The Olde Bar reviews
16Some of the food was great especially the garlic old bay French fries the crab cakes were small for $29.00 for 3 quarter size servings also there were crab cartilage pieces in the crab cakes was unable to eat all it due to the cartilage. The prices are way too high especially for alcoholic drinks. For what I paid I expected highly more for the meal than what I was given.
Food was not good, portions were very small and very expensive. We got the lobster risotto, the lobster was not fresh at all, and flavor was poor. Also got the cod fish, very small portion, and we didn’t like the flavor as well. Restaurant also lacks ambiance. The only thing I liked was the service.
Literally perfect in my opinion. Food excellent & available late. Outstanding beverage list & spirits. GREAT service. Music brilliant and well-curated by a real connoisseur. Seriously, if you're not having a good time here, we can't get along.
Drinks were good. Atmosphere was good. Staff were confused. They didn’t know if they should seat us or let us stand at the bar. Then, after we sat at a table, no one came to serve us. When we asked them how service works at the Old Bar, they said “they were confused” how we wanted to be served. Restaurant staff should should always make customers feel welcome. We said we just wanted to enjoy a drink to which the employee said he was clocking out (but he didn’t). A new server stepped in and in the end we enjoyed our time at the Old Bar.
The service staff was friendly and well meaning but oddly inept. Didn’t know the kinds of oysters they had by name, in an empty restaurant put us right next to the kitchen! Food was ok but not distinctive and over complicated. The room feels bare and empty— maybe a style Choice but just feels sparse
Food was fantastic, the seafood was clearly the freshest available. Yes, it's a bit expensive but for a special occasion, it's an obvious choice. The only issue, and it was a small one, was that our table was wobbly so we had to be careful with our drinks. It was a delightful time overall though
Went for happy hour, also tried a lobster roll. Expected the house punch to to be a lot better since it was a menu staple. Oysters were good, everything else was just alright. Great location, dusty little red interior.
What a great experience. Me and two friends rolled in for a Sunday drink and snacks and came away very satisfied. Service was good, cocktails exceptional, and the seafood tower was delicious. Really loved the combination of east and west coast oysters alongside briny clams. Definitely will be back!
All I can say is wow! The best food I've ever had and the best service I've ever experience. My boyfriend took me here to celebrate my birthday while in town for a wedding and they all made sure to come to our table to wish me a happy birthday (not all at once, but as they were walking past). Our server Janelle was absolutely amazing, she was professional, friendly and made sure our experience and my birthday was phenomenal. We ordered the crab fingers, shrimp cocktail, salmon spread for appetizers (we couldn't choose and wanted to try them all) for the meal we had jeff's fried chicken and i forget what my boyfriend had but lol it was the best tasting food we've had in a long time. The drinks were even better! We look forward to going here again whenever we're in town.
This place was recommended by staff from Independence Park Hotel as a great place for seafood. We had crab fingers, warm lobster salad, steak fries, and pork chops. Delicious with perfectly sized portions.
Amazing experience, atmosphere, and the food was delicious. I’m in town for work and found this wonderful place. I ordered the east coast oysters and tamarind lobster and I can’t recommend enough! They accommodated my dairy, gluten and egg allergies. I also don’t drink and the bar tender, Steve made me an incredible mocktail! Highly recommend.
My lobster was fantastic! However, this place is over priced for what you get. The shrimp cocktail was $17 for 5 tiny shrimp.
Overall we had a nice time and would probably go back but wouldn’t be at the top of our list for the area.
Excellent! I ate here 5 out of the 6 nights I stayed across the street. Most of the bartenders make a good Old Fashion, which I get with Makers. Lobster Bisque and Lobster Roll were both outstanding. I had those two more times then I’d like to admit, however, they were well worth it. The Glazed Tamarind Lobster dish was not my favorite, very different. Overall, the experience here was top notch and I will be back on the next trip to Philly.
Took mom and dad to Bookbinder's in Philly. They made it a part of road trip to celebrate their life. Their both 80+ years old. The food was exceptional and the service by Margaux was fantastic. Leah, was awesome too. The dessert was so very delicious. Everything came together for a perfect evening.
Stumbled upon this place on a walk with my boyfriend with no plans to eat or drink. The place was so cute, cozy and inviting we couldn’t help but get drawn in.
Great drinks, great food and the staff was even better. Plan to make this our “cheers” bar.
Special shout-out to Leah the manager and Tom the bartender!
Food suggestions: Jeff’s fried chicken & the fish special with black lentils & garlicky kale
Cute seafood dinner spot. The atmosphere was very nice. Not super loud even though it was a busy Saturday night! I would recommend reserving ahead of time. I had the fried shrimp Po boy special which was yummy but the roll was too soft and buttery (sounds silly I know but it really was). Buffalo cauliflower was also OK, probably wouldn't order again but only because I was expecting it to be breaded. Our server Janelle was very sweet. My friends had a variety of oysters and mussels and they loved them!
