Empire Tea & Coffee reviews
18Awesome coffee, so much better than any Starbucks. Not a ton of food options but the egg and cheese was great. The best part they allow dogs! So many adorable puppies.
My favorite coffee shop in Newport. Over the last few years visiting Newport, I’ve made this my spot for coffee. Staff is always super friendly and coffee selection is great. I’ve tried the delicious baked goods and have never been disappointed. They also cater to dog owners, having a treat jar for our four legged companions, who doesn’t appreciate that. They have plenty of space inside and out. Definitely worth a visit.
They got my order wrong today and instead of remaking it, I was told it was right and was given extra shots of french vanilla in a separate cup instead. With a rude tone. I don’t want to get yelled at by two people for getting a latté, no thank you.
Such a cute, lovely coffee shop. Super dog friendly too, which is awesome. We loved our lattes and the bagels are delicious!
The staff are very friendly, but otherwise the place is average - a mediocre croissant, adequate tea, moderately clean rest room.
Cafe with fun seating and good selection of caffeinated beverages centrally located in beautiful Newport, RI.
Tasty food and coffee. Excellent service that was fast and friendly. Friendly staff. Nice location for "people-watching. "
Came here for a tea and a snack - both of which were fine but not better than that.
We got there around 16: 00, and the place definitely needed a tidy by then, there were bits of people's food and wrappers on the floor.
I'm sure there are probably nicer cafes in the area at the same price point, so I would probably give this place a miss next time
It got busy, but you can order online or use ‘skip line’ kiosk. The lobby was messy: plastic wrappers on the floor, drips of coffee, spills, barely anything on the condiment bar. Drinks were made well, but barista on the register did not ring up the proper size. It took about 15 minutes to get two drinks, estimated time in the app was 20 minutes. They seemed crowded and busy, but I think it’s a weekend morning rash. Overall it is an okay experience, but second time we are in a chain and it is quite messy. Last time the size was also rang up wrongly, but they did it in a right size.
Coffee is ok, service is quite bad. Ordering takes forever, and order pickup is unnecessarily complicated and super slow.
The staff is very friendly and coffee is good. But the ambience is average, place is dirty, the shop is not well organized. Not a great selection of food. That's why I rate it average Good to pick up coffee on the go if you want to get local coffee
Great coffee and fun treats. Hungry? Try the Portuguese Breakfast Sandwich.
Awesome place for a quick caffeine fix or a to do a little work.
I found this cafe early in my two-week visit to Newport and have gone back every day since. They have good coffee and great espresso, friendly staff, and lots of comfortable seating both inside and outside. If you become a regular like I did, it’s also worth noting they offer rewards points!
The food was great. The wait people got the job done but I felt we were putting them out by asking any questions. Went two days in a row.
One of the girls working there intentionally not bringing our orders to us even though we are the only two Asians sitting in the cafe. She just pretended not seeing us and then left the sandwich on the counter. Btw, she’s the one who took our order. Hahaha. If you are Asians, don’t go to this cafe. #Stop Asian Hate.
Great black tea and matcha! Friendly service and I bought some loose leaf tea too which is delicious!
We've been loyal customers to this location for 5 years since purchasing a home in Newport. We stayed with this location through Covid and supported them. Today, my 3 year old son needed to use the restroom and like a typical 3 year old didn't give me much notice. There are 2 single stall restrooms and the only one available had "employee restroom" written above the handle. Afraid that my son couldn't wait and would have an accident, we opened the door to use the sacred restroom and I heard "that is for employees only" in a nasty tone coming from the front window where an employee was sitting with another writing on the menu board. I said "I'm sorry he really has to go and he's only 3" and went inside. The whole time we were in the restroom the employees talked about how "we can't read" and other slander about us (my son and I) in regards to using their restroom. After finishing, I passed them again and said to her "I heard everything you said about me" and she said "good I don't care" and I said "I'm thinking when you have kids one day you'll think back to this moment and think differently about how you handled it. " After this, I retrieved my coffee and asked for a manager. When I politely spoke to the manager about what happened to me and my son, she supported the employee and did not apologize. She said it's for sanitary reasons that we are allowed to use their restroom. I replied to her "are you saying that my 3 year old using your restroom could cause you harm? " And she said "you should have asked permission before allowing him in" and again did not apologize for our treatment by her employees. I left in shock and cannot believe this is how our relationship with Empire has now ended. I cannot support a business that treats their customers this way, especially an innocent child. I'm honestly appalled.
