St. James Episcopal Church reviews
7 TL;DR: I'm a non-Christian queer with negative church experiences and this is actually a really good church, I love everyone here. They legitimately care.
Honestly, I'm not even a Christian and this place is fantastic. The liturgical nature of services might not be for everybody (although they are beautiful, I'm a fan), but the community is genuinely wonderful. I've been to quite a few churches in my time and this is literally one of two where it's clear people actually care about you and legitimately don't judge you.
They are LGBTQIA+ friendly and affirming, highly supportive of recovery from addiction, and the clergy as well as the parishioners are incredibly open-minded spiritually/intellectually. As they say here, 'You don't have to check your brains at the door. '
They also have a lot of events throughout the year, including Saturday night music mass, where they play music from popular secular artists throughout music history (I haven't been to one yet but it starts back up in September and I'm way excited).
Whether you're Christian or not: if you just want a good spiritual/intellectual experience (if only in a small way), come to a service or other event here; if you want to help the community in concrete ways, get in touch with people here; no matter what your religious affiliation (yes, even pagans, wiccans, etc), gender, sexual orientation, political views - I have no doubt that you'll be welcome here.:)
Just always be respectful and kind.
Attended an Early Renaissance concert. Acoustics were great! Beautiful building friendly caring staff. Clean restrooms. Most everyone wore masks
This church is nice but it was nicer when it was the needle exchange.what ever happened to that. We need that back
My parents are members of St. James and with my Mother's recent passing, Pastor David Peck did such an amazing job helping to arrange 2 beautiful services due to COVID. One for our family at the church and one for extended family and friends at the Farm at Eagles Ridge. David was so supportive of our entire family and especially with my Mother in her final days. I will never forget his reverence, sincere kindness and his generous support.
A solid, love-filled place to call your church home. We are a married gay couple and we have found much more than acceptance. We have found a church family where we feel comfortable and are able to contribute on many levels to the various ministries. Check it out if you are looking for a new church home.
This church has a graveyard full of 200+ year old gravesides. Very interesting place to visit since it was one of the original 13 colonies.
