Timbuctu African Hairbraiding, Philadelphia PA

I called yesterday and was told that I could be there in 20 min. I got there only to find a nice gentleman who barely spoke English, told me they were closed. He called the lady and then opened the salon next door up some raggedy steps and in this makeshift salon that was just a dirty room. I waited ALONE for over an hour. She called once to say she'd be there in 20 min.then she called to say she nor her niece could make it! Oh and could I come back tomorrow? When I said no she hung up on me! TOTAL DUMP AND UNPROFESSIONAL! CLEAN UP YOUR FAKE ESTABLISHMENT!

I hated my experience here. For starters, she braided my edges after I instructed her not to. I had to take the braids out as they were too tight on my hairline. I couldn’t move my eyebrows or even bend over without hurting. I have also lost a significant amount of hair around my edges/hairline. I asked her to leave enough hair for my barber to braid and she left nothing. Even after taking the braids out, I’m still in pain. In all honesty, she ripped my hair out. She even said that the hair was “too short” and still decided to braid it even though it was clearly NOT MEANT TO BE BRAIDED. I spent a year growing my hair out and now my hairline is patchy and swollen after only 3 DAYS! I SPENT $100 AND IT WAS ALL FOR NOTHING! SAVE YOUR MONEY AND DO NOT COME HERE!

The worst I used to go there to get my hair done an it was nice so I went back an things change my head was to long when I ask for it to be short they don't listen they just do what they want I will never go back there again the stairway stinks when you come in the store smells worst than the steps don't waste your time or money that is very greedy for a buck an she will do your hair what ever way she wants

I went there yesterday and boy did I make a huge mistake. First off when you go in there to use the restroom they tell you to put the tissue in a basket. Then when the girl started working on my hair she had an attitude and and was snatching my head and speaking to me as if I were one of her 5 kids she had running around in there. Then she kept reprimanding me for looking at the mirror. She put micros around the front on my head a d huge boxes all way around. My son came up in there and asked why they didn’t do my hair right and they asked for payment (180) then refused to braid it down. They threatened to cut my son with a pair of scissors. We ended up getting our money back but please don’t do business here they’re unskilled, unprofessional, ghetto, and flat out dangerous!

I came to this hair salon this morning to get my hair done at the salon person told me the day before when I called to book my appointment that they did not take appointments to be there at 7: 30 because that’s when they open. I got there at 7 and the salon was not open and I sat in my car for about 10 minutes before the salon was open then when the salon was open I could not tell that it was the salon so I was sitting outside waiting some more after that I finally got out the car and was like let me go check to see if this is the salon that was the salon I went upstairs to speak with the lady to see what my price would be for my hair told her I had to move my car took me less than five minutes to move my car I came back and she had someone sitting in the seat then had me wait an hour for someone else to come and do my hair that other person came started my hair and did not finish it she went and start someone else’s hair when someone else came so I had two people in my hair and I had one person that gave my spot away to someone else for moving my car remind you guys this is the hair braiding store is on fifth Street. I sat there and waited to get my hair done got my hair done and it was not what I expected my braids looks fuzzy they do not look neat highly disappointed and I would not recommend is please please do not go there to get your hair done they try to do too many hairs at once and the shop is not that big

I had an appointment at 9am and they finally started doing my hair at 2pm. To make matters worse they made my Senegalese twists much bigger than I wanted them to be causing me to have to purchase another packet of hair during the appointment. It has only been a week and my twists are unraveling and they braided the ends of my twists. If I could give this place a zero I would. I strongly do not recommend coming here especially if you want Senegalese twists.

The shop was clean, and the women that did my hair was very nice, she gave me a longer braids for the long wait and she works very fast. My head didnt hurt at all the following day. Excellent!

I went to this braid shop because of the hairstyles I've seen on other customers. I must say I am extremely disappointed. The women were kind of rude and one even raised her voice at me. I was told to dit in one chair and was chastised for sitting there. Then one person started to braid my hair and said another person would finish. However, the first person left me and braided a walk in customer. My knot less braids are not close at all. I see lots of my scalp and the person even gave me the wrong color until I corrected her. I was asked twice and I advised I wanted my colors mixed.
I was charged 180.00 for a substandard job.
I should have walked out.
I'll never return.

The service was very good. It only took me 3.5 hours to get knotless box braids. The braids were done nicely and I definitely will be returning.

Worst African shop I’ve been to. Not only did their young niece try to fight me and another lady in.but one of your stylist kept crying out loud while she was doing someone else’s hair. I asked for butterfly locs.even sent a picture before I drove a hour down there and still got a style that wasn’t even close to what I asked for. Furthermore.the lady braided my base so tight that when she stick the crochet tool through my hair it was painful and pulled on my hair and scalp. When I told her about it she just continued to snatch the tool through my hair I was almost in tears. I was suppose to pay 250 they have me a $50 discount after their niece tried to attack me but overall I paid for a style I didn’t want. I had the locs in for 6 days they’re already falling apart.

Excellent braiding shop! The owner is very sweet and professional. Any issues within reason they are always will to help and accommodate their customers. I've been coming here since I was a teen and the service has always been good. I even bring my daughter here now.

They told me that they can do the passion twist charge me $200 not including the $20 tip I gave and it only lasted a week she told me to come back and she would give me a discount but took $40 off a $200 hair style sorry I’m good I will not be giving y’all $380 in 2weeks I’ll pass never again I’m done with them on to the next Place ‍️

I've have been coming to Timbuktu consistently for just about 10 years now. I’m always complimented on my braids. The owner Kady and all of the staff are very skilled, professional and accommodating. The salon is always well kept and comforting.

She was very nice did such a great job on my hair I’m very happy with the way it came out and will be coming back I highly recommend them ️

First time and They did a great job on my knot less braids I will definitely be going back.they were very professional and courteous to the fact that I was seven months pregnant, getting my head done quickly

I called and my sister told me to come right in, my hair was done and looking good in 3 hours, first time getting knotless braids I love them.
