Very beautiful church filled with stained glass and iconography. Pastor is very nice. They still have BINGO on Tuesday nights.

St John's Byzantine Catholic Church is a very beautiful church. Underneath the dome are multi colored lights that look so nice when they are lit at night.

St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church (Ruthenian) greets you as you enter/exit Hazleton, PA from the north - the golden cupola being visible from Church Street, PA Route 309. This is the second church and campus in the parish's 100 plus year history. The current structure, built in the 1970s, has evolved over the years and now, as its focal point, an impressive wooden iconostas (icon screen) with gilt highlights draws your attention as soon as you enter the church. This iconostas, so nicely executed, glows warmly when the lights reflect off all of its golden accents. The whole church, in fact, has a very warm feel given its heavy reliance on wood, particularly the ceiling. One might conclude that the architect's intention was to provide a setting similar to that of a Carpathian-Styled Wooden Church that would be similarly trimmed. Suffice it to say, it is a very pleasant setting.

If you visit and all Catholics should be encouraged to do so, say hello to the very friendly pastor and parishioners who will make you feel at home. Ample parking is available across the street and a ramp leads to one of the front doors.

My mother was a congregant of St John's for many years. I am her daughter and live far away; otherwise, I would join this church immediately. Father Jerome is a remarkable, wonderful leader of this parish. He officiated at my mother's funeral service and I came to know him in only a day. He is comforting, humble, caring, compassionate. Most of all, God shines through his being. You discover this as soon as you meet him. There is no denying that he is a vessel delivering the love of God. I was tremendously blessed to know him for that day. I will never forget him and the kindness, caring, and love he delivered to all those present on what was a sad day. He lifts the spirits of all those who are presented to him. Thank you Father, Jerome, for transcending the abundance of God's love.
