The Stourbridge Line Train Excursions reviews
18Fun Train ride for all ages on board historic train cars. Your wait time will depend on when you arrive and the status of your train.
Had a great experience on a beautiful day. Had an informative guide, but couldn't hear everything so maybe if he had a megaphone or microphone it would have been easier to hear. Will do one of their excursions later this year.
It was definitely a nice experience. Plenty of wildlife seen in this ride. Weather was perfect and helped a lot. Even saw a bald eagle. But the staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. There is a restroom on the train incase you wondered.
Great little trip. The conductor spent most of the trip out talking about the interesting facts about the train line. It's helpful that they have the passengers switch sides for the ride back so you don't feel like you miss anything.
We took the kids on the Easter Express. What a good time. They have an Easter egg hunt, they put alot of empty eggs in one area the kids fill their baskets then dump the eggs into a barrel. After they dump them they get a prize. Pictures with the bunny train ride was alot of fun and beautiful scenery. Definitely going on another.
What can I say.very cool experience. It's relaxing and enjoyable and I love saying I've ridden a classic train! Definitely something you should do.
Not exactly what I expected. The Train ride is not at all scenic.passing thru towns scattered with garbage and graffiti. There was no entertainment on the train for children as on the Polar express. Did not eve hand out a small piece of candy! Bunny should have been on the train not sitting under a tent in a field.he should have been interacting with the children not just sitting glumly! Would also have been nice to have a small drink and snack shed to purchase items for hungry and thirsty children. I would not recommend this train ride for any season.
Sorry but you need to step up your game.
The passenger cars are beautifully restored and give you a taste of what rail travel was like 75 years ago. There is no narration, but that didn't take away from the experience - the whole point is to sit back, listen to the clickety-clack as you roll down the tracks, and soak in the ambiance of being on a historic train. This is a great activity for families or even just a significant other. (Tip: I recommend riding to the end of the line at Lackawaxen. The best views of the river are between Hawley and Lackawaxen - the scenery between Honesdale and Hawley wasn't quite as interesting).
We finally rode the Stourbridge! Thoroughly enjoyed both the scenery and the crew. Fall foliage run would be our next choice!
Jeff and all of the conductors were hands on knowledgeable, very friendly and professional. Great scenic ride in old town Honesdale. For me, just a wonderful experience. Will be back in the spring
2022 Update: The Santa train was so fun! The train stayed at the Christmas village, which was much appreciated considering the freezing temps. This is definately a yearly tradition for our family.
2021: Santa train was great! A slow journey out and back, but my two year old loved it! The little extras (hot chocolate, candy cane, ornaments) were a nice treat.
The train ride was just long enough to hold the interest of a 4 yr old and a 10 yr old. It was a lot of fun visiting the tree farm and seeing Santa, Mrs. Claus and all the helpers. The kids had a blast. My 4 yr old grandson has discovered he loves trains!
The experience was fun but wasn’t as impressive as I was expecting—confusion about numbered cars and seats with no one to assist, terrible bathroom, a large part of the ride was through a dilapidated industrial area and less scenic, train definitely could use an update and finer decorations than pasted holiday stickers. The cocoa was nice and friendly folks
Pros: People were all very engaging and nice
Bah-Humbug: $125 Xmas trees?
Price of the Xmas trees killed the holiday spirit. Ruined an otherwise great day.
We took the fall foliage express this weekend (oct 29,2022) and noticed that all the people of color (mainly Indians and Asian folks) were primarily asked to sit in Compartment 3 & some in 4 probably but hardly any in the first two. I’m unable to shake off this thought. It’s surprising that no one has noticed this before or hasn’t mentioned this in the reviews. I wouldn’t recommend this train ride.
The view was spectacular. Wear light if you get to sweat easily because the train has heat which we think a bit too much. And book the tickets online in advance because the tickets were sold out when we were there.
Not very scenic. The owner has rented out the track to several businesses so we couldn't complete our trip because someone else was using the track. The conductor was knowledgeable which is the only thing that was enjoyable.
This review is for the fall foilage scenic train ride.
Pros: Great, old fashioned trains. The windows open on the train. Staff were very nice and knowledgeable. Large parking lot. Clean bathrooms (but very small). Tickets were not expensive. Long ride through the woods allowing you to see the river and wildlife.
Con: The constant smell of burning diesel is very unpleasant. Gave me quite the headache.
