Sarcone's Bakery reviews
20While I love the bread I placed an order on Tuesday for a pick up on Thursday. I ordered un-Seeded bread for a recipe (4 loaves) and was given seeded. I told them they gave me the wrong order and she said they ran out so they substituted so I said isn’t that why you recommend to place an order? Response: sorry. Thanks now I have to take the seeds off of four loaves of bread. Do better Sarcones, there is no excuse for this.
We went to about 5 bakeries in south Philadelphia to try the different tomato pies. They were all delicious in their own way. Sarcone's was far and away the best. To be honest, there's very little reason to go anywhere else. The canoli was also delicious.
My husband and I tried tomato pie at 5 different bakeries before stepping into Sarcones. Theirs was by far the best one!
Smells like New Jersey. If you aren't an multimillionaire and want to feel like you don't belong, this is the place for you.
I CAN-NOLI IMAGINE @sarcones_bakery South Philly, PA
Don't be fooled by this little shop entrance. This bakery is filled with history, character, and women power in the front + multiple Louis Sarcones baking behind the scenes it is a 5th generation Italian bakery started in 1918 with pizzas, Italian cookies, Italian baked bread/goods. More than 90 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
Too tempted to grab this before lunch that day. And of course, we needed to try their Cannoli! Packed with cream in a crispy shell (they fill it fresh to order).
As you can see it's very simple, with a few chocolate chips. Nothing too fancy unlike the modern Italian bakeries. Shell was very crispy, good bubbles/aeration. Cream was not too sweet, with nice dairy flavor. I could eat 5 of these at once
Service was slightly rude but expected with an authentic Italian business haha
Can't wait to try their famous tomato pie though!

It's really the last of thee places to go for old fashioned home cooked bread. Louis and Linda have done a great job.a long way since Kingston Drive.when I met them in.dare I say it.the 1970s at Camden Catholic. I believe Louis went to Cherry Hill West
. I actually walked in the other day.after not seeing them in literally 30 years to buy some rolls.obviously there is something in that bread that still makes them look way younger than me.lol
They're generational for a reason.a very good one to me and my children. I can't be more blessed with the respect and regards that we show towards one another over a good meal.just sayin'.
The best seeded rolls and dinner rolls around.they are freshly baked daily. The pepperoni and sausage loaves are a hit in my family! Clean store and friendly staff
Incredibly fresh bread. When I cut a roll, I heard air splash out of the bread. I’ve never had this experience before. Simple bread but they are so so delicious. Their tomato and cheese pies are great snack, too ;-)
The bread is very good as well as their pizza. The customer service is okay, and I wished there was an option to warm up the pizza when purchased. But hey, if you want fresh, long rolls of scrumptious bread, go here!
We came in for Italian bread (which they were already sold out of) but were amazed at how good the tomato pie looked. The place is small so it’s a very poor set up for a long line. A guy who got there after me decided to jump in and order before me. I’m not one to cause a scene, though, so I just let it go. Then, of course, he took all of the pepperoni pizza that was left. We decided on getting to plain slices and two sausage slices. The boxes are way too small for 4 slices of pizza. Instead of providing a box that actually fit our slices, she just continued to show them in. The box didn’t even shut by time she gave it to us and the top was crushing the pizza. It was a little frustrating to have to walk around shopping with a half opened box of pizza when they could have literally just given us a larger box to fit them. Then, we got home and the pizza nears the crease of the lid was completely stuck the the top of the box. So all of the cheese and toppings ripped off and stuck to the box. For the fact that this was really the only piece with a decent amount of sauce and toppings, we were a bit disappointed. The pizza was good at the end of the day but I wasn’t really satisfied with the service and presentation of the product I received.
Nice Italian bakery with lots of varieties. Bread is always fresh and tasty. Owner is polite and helpful.
Good old school Italian bakery. They have all kind of breads and cookies but I wish they carried some nice pastries like apple turnovers and danishes. I tried the tomato pie for the first time and it's not bad. It reminds me of a slightly crunchier and garlicky Sicilian but without cheese. All in all, it's worth your time and money.
Great rolls and cookies. Tomato pie was exceptional. Must stop if you're in the area.
Old school Italian bakery located in South Philly near Society Hill. The garlic bread was delicious and at only $2.50 for a giant loaf, a bona fide bargain! We arrived at about 3: 15 and they were completely sold out of bread which is what we had come in for, but lesson learned. So now we know, if we want to try the bread, get there early. But at least we got to try the garlic bread which we would definitely buy again.
Again, I'm shorted rolls. Only one today but about 2 months ago, I purchased a variety of rolls and cookies and when I got home, was short 6 rolls. I called and was left on hold for 10 minutes. Check you order before you leave. Since I live in Delaware, I had to go out of my way but not sure if I would go back. There's no denying, the rolls are delicious.
Yes it is worth it to come here & try the room temperature Tomato Pie! They only had ONE slice left when we arrived. It is SIMPLE but the flavor will blow your mind! YUM! Visit the Italian market and make sure to come here for an after coffee snack. Within walking distance to iconic Ralph's Italian Restaurant and Also famous Angelo's Pizza.
The tomatoe pie was over cooked and hard as a rock. I was told not to buy it there and now I will not again.
I’ve never been to Sarcone’s Bakery, but I am definitely looking forward into going to try the tomato pie! It looks so delicious! Really looking forward to visiting some day next time I go to Philly.
I can live on the bread.in the morning, bread and butter, appetizer, cheezy garlic bread, dinner just mop the sauce or gravy up with some crusty seeded.i miss the build your own slow cooker office lunches, always sarcones, a hunk of cheese and a pot of and tomatoey goodness.wine on the holidays.the itis is real
