A tranquil and bucolic landscape with willow trees, grass, picnic tables and shallow river water. Nice spot to fish. Went on a weekday and almost no one there. Probably packed on weekends.

I always see people fishing here, but it is a beautiful unexpected sight when you come across it

You're looking to do some fishing and you don't care about catching a lot of fish then its still good. I'm 21 and been fishing there over ten years and its been going down hill since I started. Great place to take your kids to get them into fishing and if you like there are hiking trails all around the area.

Crowded, tight parking. No dedicated boat launch has boaters interrupting fishers. Need some paint and maintenance.

This is a great place to trail run. From the Stilling basin to the State hill red. Boat launch and back is a challenging 5 miles. The trails have been worked. Much flatter last year there were huge ruts made it a little tricky. So maintenance on the trail was excellent. So whether you run it, or just hike, or fish at the stilling basin do it, you out in nature and taking advantage of one of berks counties gifts.

The Stilling Basin in my usual entrance for Blue Marsh Lake. It eventually connects to the boat ramps on the other side (the one off of Brownsville Road closer to Ganly's). While there can be a lot of people here in nice weather, it seems to me to be less crowded than some of the other lots. The trails are beautiful and a bit of a workout. I wouldn't suggest this area to start if you have trouble with hills. You can also take some trails toward the right that end up behind the dam, but most of it back there ends up being "do not enter" areas so you will eventually have to turn back toward the large field. There are always lots of people here fishing, so it seems to be a good spot if that's what you're looking for. There are picnic benches, too, and a port-a-potty. There are often people with mountain bikes here, too, so be aware that they can come down the path pretty quickly sometimes and there are areas where it's a tight squeeze.

I've also been there for a visit, walked that trail and enjoyed every hour of it, my favorite place to be if I don't choose to take the bike out. If you have young kids and they like to fish, that's the place to be. They have a portable (clean) toilets, grills for your out door cooking and of course pick nick tables. Watch the water come out of the lake relief pipe AWESOME.
