I am sick and disgusted with the way my brother keeps being given medication that he isnt supposed to have because it makes him hear voices and gives him physical ailments. He keeps telling the doctors and psychiatrists but they wont listen to him. He was doing very well until I was talking to them about possibly moving him closer to family. He has COPD but than they administer medication that has trouble breathing as a side effect? Who do you talk to, to even get any results?

They cant ever keep a stable physiatrist, the one therapist i went to barley spoke for the entire 45 minutes he sat there typing one by one and did not fit the job description, he should've went back to newscasting maybe he would talk more, made me suicidal just sitting in an empty room with him clicking on his keyboard.they have no consideration for their patients, i havent been able to get my meds prescribed for almost 4 days.absolutely disgusting how inconsiderate they are.ontop of that they have nothing but 22-24yr olds who are clueless on how to deal with unstable patients, they should hire people who actually have had real life problems and experience.

Not even 1 star deserved. Do not come here if you're in crisis! My daughter had an appt.with a counselor. She waited a month for it. When she arrived was told the counselor decided the day before to leave. Apparently gave no notice. What professional does that? Then she was rescheduled for another 3 weeks out! Wth!

All staff I have met thus far have been very patient and kind, as well as understanding. I haven't had any issues yet!

Shouldn't even be given one star! This place is a disaster. Inexperienced staff, rude, more concerned about turning people into walking spaced out zombies then helping them through their problems. I wouldn't take a pet there let alone a loved one after one experience there. Please do yourself and look elsewhere for help for yourself or your loved one!

Everyone I encountered was very pleasant, helpful, and did their best to get my child services as soon as possible. I really could not have asked for a better experience!

Cindy has been wonderful, glad to have access to a free program that has such knowledgeable and helpful workers.

If I could give them 0 stars I would. The employees are nothing but disrespectful, negligent, and unprofessional in all aspects. The doctors are awful and will refill your child’s medication for months without seeing the child or providing any counseling. HUGE RED FLAG AGAINST THE DOCTORS. They just want to fill your child with meds and send you on your way. GO ANYWHERE ELSE IF YOU WANT YOUR CHILD PROFESSIONALLY TAKEN CARE OF.

My experience with Scranton counseling has been negative I can relate to all the negative reviews they receive because I have experienced them myself If you are going to a mental health crisis the answer is always call the police Who you know or not equipped to deal with things like that

Tried to make an appointment for a family member. Was hung up on. Edit: saw the Dr. Very rude. Poor bedside manners. Walked out of there in tears. Will never bother with these people again.

What do you have to do to get your kid an intake appointment? 2 weeks and counting and 3 calls in and STILL no call back. At this point, I just feel really bothersome and annoying to keep having to call. Smh.

Sky did a great job and worked fast on getting a prescription filled for a resident for me.

Sure, the new building might be nice to look at, or “state of the art” as some may put it, but that means nothing — at least to me — if, behind the glitz and glam, the experience leaves much to be desired. Allow me to elaborate...

I had to wait three months for an intake appointment with Dr. Byard. In case that wasn’t already defeating, Dr. Byard spent no more than 30 minutes in the initial assessment I patiently waited for, and was quick to make a diagnosis without all of the necessary information. I advised Dr. Byard this diagnosis has been made and rescinded by various other psychiatrists, but that apparently is not relevant information.

Also, to my displeasure, despite it not being a thorough intake process, I did not feel like the attention or care was given to me that, as a patient, you would expect during an initial intake assessment.

You might be wondering why I feel this way... This is because Dr. Byard spent a glaring amount of time on his cell phone while “completing the assessment. ” Not only is this unprofessional behavior... It ultimately lead to my distrust in our provider/client relationship.

The icing on the cake, at least for me, was when Dr. Byard stated to me — a recovering bulimic — that, even at my lowest weight, “That’s still a normal BMI. ” This practically invalidates the months I spent in treatment in order to achieve and maintain a healthy and stable weight.

The Body Mass Index is a fancy title and formula that was developed nearly 200 years ago by a mathematician. It fails to account for the differences in bone density, muscle tones, or even fat. It’s based upon numbers, not distribution of weight. Because some — like apparently Dr. Byard — base their evaluations with only BMI in mind, it’s not uncommon for there to be missed diagnoses, misdiagnoses, and discrimination because, essentially, physicians relied solely on looking at someone's body size and numbers on a chart, rather than listening to pt’s actual concerns and symptoms.

Not only was it an inappropriate comment to make, but it’s an archaic measure to use. It’s not a realistic expectation for physicians to effectively address obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, malnutrition, or various other conditions when this is a determining factor. “Archaic” seems like a fair description to me when considering the origins — it was spearheaded based off data collected on white males and built on the assumption that ‘the greater the BMI, the greater the chance of developing chronic illnesses. ’

So, because my “BMI was normal, ” I was healthy at my lowest weight — right?

I’ll consider it a true blessing in disguise learning that my insurance does not cover treatment in a place that is far from therapeutic. That in mind, I’ll happily wait another three months if it means I am connected with more supportive and professional care. I hope in the interim that Scranton Counseling Center better educates their staff on sensitivity and professionalism.

A special shout out to Beverly Hannon from Scranton Counseling Center. Her love and care for the guests we serve at Keystone Mission is self evident. We are thankful to Scranton counseling to allow her to work with the addicted and homeless. She connects with our guests in a way that is relateable for all involved. We are thankful to have her part of what we do!

4 stars and only for the amazing staff in the partial program especially Dr. Tiffany Hughes-Eagen! And that is because hopefully things will get better in the future and the partial staff work hard! She is the best psychiatrist i have ever had! Actually the best psychiatrist Scranton Counseling ever had! I had her in outpatient before they pulled her to partial and ACT team and i never had a dr who listened and cared so much about each of their patients as much as her! If Scranton Counseling knows what’s good for them they will make sure they hire more like her! They also need to hire more therapists for the partial program to make it run more efficiently! The staff do the best they can but some days i swear if it wasnt for the master’s level interns helping out they might lose their heads and might not be able to meet the needs of all their patients especially if someone is having a bad day and need to speak to a therapist! PARTIAL NEEDS MORE STAFFING! ANOTHER MASTERS LEVEL THERAPIST! Especially since partial is continuously growing! There is no reason that psych rehab gets a million staff and a million rooms for their program and we are shoved in a corner with 3 tiny rooms that alot of the days the entire program doesnt fit in one room without people having anxiety attacks! It isnt the staffs’ fault they are doing their best but with only three therapists they dont have enough staffing to split groups as of right now!

Also, get outpatient groups! As the only public mental health facility in the area you should be having groups that are able to be attended on an outpatient basis for specific things such as lgbtq+ support, depression, anxiety, anger management, so on and so forth.

(Also THEY NEED TO HIRE MORE PSYCHIATRIST SO THEY CAN GET RID OF OLD MAN DR. RAHMEN! HE IS THE EPITOME OF EVIL!)

Hopefully this new CEO will turn this place around….

Honestly if you were here years ago it is definitely different and from the things i have heard the new CEO has a lot of good things in mind for this place but rome wasnt built in a day so I suggest giving the place a chance and waiting it out and see what happens. The new CEO has not been here long and the old person who destroyed the place and didnnt care about patient care is gone so give the place a chance.
