Tommy DiNic’s reviews
15I had the pork sandwich with provolone and sweet roasted peppers…the best sandwich ever? Definitely not. It was ok, but that’s it. According to web sites and reviews, I was expecting a lot more.
At Philly for the weekend, this is my quick review series of food places I have visited. This is one of the places highly recommended at the Reading Terminal Market. The line was about 30 people long at lunch time, but it moved quickly and in about 10 minutes we had our order. I got the Roast Pork sandwich, with spicy peppers, onions and cheese (as recommended by locals). We brought it back to the hotel and noticed they didn't put cheese or onions/scallions, so a bit disappointed I didn't get to try it fully loaded. The meat was flavorful, but certainly it was lacking"something" (I would've put some mustard but didn't see they offer it). Might come back again to try other items like the Brisket.
Since my of my friends have recommended this location and their Roast Pork Sandwich, even not unanimously, I still want to give a shot. I was not disappointed but not impressed either.
The sandwich, I should say hoagie, is fully loaded with beautifully sliced pork. The amount of meat is absolutely generous! However, the flavor is just not there. It is basically mild, I can almost say bland, not just a lack of layers of flavor, but also a lack of salt in general.
The bread is fine. Toasted with a nice crust but still soft inside. The second half of the hoagie has a bit soggy bread, which is common, and shows how juicy the roasted pork is.
If there would be more flavor, it will be a perfect hoagie.
The Italian Style Pulled Pork Sub.
That is all you need to know!
Next time we will order another one to take home, it's too bad that I live 5 hrs and 321 miles away.
With all of the good reviews, I'm hoping my experience was an anomaly. The briskit was overcooked and tasted like burnt pot roast on a soggy bun.
Not sure what all the rave reviews are about. Got the roast beef and hand carved brisket sandwiches. Didn’t finish either. Lacking in flavor
I’m sorry to say but coming from NY I wouldn’t waste the slightest room ona cheese steak over this Roast beef hero. Hands down the best I’ve ever had. I prefer the spinach, provolone and roast but just devoured a brisket sandwich immediately after. 2 and a half hour worth it drive. Phenomenal.
Reading Terminal is an absolute zoo but I'll gladly brave the crowds for their Roast Pork sandwich. It may be the best sandwich ever.
Reading Terminal Market is the place to go when looking for some amazing food! There are soooo many options here, it's incredible! This was my first time here & I was recommended by a friend to try the roasted pork with broccoli rabe from Tommy DiNic's. The sandwich was amazing definitely a must try!
Saw this place on Bizarre Foods many years ago (Roast Pork Hero), and I finally made it here and omg it was worth the wait, but dam, I wish I had this sooner. It was so gooooood! Really good!
Fantastic sandwich. I had the regular pork with everything on it (sweet peppers but not hot). I couldn't finish the entire sandwich in one sitting, and the other half was still great out of the refrigerator. I'm stopping by on Friday so that I can take a sandwich or two home to Pittsburgh. Thanks!
We LOVE stopping here to get a roasted pork sandwich! Line is usually long but moves extremely quick. They know what they are doing!
The brisket sandwich is also delicious as well!
Make sure you get there early because they do sell out sometimes before closing time!
Don't overcomplicate it, go with the classic. Roasted pork with sharp provolone, broccoli rabe, and hot peppers. If you go too late in the day, they are likely to sell out and you will be very sad.
If you’re reading this review and wondering, “will it be worth it? How good is it really? ”, the answer to that question is YES! The roast pork sandwich is heavenly. It’s very basic and savory. If you’re looking for more pizazz, add the grilled long hots (long green chili peppers). Although this sandwich looks like it’s going to be heavy, I was surprised that it felt filling without the weight of grease. Some in our group were not a fan of the bitterness and crunch of the broccoli rabe, but I thought it was the perfect compliment. While I may not agree that this is the “best sandwich in America” as rated by the Travel Channel, this is an exceptional sandwich and definitely worth a try. Keep working hard, DiNic’s team! Thank you for all that you do!
