SOUTH, Philadelphia PA

I've been to SOUTH three times for dinner and live music. Every time the music, food and service are beyond good. Highly recommend. Be sure to get the cornbread appetizer. We didn't the first time but haven't made that mistake since.

We had a marvelous dining experience. The food is tasty Southern fare and quite plentiful (I’ll have lunch and/or dinner for a couple of days!).

The music is what we go there to experience, 1st and foremost. My husband, my sister & I are musicians and the music tonight was marvelous. Mr. Joey DiFrancisco and the band were awesome!

Yes, I’m biased! (Our son, Anwar M. Marshall was the drummer tonight?). I have to find the name (s) of the rest of the personnel, but the music was awesome! I had to write this before I forget!

As visitors to Philadelphia, we asked for good places to hear live music. A knowledgeable person told us South was a must-go for jazz. It turns out we went on a night with a ticketed show (usually Thursdays & Fridays — free club Jazz other nights, I think) and the show was sold out. But we stayed for dinner at the bar and were wowed by the upscale take on Southern standards. My husband is still raving about his roast salmon with crawfish stew — even about the rice it came with. Staff were super-friendly. Not a dress-down kind of place, at least the night we went. We’d love to go back in warmer weather to enjoy the outdoor “porch” patio.

Oh, dear God, please bring more jazz to Philadelphia! We went to see Joey DeFrancesco. It was great. The drinks were great. The food was great. The staff were great. Ya think I'ma goin' back? Oh, you bet!

We celebrated my 50th birthday with family and friends and we had the most amazing time definitely our new happy place especially for family gatherings!

I wanted to love this restaurant because of the location and affiliation two other restaurants I love but the service and food was just okay. Best thing for me was the cornbread and deviled eggs. Which are the appetizers.

Great place to listen to jazz, perfect atmosphere and great service.
Food and was disappointing just wasn't good, if your a cool you would understand. I would come back again for the music for sure.

My Sister took me and my other Sister here for our Birthdays. Atmosphere and Music was great Our waitress was Yimme was very nice but overwhelmed and kept forgetting our drinks! The wait was long. Drinks were watered down and barely had liquor in them we had to get shots! I had the Catfish and corn. Catfish was very Salty and corn was too spicy! My Sister had the crab cakes and she couldn’t finish it. My other Sis had the ribs and didn’t finish hers either because the meat was too tough! We all enjoyed our desserts. We also had the crab and avocado toast for appetizer but the bread was stale! We may return for the music but not for dinner. For the price, it’s not worth it and the wait was too long.

Went to a Bridal Shower here on November 13th, 22021 Everything was Beautiful from the Decorations The Food was Delicious. This Place is here to stay

Omg! The entire experience was simply amazing. The decor was beautiful. It seems that it was put together thoughtfully. I mean even the little details. I'm truly a southern girl.so I was able to really appreciate it. My drink "Southern Strawberry Jam" was quite tasty and also photo worthy. We had the deviled eggs and blue crab toast for starters. We also had the salmon, fried chicken, mac and cheese, bread pudding, and sweet potato cheesecake. EVERY single thing was delicious.
The service was also amazing! The manager Michael definitely did a great job at checking to make sure that we were enjoying everything and our server Abel did a great job at making sure that it was a overall great experience. He recommended dishes and was very knowledgeable of the menu.
& Guess what!? ! This place is BLACK OWNED. I didn't know that when I picked this place for dinner but it's definitely great to know and we will definitely be back!

Went here for the first time and I loved everything I got the turkey wings Mac & cheese and deviled eggs every was delicious definitely 10/10
Make reservations they don’t have much room for walk ins we waited an hour for seats but the food made up for it

Overall, we had a great night celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary at SOUTH. Great ambience and jazz set with Kim Waters and Gerald Veasley. For dinner, we had the half fried chicken with creamed collard greens and mashed sweet potatoes. Expected a bit more seasoning for a southern restaurant. Service was good, but check-in for the show was very hectic. Wait time to be seated was about 10 minutes while they cleared the venue from the previous show.

The food was excellent. Customer service was superb, Guy our server was very hospitable. We will be back. Recommend to everyone

Probably one of my favorite restaurants of all time. The food, the service, the atmosphere, everything is always spectacular at SOUTH. In September 2020, I hosted my wedding reception here and it was truly amazing. Despite the uncertainty of the time, literally not even knowing if they’d be able to open back up to host our reception the staff worked with us to plan a lovely, COVID friendly brunch reception. My guests loved the food and drinks and the staff catered to everyone with such care. My husband and I came back to SOUTH to celebrate our 1 year anniversary this year. There was a performance that night and a pre fixed menu. The music was great, and the food and service were top notch as usual. Truly an amazing spot that I recommend to everyone.

Philly is known for is cuisine and jazz speak easy. South Jazz Kitchen does not disappoint. The chef is a master of seasoning! You know chicken is good when you are doing a happy dance eating it cold the next day. The food was delicious and the music was sooo good. We sat right next to the lounge so we could enjoy the vibe and still have meaningful conversation. It was such a relaxing atmosphere of great food, spirited conversation, bayou decor and smooth musical vibe on a Sunday night in Philly. Wasn't excited about the cocktail menu, but the coffee was hot and delicious

Wonderful environment. Beautiful people and place. I would suggest a business casual attire or a more sophisticated look as the staff was dressed to impress. 10/10 for me!
