Good place, but for high prices in a smallish city, should get more of a top end experience.

Location is great! Staff was ok.

The rooms were awful, HOT and old. The lobby, hallways hot! There A/C system there is not the best, as they mentioned on a note they give you that the a/c doesn't work all that well because rhwbagae of the building. So if you don't mind sleeping and spending a day in a room that you can't control your rooms temperature, then you'll love this place, otherwise I'd go elsewhere. It's a shame because the potential is there, but the major issue I have is the A/C
And there aren't any microwaves in the rooms, the bathrooms were small.

I'd never stay here again.

We stayed here in late July, and I really, really wanted to like this place - unfortunately, we will not be going back or recommending to others. It started with our journey to the hotel - we were running a bit early, and needed to be checked into our room and off to a family function by 4: 30pm, so we decided to call the hotel to ask if we could possibly get an early check-in (3pm). We started calling the hotel around 10am and continued to receive nothing but an answering service! We tried leaving several messages, but not one phone call returned! Not one person answered their phone between the hours of 10am and when we arrived at 3: 30pm! We were greeted by 2 women at the front desk, and neither of them were extremely pleasant. When I explained that I had been trying to contact them, and asked if it was policy that they don't answer their phone, I was met with a scowl and told that they were extremely busy. Our room was a suite, and for the most part, it was funky and very cool looking - but it SORELY needed updating! The bathroom was disgusting, and the shower tile and shower head were filthy. Not to mention that whatever silicone they used 50 years ago to seal the bottom of the shower door, has completely deteriorated, so the entire bathroom floor flooded with water while showering! We had to use every towel just to sop it up! The air conditioning in the bedroom was a super old wall unit, with no ability to regulate, and pretty much stayed at a tepid temperature the whole time. The hotel itself has no place to purchase snacks in the evening, or water, except for the 7/11 across the street! But the best part was after we checked out and headed to our family function in a nearby city - I realized that I forgot my toiletry/makeup bag in the room. Again, I tried calling the hotel for HOURS, to no avail! My husband filled out a form online for lost and found (which he found out we had to do only because of a recording on an answering machine) - but because we were still in town (and flying home the next evening), we wanted to know if they found the bag, and could we drive back to get it. It wasn't until the next morning that we finally got an actual human being on the phone from the housekeeping department, who finally told us that they did indeed have our bag. So we made the trek back to the hotel to get our items, and again - were met at the front desk by the same woman who checked us in - still very unfriendly. I read another review on here that tells people to "ignore all the negative reviews. " Well, I have this to say - believe them when they say the place sorely needs updating; believe them when they say that the air conditioning isn't working; believe them when they comment on the attitude of the front desk personnel, because we experienced the exact same issues. This hotel could be a very unique, stylish hotel - but it definitely misses the mark.

The hotel had an interesting decor. The AC was not working during this particular time, and my room had a musty/muggy smell to it. Loved that the mall was within walking distance.

Pros:
has a old fashioned luxury flair to it. Design is kind of unique. Rooms are large and with enough storage. Location is close to downtown convention center in Providence, Rhode Island. 12-mins walk from Brown University.

Cons:
Staff is not friendly- check in, other staff and at check out. Everyone seems to be moody and not approachable to ask questions. Bell man doesn’t help with luggages. Sits at the bell desk though; points to the trolley for you to use. Not much information and directions at check in.
Black mold in shower/toilet. Continuous urine smell in shower/toilet (seems there’s some leakage under the toilet seat). Sink cold water faucet out of connection and shaky. Toilet wouldn’t flush without having to lift the lid of the water storage and replace valve to flush. No wash clothes, soap, shampoo and conditioner, all empty.

Arrived on a July night, temperature at night was in the 50s. Unable to adjust thermostat. Called front desk and I was told I should be aware the temperature can only be changed twice a year- and if I’m cold to turn off the AC or/and request a blanket. Did both, but we remained cold all night. Wasn’t a good night’s sleep.
Not much on the room service menu; breakfast menu at the coffee shop by check in is very minimal and staff indifferent (Edward)

Area is with some hills, Make sure to wear comfortable shoes- highly and you’ll definitely get some cardio in.

