The King of Shave reviews
8This place is great. Gene is so nice and knew exactly how to cut my hair based off of my bad description of what I wanted. The best cut I've had in Philly!
Easy to book my appointment on Booksy. I travel for work and always rely on reviews to help me select a barber. Gene gave me a very precise cut, and delivered exactly what I asked for. One of the best barbers I’ve experienced, I couldn’t be happier!
Gene Gallagher is one of the first barbers I've frequented who "got it" on the first visit. My hair looked great after a visit which included machinations solving every one of the world's problems, and comparisons of notes on our favorite restaurants. Since then, I continue to get positive comments from friend and stranger alike, including hairstylist friends who've worked at Philadelphia's leading salons of today and yesteryear.
The shoppe is meticulously appointed with furnishings and artifacts both genuine and reproduced, without an ounce of pretension. Diego, master barber and owner keeps a tight ship running smoothly with the perfect soundtrack of tango music which transports you to the tanguerias of Cuba and his native South America (Argentina?)
It is with sincere and fond regards that I submit this review without hesitation or solicitation.

I normally never leave reviews, especially because my first experience here was fantastic but this was awful. I sadly did not get the same barber as the first time and I was totally okay with that. However my barber was not only lazy but completely did something I did not ask for. He sat down for 90% of the hair cut which I thought was weird but I could’ve looked past that. But I showed him a picture of what I wanted, a cut that I have gotten before, he expressed that we should try going longer than the picture and I agreed with him, once we got towards the end I realized it was way too short and he realized it as well. Instead of apologizing and going shorter than the picture he tried to blame me and said “I told you it was going to be to short” and kept repeating it the whole last 5 minutes when he and I both agreed to go longer than the picture. For example I have very curly hair, I told him I wanted to keep the top curly, I now have no curls, almost a buzz cut. The fact that he tried to blame me and make me feel worse than I already did with a terrible haircut is what did it for me. I feel sorry for the other barber and owner because they are very nice people and I enjoyed my first visit but this was too much.
I have been a customer here for a couple of months now. I always shave with Gene, he is great! The price is affordable and the service is always excellent. Highly recommend this place
Went here on the recommendation of a friend. Gene was absolutely fantastic and gave a great cut for a good price. His shop was a neat little spot and it was also nice that he takes reservations as well.
Shave was amazing and the barbers there and personable and very funny! Next time I'm in Philly and am in need of a shave/cut, I'm coming here!
Actually came here on advice from another barbershop who had a full schedule. Lucked up and found one last minute opening with Gene. He was fantastic to chat with and the cut looks great! Glad I came here.
