Stewart's Crossing Campground & Adirondack Shelters reviews
11The trail and playground and picnic area and the yough river where u can go fishing and boating and swimming
Well maintained, overnight, camp area. 4 Adirondecks with hammack hooks.nice town, people and stores.
Standard hiker biker campground with proper facilities that are free and accessible from the road and trail. There's 4 shelters, each with a covered picnic table and grill. Room to pitch tents is also available. Restrooms facilities are a waterless toilet facility that also has a urinal. Water is provided year round via a fountain near the campsites
Dry and quality! Mile marker 88 along the 150-mile #GAPtrail.
There are four free shelters first come first serve, sign in books in each. Roomy enough to hold about 7-10 ppl depending on how you fit everyone inside or if you put up tents inside the shelter (actually confuses me, why not just tent outside the shelter and let others use the space)
Great shelter. Well built. Protects from the wind and rain fairly well. Convenient location close to the GAP trail and martins grocery store. Toilets are clean as well
The good is that these shelters are sturdy, free, and really convenient for touring cyclists. The bad is that they are at the entrance of a public park which means people are constantly walking into your campsite, playing Pokemon Go and taking pictures of the view of the water.
One of the best free on-trail campsites I've come across, and I've biked across the USA. Covered shelters are very convenient. 24/7 supermarket nearby. I very much enjoyed my stay here.
Close to the trail, close to the 24hr Giant Grocery Store, and the shelters are is such great condition.
Great campsite in yough park. Great swimming spot in the river where there is the big rock and nice to have a grocery store next to you.
The shelters are well built and in a convenient location, right next to the trail. The shelters are oriented with the open side facing the rising sun. Be prepared for a sunrise wake-up. The train noise is pretty constant, but if you're using these shelters you've probably been on the trail for a day or more, and you're probably getting used to the train noise. A flushing toilet and shower would have been worth paying for.
YMMV, but we had a good experience despite the trail-hobos that were staying in the shelter next to ours. (It's a trail, keep your belongings close and sleep lightly. Also, travel with a friend.)