Will not be back.

Really hideous decor, so many clashing patterns - I got vertigo from being in there. The room didn’t feel very clean, the AC barely worked. Staying there felt very stressful. And then a random $98 charge and when I called the front desk they couldn’t see why (though the woman who helped me was very friendly). I don’t like to leave bad reviews, but I wish I hadn’t stayed here. Stay somewhere else!

AC not working in my room, 82° all the time. Co-worker's room was freezing. No concession area if you forget anything. No fridge in room. Ice machine on sporadic floors. Windows don't open. Old, elevators run like it'll be your last ride. Weird smell. Would never stay again. You can tell staff is used to all the complaints. Don't let "quaint/rustic/historic" fool you.

I am BLOWN away at the service we have received here! If you read ANY negative reviews IGNORE THEM! This was our anniversary night and we were not only COMPLIMENTARY UPGRADED TO THEIR BIGGEST SUITE, we were left with an anniversary gift! We feel SO SO SO SPECIAL! The front desk staff during my stay made me feel so special. I will never choose a different hotel. Thank you guys so so so much!

Rooms worn out, black mold on shower grout. Trash was still in the room from previous people when we checked in

We found bed bugs in the morning, took videos (see attached) and called the front desk immediately. (Hopefully we were not bitten by the bugs or brought the infestation to home!) The front desk staff seemed unbothered, “Okay, take a shower at another room. ” Manager said she cannot offer any compensation because only a “licensed expert” (not your video evidence) can determine whether it is a bed bug and that process "takes weeks. " Is there anything called “guest relation” at this hotel? Are all the guest complaints going to court because the hotel management cannot identify the problems? Can you just offer a free coffee voucher so that we don't feel bad? "No, " she said affirmatively, "only a licensed expert can prove your 'claim. '" We knew we were getting a brush-off because of her dismissive tone.

Update: The original review was posted in Feb 2023. It’s been six months and I haven’t heard back anything. After this incident, whenever I saw the hotel brand while searching for accommodation for future travels, I can't help but recall the image of bug crawling on the bed.

The staff was kind, but that was the only positive of my experience at this hotel. THIS HOTEL IS SO CREEPY AND DOESN’T HAVE AC!

I checked in, went to my room and realized the AC doesn’t work. It was very hot in the room. I then took a shower and the water wouldn’t drain from the tub. Next, I heard a man screaming (like in a horror movie) down the hall then my lamp in my room started flickering. After this I booked a room at a nearby hotel and left the same night.

The lobby is beautiful but the rooms are not high end feeling at all - the wallpaper is peeling and this combined with the other things I described make this just not worth it.

Solid rooms, cool looking interior. Outdated amenities in the rooms, and poor customer service (for example, we had a train several hours after our checkout and weren’t allowed to store our bags which is highly unusual for a hotel)

Staying at this hotel now. The woman with gray hair who initially greeted us was very rude. We looked past it. We got to our room only to learn that the A/C doesn’t work. We called the front desk and after the phone trilled for 5 minutes someone finally answered and told us that she would be sending an engineer. Over two hours later, no one has come. Now the safe doesn’t work. We called again and someone said he’d be sending someone right away. That was 15 minutes ago and no one has arrived.

Just went down to the hotel counter to have a very rude man at the front desk with big curly hair roll his eyes at me. These people need training in hospitality and this hotel needs to be bulldozed.

This is NOT a 4-star hotel experience. I advise everyone to book at another hotel where you can have a much better experience. Never staying here again.

The AC in the rooms does not work. Had a work conference and spent 2 days in a room with no AC. Rooms and hotel are nice, very eclectic, would probably be ok to stay in the fall and winter.

Brutal experience since our room didn't have air-conditioning. Reached out to the front desk, they said a tech would look at it, ultimately gave us a fan, but didn't help much with a 77 degree room. It wasn't just our room, but everyone in the wedding block had no AC. Can't recommend this hotel although it was a great location and solid decor and vibe.
