22 Bowen's Wine Bar & Grille reviews
20The best clam chowder i have ever had. The texture, flavor, and meaty chunks of clam made for an amazing appetizer. Next time this would be my main.
I'm sick and tired of trying to get a reservation at your restaurant! I’m a Newport resident as well as a Rewards Member. I just purchased $1000 worth of gift cards. What a waste! Last time i do that! It’s the same at all your other establishments. When you need locals like myself to support your restaurant, you’ll be sorry! Very disheartening!
The food is good, but the service, for us, was not good! We are tourists, we went to Newport to visit “The Breakers”… we looked for a restaurant and we found a very suggestive location and good appearance of restaurant, 22B… we thought it would be a great experience, even for the price we pay, the expectation was that the service would be better. I don't know if the employee was having a bad day, but we customers, what fault do we have? She did not listen to us, took a long time to answer, took a long time to serve us, took a long time to bring the bill and even more to receive the bill. I believe that because we are speaking our language, Portuguese, we were not very well attended. The order was correct, but when it was delivered, the meat and eggs did not come as we ordered. You are in a tourist city and you should take better care of tourists, even from nations other than your own.
Excellent venue and fantastic service. McCaffrey was our server and was on point all night. We started with calamari, very good. The caesar was fishy and the clam chowder was average. The tuna was excellent, and the salmon was cooked perfect, but needed just a little more flavor. Our side was the succotash, and it was very good. The dessert was really good. Highly recommend this place and will return.
I have to say.this was really a wonderful experience top to bottom.
First of all, I embarrassingly forgot my wallet. However, I knew my card number. I let the manager (Lenore) know this before I walked in. At most pretentious places they would have turned you away. I really want to commend her for not being typical and being an understanding human being and not making me look stupid in front of my company. It's people like her that restore my faith in all these places that claim to be high end but really could care less about anyone.
Now, you would think that's probably why I liked the food so much and maybe I'm being biased. But truthfully everything was delicious. Order a tuna steak perfectly done. Seared rare and delicious. Also had a filet mignon medium rare and it's was truly cooked to absolute perfection. Had a salad, rigatoni appetizer and lump crab as side dishes with our dinners. All were fantastic. My only critique is that a lump crab should be served with dijonette. Not cocktail sauce. But whatever. No big deal.
Wine list was incredible. Even by the glass they has nice choices.
Dinner outside under the deck was nice decor. Perfect weather and Ryan our server was excellent. To the point and more than capable.
Got really lucky here. Hope it always stays that way.
First timers and enjoyed everything we had. The special scallop appetizer was very flavorful. The tuna appetizer was fresh and refreshing. I had the clam chowder which was very flavorful, just minimal clams and my husband had the filet that was cooked to perfection. No room for dessert: -/
Clam chowder lacked flavor.
Smallest wine pour I ever had.
White wine was warm.
Porterhouse was small and lacked flavor.
Mashed potatoes were watery and lacked flavor.
A very disappointing experience.
The best clam chowder we've ever had! Amazing service, amazing food. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to love their experience in Newport.
Waited for the food for about an hour, and three tables who came after us, received their food and finished it by the time we had ours. Food came cold: Claim chowder, Benedict Eggs and oysters came at the same time. So really, not a good experience considering the price point and location. I would never come here again.
We had a late lunch in a summer Sunday. Enjoyed the covered balcony overlooking the wharf. Service was good, and our meals were tasty.
The atmosphere was lovely and the food was both delicious and beautifully presented. The service we received from Ryan M was outstanding! He was friendly, knowledgeable, and brought us a complimentary dessert:)
Expensive, but great food. Service was excellent, and matched the price. Adam did a great job. Table out by the water afforded great views, but was a little toasty during sunset. Management was involved and interested in feedback, we only had good things to say. Tuna appetizer was excellent, as was the Truffle Mac. Would definitely return!
Not worth it for the price. Three stars for the service only, the food was sub par. Ate here on a Sunday night, it was busy, but we had reservations. The only highlights were the service (it was really great, our server was spectacular) and the wine. The French onion soup, asparagus, and the truffle Mac and cheese (although a bit under seasoned) get honorable mentions.
Our food came out luke warm and I ordered filet and shrimp and my filet was cooked to temp, but came out warm to the touch. My shrimp were somehow over cooked but only luke warm. My wife ordered cod, which was a bit tasteless and only warm, not hot. The restaurant is pricy which is why my review is a little nit-picky. If I’m paying $60+ per plate, I expect high quality. This unfortunately wasn’t the case at 22 Bowen.
Wonderful dining experience to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Food and service made our evening. Thank you to your staff
Come here if you want to ruin your evening, wonder whether you've somehow inadvertantly wronged your waiter in another life, be schooled by the manager on how they only have one bar -and that bar is busy. By now we've all heard about "skimpflation" -well, this is the place to come and experience it firsthand. We sat downat at the table at 6: 50 pm, we still had no drinks on the table by 7: 40. The server was fully resistant to any of our attempts to catch his attention. Eventually we asked to talk to a manager -and the only thing we asked her to do was to assign a different server to our table. She explained that their staff were busy, that their bar was busy, and promissed to "make things right" for us. Then she brought us the wrong drinks. We asked that our order be cancelled, paid for the starters (we did get those), left hungry -and fully reminded of what the service industry has become in this country.
22 Bowens is a classic stop when you take a trip to Newport, the staff is absolutely wonderful the food is amazing and always taste delicious, but definitely recommend others and will definitely stop in again!
I would give three and half stars if I could but didn’t feel that I could put this in a four star category. Location was great and service was good. The food however was lacking. My wife ordered the tuna which supposedly was sushi grade. The tunas texture was off and had lots of connective tissue, she eats seared and raw tuna fairly regularly and barley touched her entree due to this. I had the prime bone in delmonico which was cooked to my temperature liking but at full high end stake house prices the cut of meat was not on par with other similarly priced statehouses. Drinks were ok, they could have used a little heavier of pour and less mix. With all of the options in Newport we left feeling underwhelmed with our choice to dine at Bowens.
First night in Newport and we were able to score bar seats. The staff was friendly and always there when we needed anything. The food was great and they also treated my wife to dessert for her birthday. Thank you, we will be back!
We've eaten here several times and keep returning for various occasions, especially my wife's birthday: she loves the 2lb steamed lobster. It is prepared and served impeccably, and she eats every bit. That's three out of three meeting her expectations. I go for the steaks. This time I had the filet minion, and it was so easy to carve, that I ate it in 1/8th inch slices. It took me almost as long to eat that as it did for my wife to eat her lobster. They are guaranteed revisits.
Not a good meal at all. We will not go back! The lobster tail was very salty and overcooked. The tuna was seared too much and tasteless. I order a side for just me and a side enough for 4 people was served. What a waste of food at my expense. Far better options in Newport.
