in line. My vow to myself is to never spend my money in a place where they act as if you as a customer don't matter to them. Ron's girls are one of those places. Our situation was we were waiting on fish. Now, if you had 4 orders waiting on fish, you should've set up a better system to make sure first comes first serve. Now your boss comes out and asks us a question we gonna tell the truth she didn't give us our food yet. And I got 4 more minutes left on my parking app!

The oxtail was excellent.and the goat curry was good. I'll definitely be back for the oxtail. The food was awesome. One thing I'll say last time the oxtail was really salty I didn't like it. I guess they notice it and change it. Now the oxtail is perfect. I love it.

Fish is not the same. It's not as crispy as it used to be and no garnish. They had a new fried rice that was delicious!

I was actually working there today. But I do aks others what they think.and every single person I asked (4 people) every one said "the best food in town". Nothing but smiles and great service.

Horrible! If I could give minus stars ️ I would! First of all, the cashiers/ women taking orders- lack customer service skills. You’d think for their BIG AGE, they would know how to properly greet and serve a paying customer! Just because you are in the heart of the hood doesn’t mean you get the right to stop having common courtesy and respect for your customers! My son stopped by Ron’s (against my better judgment) to pick up two oxtail platters. I didn’t feel like cooking them at home, my laziness came with a hefty price. My son paid $52 dollars for two oxtails platters. Both sides, sweet potatoes and Mac and cheese. The server got so mad my son wanted to add to his order she didn’t give him a side to one of his platters. So he actually spent over $60 after adding cheesecake and a beef patty from Sams club to my order! Both platters had NO GRAVY and the Mac and cheese was made with some type of sweet heavy cream…. Yuck! I was appalled! The cost of oxtails no doubt have gone up! But the QUALITY of RONS.decreased after COVID! Rons have made MILLIONS from our neighborhood/community! You could at least hire and treat the neighborhood with some friendly workers and respect do better it’s far too many restaurants better than yours. 1 outta 10 will never go again

DO NOT ORDER CATERING HERE! We ordered and paid for catering a day in advance and they were over an hour and half late when we went to pick up our order. Terrible service.

Complete lack of respect! Ron’s is an excuse for Caribbean food at this point. Please DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. I was served curry and jerk patties that were burnt to a crisp and clearly pressed/stepped on by someone. The patties are hard as hockey pucks, I stopped getting the dry jerk chicken and thought I’d be safe consuming the patties. I wouldn’t serve this to a sick dog, Ron’s seen my order was through DoorDash and sent over TERRIBLE QUALITY food because they could. I’m telling you now, spend your money elsewhere.

The food here is discussing a shame to soul food period. I order mac and cheese which was not baked, my salmon looked like it wasn't cooked correctly, rice is dry with broken old beans. I would never order from here again or refer to anyone.

The very 1st time I came to Ron's was 3 years ago, and I got an Oxtail platter with the works (rice & peas were included with 2 sides), and I paid for another side (sweet potatoes). It was delicious and the price was right! Every time that I've wanted to go back, I talked myself out of it, until today, so I gave in and decided to order the same platter (this time it only included rice & peas w/1 side, so I ordered the 2 other sides). I was so excited to get home and dig into it; well, I was extremely disappointed! The oxtails were not falling off the bone because it was mostly bone (the new cuts), and they were slightly tough; the macaroni and cheese was pasty, chalky, not seasoned, and also not hot ; the cabbage also had no seasoning, and not hot! The best things were the sweet potatoes and the rice w/ peas! Did I mention that I was extremely disappointed? I also ordered a slice of Carrot Cake, so I tasted that and it was very good, so I went to dig in, and it fell right to the floor! That's when I realized, I should have come home and cooked my own dinner; could have saved myself 36.00 + a 5.00 tip! It was a costly lesson, and it won't soon be forgotten! Maybe I'll try again, in another 3 years, or maybe not! It also ran through me, like Grant through Richmond (old-heads will understand)!

Food is exceptional. Reasonably priced. Excellent customer service.staff very attuned to customers.

I like Ron's. This is my favorite Jamaican food restaurant. Today I was in and out for a change because typically the line is long. They gave me what I wanted like I wanted it. I was satisfied with the flavor and the portion size for the cost because oxtail is so expensive. The cabbage was tasty with just the right amount of spice and chew. Not too salty. I had been wanting someone oxtail for a while and went. Here and there, but never satisfied. But today I broke down and went where I know I can find satisfaction. Now I can rest off that for a while. All things in moderation.

They don’t answer the phone. Their attitude’s are terrible. They believe they’re always right. The older woman on the register is a terrible manager.

I’m so sad Ron’s fell off. They used to be my favorite. Everything was undercooked (oxtails and rice!) and the Mac and cheese was so dry and flavorless: (

Every time I go there I get a new person making my food and they all do different portions if I'm going to repay in 1920 dollars for a platter I want all my money's worth not no skinny person being stingy with the rice or meat

I wished the service matched the flavor of the food. The food here is delicious! I've been ordering Caribbean food from here for years, but the ATTITUDES suck! I get frustrated with Black-owned establishments that have horrible service staff with funky/rude attitudes! I went from eating here multiples times each month to barely once a month. There are people who have worked there since I was in high school (2007) and their attitude has NOT changed! It's so bad that they have now trained new staff to follow the same negative behavior. I hope the owner sees this post because he/she REALLY needs to do something about this! It's unacceptable!
