My mom was here for a total of 4.5 hours. The reason for her stay was the rehab facility option, not long term care. During that time she didn’t want to stay and I had to speak with other family members before a final decision was made to leave.

The reasons for checking out of the rehab facility:
1. Smelled awful upon walking in
2. When entering the designated room for my mom
-she had two other roommates
-it was very dark
-room smelled of strong urine
-bathroom smelled even stronger of urine (I couldn’t even breathe in there). I would want college dorm shower shoes before I would even think about taking a shower there
3. No bed rails. I asked for them. I was told that they would put pillows on the floor in case my mom fell out of bed.
4. People were very grumpy
5. I walked down the halls and didn’t see anywhere to do PT. There was no room or equipment
6. My Mom wasn’t speaking & her demeanor had shifted in a negative way…If my kids would leave me in a place like that, I would disown them for doing so. I would have been an awful daughter leaving my mom in those conditions. My mom said she could tough it out for a day or two if she had to. I asked her if she wanted to leave. She said yes.
7. My brother was there for dinner with our mom. He used the bathroom that was available to all residents and visitors. He said there was poop on the seat and the bathroom was gross. He agreed with me that our mom shouldn’t be left there.
8. My daughter works in coordination with CPS and APS. She went back with me to get her grandma. She was disgusted with the smell and agreed grandma shouldn’t stay there.
9. One of the employees asked me if I needed any help. I said, “No we are leaving. ” She said, “ You mean leaving, leaving? ” I said, yes. She said, “I don’t blame you. ”
10. As we were leaving a resident was trying to do something that required a one person assist, like stand up or go the bathroom. One of the employees said, “Don’t do that or you will fall. ” The resident responded by saying, “I do it by myself every other night. Why do you guys pick and choose when you’re going to help me? ”

Upon stating that my mom wanted to leave, the director asked why? I stated about the bed rails and pillows was the remedy given. He said they would use furniture or something like that as “bumpers”. It still wasn’t enough to feel safe leaving my mom there since she has a history of stokes. Hitting her head is of great concern. I appreciate the attempt to make it acceptable for my mom, but it just wasn’t enough. On a positive note…my mom did have dinner while there and said it tasted good. The downside is she is diabetic and there wasn’t options to support dietary restrictions.

What the building lacks in appearance, the staff make up for in heart. Especially the director of nursing. She is always so kind and goes above and beyond.

TIP O THE HAT for the overworked understaffed nurses and aides there Erford Rd are highly regarded! Not so much for managers who cleverly masquerade as the servants they are to the bottom line max profit, minimally required care buisness model. I see it all. I could write more! "Callin it your job ole hoss sure dont make it right, if you want i'll say a prayer for ur soul tonight"

Rachel Costa, the Director of Nursing, cultivates the soil of the culture, plants seeds of affirmation, waters the soul, encourages and carefully tends to its growth, and makes every individual aware of their special place in the garden at The Gardens.

Of course nursing homes get a bad reputation most of the time but that does not mean they are all around bad. Nursing home experiences are going to be different from person to person. You can provide excellent service, but people will find something to be upset or complain about. It’s life. However, there are staff at the gardens at camp hill that do an excellent job and deserve more recognition. I have been to the building on numerous occasions through out the past few years and I have encountered many many nice staff. Even residents are willing to stop and say hello, and hold a friendly conversation.
I had a great experience with the nurse Lorraine. She is always smiling, laughing and very knowledgeable when it comes to different residents.
I’ve seen residents having a good time and doing numerous fun activities. I’ve been checking out the Facebook page and all the residents appear to be having a good time.
Tracey on first floor also deserves recognition for her friendly and positive attitude.
The list could go on but I do not know many names but the managers, nurses, residents all seem like a big family overall and I’ve never had a bad experience coming to this facility.

I’ve enjoyed working at the gardens. The residents and staff are like a big family. The nurses do their best to provide the best care possible for the residents here. The residents enjoy doing fun activities and spending time socializing with each other and the staff.

Centrally located, easy access from the freeways, and full of opportunity. I have see many people receive great care alongside clinical teams as Business Office Manager. I've see post acute care success and custodial care provided. I've see people with involved families, and I've seen wards of the state receive. Patient rights are followed and problems are dealt with quickly. We look forward to the opportunity for partnering in your care.

The housekeeping supervisor is very attentive to not only the sanitation of the facility but also with the residence who reside there. In my short visit to the facility the staff seemed very family like which I think is needed LTC facilities. Keep up the good work Gardens of Camp Hill
