Cakes were pretty good, but it’s very small and cramped when busy and the line moves painfully slowly.

Beautiful old building, very pleasant assortment of pastries and coffee bar drinks, but maybe a bit too expensive for what you receive at first blush. But when you consider the trendy edge Lawrenceville has and the unique and tasty options the little cafe offers- it seems fair. And when it comes to their cakes, both classic and vegan.the price almost seems a steal, since these are some of the best cakes I've ever tried, and there are an endless array of unique and sometimes exotic flavor combinations.

My wife goes out of her way when we go out, the seldom times we are afforded a night without the little one, to enjoy the rotating options and sit on the cute outdoor patio area in back.

Atmosphere is nice but service is bad and chairs (the red ones) are sunken. Cake is eatable but nothing impressive. I asked for Splenda they didn’t have. She gave me sugar in a glass cup and it spread all over the table. I asked for ceramic cups for my tea she said we don’t have anymore they are in the washer. Well, get more cups for customers so they don’t have to wait on your washer!

This was a great little find after dinner. Had some seating to sit back and relax with a great piece of dessert or some coffee. The cake was moist and delicious. Will be back for sure.

I love this bakery! Atmosphere is relaxed. They are open late, til 11pm. It's a great spot to grab dessert after dinner someplace else or after being out on the town. Everything I've ever had here was excellent. They have a nice coffee menu and tea options. The dessert case is full of double layer cakes, tea cakes, brownies and more! They have a nac for combining natural, floral and savory flavors with the traditional pastry flavors we all love. They have vegan and gluten free options. On my recent trip I had the Lavender Orange Love Cake, which was superb. My mom has the blueberry tea cake, which she said was really good. And there is a paid parking lot right next door!

Living in the eastern suburbs, I rarely get to make it to Butterwood, but it is definitely my favorite bakery in the city.

Unique flavors and excellent craftsmanship make the baked goods a whole experience.

The woman who was working on 2/4 did an INCREDIBLE job. I arrived with my party of 4 around 715, and stayed until 9. She had a line extending almost the entire length of the shop the entire night. I did not once see her lose patience or her smile with customers. She maintained such professionalism despite non-stop service. Please, please give her a raise.

They are open until late and the quality is top notch. It was very crowded Friday evening with a long line but it worths the wait. Everyone should try their cake slices.

This cafe has an exquisite upholstery featuring the Victorian era. The owner has a strong and delicate taste in decoration.
Blood orange cake with fig buttercream is amazing. Not too sweet but just enough to light up your tasting buds.
Double shot espresso is a bit miss. It’s not as strong as I expect it should be.

Worth every penny! We ordered the lavender blood orange honey cream cake, the raspberry rose cream cake, butterscotch pudding and a cappuccino if you wanna feel super fancy, go here!

Such a cute little spot. Not huge inside, but big enough to eat in if you don't visit during peak hours. I tried a frosted brownie (fudgy and rich) and the lemon rosemary cake (light, fluffy, flavorful). Highly recommend!

Amazing dessert place with very delicious aromatic cakes such as blood orange sesame cake with fig buttercream (sounds weird but it is delicious) and lavender cake. Good cappuccino too! Only place around in Pittsburgh for late night coffee lovers!

Very rude front counter worker and music was not a welcoming environment. I will not be returning for how much I paid for my order.

This place is amazing and I literally want to tell everyone about it. The baked goods are beautiful and tasty, the coffee is so smooth, the decorations are cozy, the staff are all sweet, and it's overall a wonderful place. And the hours are fantastic! I haven't been able to find anywhere else in Pittsburgh that I can get coffee and study so late into the evening. Please don't change!

Nice dine in experience and beautiful cakes, but the textures are off. The blondie was heavy and hard like a brick and very dense (difficult to tear a piece off). It had undissolved sugar granules. Frosting is stiff and dense as if the butter wasn’t creamed enough. Flavors are good though.

The ambiance is wonderful but the prices are high for what you get. I got a tiny but tasty pastry for the cost of a full size pie ($6).

The cutest, victorian styled bakery ever! Such a neat vibe inside with dried flowers on some desserts. We got lavender, orange cake slice and pumpkin cake slice. Both of which were moist, with unique flavors and soft vegan icing. Worth the price. Super friendly man behind the counter.

Amazing place to go for late night pastries, a spot of tea or coffee, and vintage vibes. Good vegan options too.

One of our best finds to come out of COVID. Unique and tasty goodies and coffee. So glad when seating inside opened back up. Cozy, eclectic atmosphere. Absolutely love they're open late. Nice to have an option other than a bar to hang late.

Best bakery in town with vegan options! Everything is great and they have fun, rotating flavors you're not going to see at other bakeries anytime soon. Love that it's open late night, too. Who wants cake at 8am? Not me, give me that 10pm slice:)
