Tennis Essentials reviews
6Best tennis store I have been to in a long time! LOVE this store! The customer service is like no other. With Carmine's expertise in all things tennis - from the racket, to the sneakers, and even the tennis racket grip - I was really able to up my game. You won't regret going here for everything tennis related!
I went here after reading the posts. But was very disappointed to speak with this person at the store who was not helpful at all. Would not go back. Would recommend not going here.
Carmine is wonderful! I’m so glad my friend told me to come here. I love this store! Great, friendly, knowledgeable service! Can’t ask for more
If I could've given this place a 0, I would have or even a negative number. They were the absolute worst business I have ever tried in my entire life. They are a small tennis shop located in Berwyn PA (family run). I decided to give them a try with racquet stringing job. I used to play alot of competitive tennis over the years and have had many different string jobs, so I have alot of experience. When i brought the racquet in to be strung, i discussed the tension, the strings and when the racquet would be ready. They told me to come of the weekend to pick it up and the job would cost $40.
When i went to pick up the racquet, the father was there (not the son who took the original order). I asked him what the racquet was strung at and was told it was a lower tension that what I initially discussed. I also asked why the label wasn't placed on the racquet (something which all stringers do to note the tension, date of stringing and type of string). He said he kept the information in his computer. Bad response. I told him i would try the racquet out and if i wasn't happy with it would return it to be redone.he was argumentative and talked over me. My friend was with me in the store and heard the entire conversation. I knew then that this place was trouble.
After that, i went to the courts to try the racquet out. I heard some rattling at thought it was the dampener at first. Then, i looked closely at the racquet and saw that he broke the grommets. He never mentioned this when i picked up the racquet. I went back to the store today to ask him about this. His son was back in there this time. He looked at me and shook his head and said "they didn't break the grommets". One thing that I really dislike is when someone lies directly to my face. I said to him "did I bring in the racquet with broken grommets". His answer was "it's an old racquet". I told him I needed it repaired and if they couldn't make it right, then I would dispute the charge. He got angry and the conversation escalated to the point where he said he would call 911 and have me cited for trespassing.
Absolutely unbelievable and unprofessional behaviour from anybody doing business with the public! I came home and already disputed the charge as I'll have to bring my racquet to a reputable stringer to have it redone and now have the broken grommets fixed. I wanted to leave this review so others would know just how terrible the experience was with Tennis Essentials in Berwyn, PA. Note, that there are alot of very good tennis stringers out there who know what they're doing and know how to treat customers. Don't go here because they are convenient. Drive a little further to get good quality service. That's the mistake I made.
Great small business! Just the type of neighborhood store you love to support. Friendly customer focused owner who goes out of his way to ensure his clients are happy. Knowledgeable and practical about all tennis equipment sold and does not pressure the upsell. Prices on latest equipment is in line with online competitors which surprised me. Good sales on old stock if you are looking for a bargain and can tolerate an older version of something. Stringing is reasonable, fast and done right the first time.
