Xun Yu Si Kao reviews
15 Wow, this place was a pleasant surprise. We were going to go to Chubby Cattle but because the line was soo long, we decided to come here, and we were definitely satisfied!
Food: So this place focuses on big fish pots. Essentially, pick a fish, then add whatever ingredients you want and a sauce, and it comes out in a very lavish plate/bowl. The also had a ton of normal/side dishes you can order as well. We decided to do the pork belly appetizer and mapo tofu, which were both really, really good. The fish looked amazing and tasted good. We decided to have the Hot sauce since they recommended it, which is basically Szechuan. Really tasty! Because it's a pot and you can add whatever you want, it can come out pricey. They do not have a bar, so I suspect you can BYO.
Environment: Service was good! Open space and the servers can easily see you if you wave them down. We didn't have a solo server; I think any server can take care of any table.
Rating: 7.5/10
Pros: Fish was tasty, lots of different items, the pork belly appetizer
Cons: Can be pricey!
Delicious authentic Chinese food that you won't find in most of the restaurante in Chinatown. Highly recommended.
Servers were helpful with questions about the menu. Food was all tasty and only medium spice and mala - I was hoping for a little more. Very nice clean restaurant and approachable for someone who has not had Sichuan style Chinese food. I had the crispy pork with long hot peppers add chili oil and the cold noodles with chili oil and would recommend both, good portion sizes
I asked for food that wasn't spicy and when we got the food it was too hot for my son. I asked to return it for the correct food and was told no and that I had to pay for it.
Got diarrhea next morning after having dinner here.
You will wait for a long time before they service you. Inaccessible.
It's consider one of the nicer, modernized restaurants in the Philly's Chinatown. The menu and food presentation is innovative compare to a traditional chinese restaurant in the area. I gave it a three starts is because 1.when I walked in, the server didn't want to serve me compared to other customers. Unlike the other customers that served with water right away, this server didn't serve or ask me a drink until I placed an order. 2.the food is really salty and tasted so-so. I think it can do much better if they can focus on the cooking.
We got the mala fish pot with striped bass. It was an absolute delight and a huge size (at least two fish in there). We also got the liangfen, which came with crunch peanuts on them. They served a complimentary jelly at the end of the meal, which was quite refreshing.
One of the best Sichuan restaurants in Philly. Consistently good food. Fresh whole fish. Generous portions. Speedy service. What else can you ask for?
Scroll down for English.
The free appetizers, in my case pickled daikon and wholesome soybeans in pods cooked in star anise and bay leave brine, are just perfect. Made me nostalgic. My two dishes turned out just the way I'd like them. The yam fried with black fungus (Huai shan chao mu er) is soothing and provides a great balance to the spicy cold dish of chicken in savory chilli sauce.
The deco is themed around fish and shell. I was delighted by the wall ledge for holding your belongings. This is something I've wished to see for a long long while and now I find it here. A true stress reliever, this ledge is.
Will have to bring husband and friends here.
Tried something new with this kind of fish presentation. It came in this beautiful elevated dish with a flame underneath. Absolutely loved the flavor, complexity, comforting feel, and add-on options. With the add-ons, it was enough food for 3 of us. Such a big beautiful varied menu. Would definitely come back and try something new again!
Good food, staff was nice but took a lot of waving down to get help. We were a bit ignored.
We was backing to VA and decide to stop this location for dinner. The fish and sichuan food are amazing ~~
Very disappointed in the small portion of the grilled fish for the price we paid. Will never be back.
Great grilled fish. Just order the spicy flavor which is the best and most classic flavor. Quite pricey though but the fish is fresh.
The spicy whole fish was good but for the price and amount of food, it was not very outstanding. Their spicy chicken was all white meat and very dry
