SPCA of Luzerne County, Wilkes-Barre PA

This past Saturday, I attempted to take a mother cat and 5 babies here and was turned away. Not only was the one guy very rude but he was telling me that a small cat that's on the brink of death that can barely walk, will hunt for food and isn't going to starve. Before he even looked at her condition. They said I had to make an appointment but don't have any availability until the middle of October! But then said someone didn't show up the day before for that same kind of appointment. Well that very same day, after I had no choice but to return said cat and babies to where I got them from, they were rounded up, besides the mother, and dropped off at a local park. Now 2 of those babies are missing. They are separated from their mother. My Point is, if they didn't turn them away, those kittens wouldn't have been dumped. Along with many others, for that matter. I called them multiple times before taking them up there. Left messages and everything. No response at all. Then they had the audacity to ask if I had called. Then asked if I left messages. Then asked if I had any proof of my neighbor not feeding her cat. Like I'm supposed to record them like a creep? Just grasping at straws for an excuse. I have a video of where I found them. That wasn't good enough though. Neither was the condition of the mother cat, skin and bones. Can't produce milk to feed the babies because she doesn't have the energy to eat food, especially hard food. Literally couldn't walk too many steps at a time. She would have been better put down than starving to death! Any time I've had to deal with the luzerne county SPCA, it has not been pleasant! They act like youre a pain or a nuisance. Or that youre the one abusing the animals. Years ago, I had to do 15 hours of community service. I wanted to do it here, but you can only do community service here if you have a DUI charge. Which is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Especially when they're always saying they need help and volunteers. I'm not sure if this is still the policy these days. EDIT: They "couldn't find evidence of animal abandonment" even though I have videos of the babies on their property and the kid straight told them yes that's our kittens that you found at the park. There's also cameras in the park. All of the babies passed away since they were in such bad shape. THEN they gave the mother cat back to this lady after fixing it for her! So not only did they get away with animals abuse/abandonment, they got their freaking cat back! Unreal!

I HAD TO MOVE VIA EVICTION FROM A SCUMMY LAND LORD I THOUGHT I WAS COMING BACK TO PICK MY CATS BUT WAS NOT ALLOWED ON PROPERTY THE LANDLORD THREW MY CATS OUT ONE JUMPED OUT THE SECOND FLOOR THIS WAS WITNESSED BY SOME ONE I CALLED THE SPCA AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO SINCE THEY DIDNT SEE MY CATS WERE HURT AND ABANDONED BY LANDLORD AND ASPCA WONT DO A THING THEY KEEP PUTTING ON A GOOD FACE TO PUBLIC BUT UGLY WHEN YOU NEED HELP

I wouldn't adopt from them. The boss just wants to influx more animals, to strengthen his salary.better off going to bluechip farms. Marge Bart is awesome!

Very organized. But sad so many animals I don't thunk they can fit another animal in. So sad. Beautiful dogs cats etc

Drive 50 minutes to see dogs says opens at 10 00 you get there guy behind the counter says you can't see dog till 12.30.you try to rescue pets n throw you out. Guy was rude n said rules are rules. N walked away feel bad for the pets because it's not there fault. I left empty handed.

Dropped some supplies off for the rescues. They need all the help possible. Took a walk through the kennels and spent some time with the animals.

Adopted two pets from this SPCA, it is filled with amazing animals and great caring staff. The adoption process is easy and straightforward.

My brother's aged beagle was taken to this SPCA for three days when my brother, who lived alone, passed away. A family member came to pick him up, and now he is on his way to his furever home with me in Oklahoma! Thanks to Officer Vickie VanGorder and all the staff who cared for Spunker!

Such wonderful people that work here! Saw an intake while picking up our new cat and all I can say is these people are angels on earth

Just too many pits unfortunately! They’re so sweet but we can’t have them where we live bc of insurance.

Someone got back to me right away about a dog that is up for adoption and they've been very helpful and friendly.

They make it impossible to adopt dogs not worth the stress better off buying.it's sad cause those poor dogs will be with no homes cause they make it not worth the stress.
It's sad how many people get rejected to adopt and end up buying.

Ridiculous

I asked a taller girl with dark hair about a special needs cat, and she was very condescending deterred me from adopting.

I didn’t receive a paw print memorial for my cat when I bought the cremation service. I paid for both, and it seems they simply forgot.

Horrible place that KILLS dogs for space. Office staff is lazy and they don’t even responded to my application. Animals are looking skinny like bones. Just awful place.
