I really love the Y on 52nd st, however since the pandemic they have changed so much at the y. I guess we all have been changing. They are under new management and i'm just not used to all the changes. It seems as if they have gotten rid of all my favorite classes and one of my favorite instructors. We use to sing in the water and they have a new rule no singing in the water. So i ran across a few things i didn't like upon coming across this management. Which is my personal reason for giving 4 stars and not five.

However, if i rated this soley on their classes and instructors, I would have given them an easy 5 star rating. So here's my list of the best instructors, my top 3. Coming in #1 Angie Ms. Let It Burn she has a credit cardio class if you really want to work and burn alot of calories her class is excellent. Ang will get that weight off of you. #2 Devita Doll she has thee best Zumba you absolutely love her class, great fun and calorie burn. #3 last but certainly not least Arlene had a great class, she does line dancing, and i'm not a senior but she has a seniors class where they rock the house, These old people move better than me. Its a great class if your new to exercising you can make it in this class. She has chairs in place and you can even exercise while sitting.

For the most part, most staff goes over and beyond expectations to help and engage with members. However, the Dir.of Fitness appears to be more interested in her outside business, than ensuring member safety and comfort. Exercise equipment in the fitness center is often unusable for months.
Child care services at this location are great! They have several programs that helped both me as a parent and my children.
Anthony G.and Shalann G.are two of the few stars in leadership.

The most amazing gym/facility EVER. Exceptional polite friendly CLEAN. SPOTLESS CLEAN ALL THE TIME. I LOVE THIS PLACE.

The equipment is up to date clean kept well organized. Weight room, full l basketball courts, pool, sauna, jacuzzi, daycare, spin classes just to name a few things they have there. The best part are the awesome staff and members.

Well equipped to meet any challenge you may embark on healthwise. Has kept me very fit for at least the last 10+ years easy.

Wearing masks while working out is asking for trouble, you can't catch your wind, you may even pass out.

The gym area is always clean when working out there.they have friendly staff members that assist you with anything needed.the front desk workers are very professional, and I’m able to get a good workout in any time I’m there with no interruptions from no one.

The facilities are nice but the front desk staff isn't that friendly. I was disappointed that the staff found it odd that I questioned what this Y branch was doing to observe Breast Cancer Awareness month?

I used to love this place as a child. My father was a life long swimmer and life guard and frequented this location. 6 years ago my father passed away while swimming at this location. It was the most horrific and unprofessional experience I ever encountered.

I was told that my father left the facility alive and was rushed to Misericordia Hospital (currently Mercy Catholic Medical Center). I called Misericordia and I was told over the phone while driving on 95 that my father died and was taken to university of PENN Hospital. I almost killed my self and atleast 10 other people on the expressway that night.

YMCA told me that my father left the hot tub and proceeded to the pool where he seemed to have a seizure and medics were called. HOWEVER when I arrived to University of PENN emergency room I was not allowed to view or identify My fathers body after waiting for over 4 hours. I was told by the physician that they could not allow me to view My fathers body because his body was full of water as he was found in the pool at the close of the night at YMCA. The doctor felt it was best for me not to view my father in that state, no matter how much I cried and screamed they never allowed me to see him, they sent a Chaplin to pray with my family and sent us in our way. The 1st time I saw my father it was several days later at the funeral home where he was already fully clothed and prepared to be laid to rest.

I interrogated every employee that I could find that was supposed to be working that night. The manager was very defiant in giving me the information of the staff and to release any camera footage. Till this day I still do not know who w was working at the facility, when 911 was called, who discovered my father, and no witnesses that can confirm he left alive.

I must thank Ivan Kimble funeral home for all they done for me during that time. As an only child I was lost and had no intention of burying either of my parents so soon. Needless to say I was NOT prepared.

What made the situation worse was that I had a friend that worked at this YMCA location. This friend disclosed to me that all of a sudden anyone who did not have the proper credentials was let go, all other employees went through more trainings and the facility renewed all of their policies and procedures.

My dads girlfriend at the time stated that the staff never watches my father because he was a lifeguard and great swimmer. She also stated that most of the staff was very young and spent most of their time with their faces glued to their cell phones rather than their eyes on the members of the gym.

I cannot say that the YMCA organization itself is terrible, however the staff and management at the West Philly location was not properly trained or equipped to handle emergency situations and to make matters worse they covered up what really happened. My family holds a YMCA membership and I fight myself and a huge rush of emotions just to visit another location. I will never step foot in the West Phila Site ever again.

Less than 24 hours of my fathers death the West Phila YMCA sent several flowers and other gifts expressed their condolences. They could’ve keep the flowers and kept their eyes on my dad, he’d still be alive.

I have the biggest hole in my heart and I don’t think it will ever be healed. If I could give this place negative stars I would.

Good place, kept clean. Too many people sit around holding up machines & benches playing on their telephones.

Terrible, expensive, nightmarish membership structures yet claimed its ymca a nonprofit. Its ceo is making over $450,000.00 (Four Hundreds Fifty Thousands!), close to half a million$$$ a year base salary with bonuses and benefits, massive retirements and pensions! What a rip off!

It is NOT serving the neighborhood like West Philadelphia! Shame!

I love this Y and the staff is usually very helpful. I just wish they would do some renovations. Especially to some of the smaller bathrooms.

The building isn't as big as other YMCA I've been to but they do offer a lot. The workout room has many different types of machines to use. They just upgraded the lockers. The cleaning staff does a great job. I wish they would get some type of cable to watch while on the treadmill.

The front desk staff could be a bit kinder. Except for a few select members, they tend to come off aloof and attitudinal.

I go to the West YMCA at least 2 times a week. I mainly go to the Silver Sneakers class. We have a great Instructor. It is Not only for older members either.
