Best jewish deli left in the great northeast! From the best begals around (they dont skimp on their toppings from the poppy to onion to sesame you not only get a generous amount they are so flavorful that you cant mix 2 different in 1 bag- as they are made with the strongest, finest ingrediants) to their bakery, cooked meals and salads everything is the best of what used to be in every center in the old days,! Definitly worth driving back into town to get a taste and memory of old northeast philly! (also, they carry fresh seafood that whatever they have may cost a bit more BUT tastes like it was delivered straight from the ocean! Ive tried all the foodstores. Their fresh seafood is beyond!)

We ordered Rosh Hashanah from Steve Stein’s Famous Deli. It was marvelous! Not only was everything fresh & tasty, but everything came in easy to serve from containers. There was so much food that we enjoyed food for days after!
Everyone raved about all the food.

I used to love this place. But it's dirty and staff are totally disconnected from what a great Jewish Deli should be. The guy cutting my deli Meats was stoned out of his mind. And if you look inside the glass front refrigerated meat display units, you can see dirt from months of not being cleaned. Not sure why the health department hasn't fined them yet or shut them down.

If the front of the house is this filthy I would hate to see the back of the house. Seriously. As with other reviewers who have mentioned the lack of cleanliness I expect the same canned response from the owner. "We strive to do better blah blah blah. " He should be ashamed of himself and his team to serve food in such a disgusting environment. There is no chance this place would pass inspection from the Philadelphia Department of Public Health - nor should it. 100% do not recommend.

I rarely write a review, but felt I must base on my recent experience with what used to be a city favorite, has sadly turned. While I am a business owner myself, I understand how impactful reviews can be, but I also feel it's important to share experiences such as this. I honestly don't know how this restaurant is still operating. The level of disarray is extremely obvious and I feel the conditions are unhealthy/unsafe for food service. While the young staff are kind and courteous, it's a shame the service gets lost amongst the terrible state of this once beloved restaurant.

Went there today and the service absolutely dreadful. Ask for more creamers for our and the waitress wouldn't give us enough, so I had to go to their refrigerator area and get half and half.
Also we ordered Nova Lox and smoked salmon bagels and there was hardly any fish or cream cheese on it. On top of that the play was filthy dirty!
Never going there ever again! Should have went to Ben & Irves!
This place use to be good. Shame how bad it is now!

The food remains delicious as always, but the last two times that I brought my family to the restaurant, I was embarrassed by the dirty floors, sticky tables and poor service. Yuk!

On 8/11 we visited to see what they have. To see what people are raving about. I couldn't believe the dirty and very sticky floor. I couldn't tell if the oder was from bad meat or what. The tables in the restaurant area were full of dirty plates. Was not what I was expecting to find after reading the rave reviews. Probably won't go back.

Not only is the food good-they even offer gluten free- the people are great! Lee went above and beyond and delivered a beautiful shiva tray to center city for me!

Famous Deli is the best place in Northeast Philadelphia for all your Jewish style foods. Corn beef, Roast Beef, Roast Turkey, Pastrami, deli sliced cheeses. Knishes, Blintzes, if you can’t get to the store, they deliver. Check them out on Facebook.

This is the very best deli in all of Philly! Spectacular food and service from all who work there especially Steve himself and his son Lee. Their party platters are fabulous.

In a time where restaurants are ready to jump ship, Steve Stein's Famous Deli & Restaurant on Grant Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia continues to thrive. And there are several reasons, the main one being real deli and cooked to order items that never disappoints and is always consistent. This is a place that continues to give this community options for breakfast, lunch and the holidays with sit down and takeout available with a market and busy counter area. The sandwiches are plentiful, the salads are fresh and the continue folks stay loyal to this local landmark.

Famous Deli is so wonderful. They are a neighborhood icon for a reason. And that reason is customer service. They kept us and many others going in the beginning of the pandemic. Their food is delicious and I am so grateful to them for their care for their customers.
Every family holiday is celebrated with a famous tray in our family. They work so hard and their quality never changes. I love Famous Deli!
