Louis Family Restaurant reviews
16Can't wait to go back. I had hash & eggs and it was incredible; I wish I didnt live so far away, I'd love to be a regular here.
Charming and very inexpensive comfort food joint. The baked codfish was well flavored and topped with a nice assortment of veggies. The spinach pie casserole was hearty, hard-crusted, and very large for a $6 dish. My partner enjoyed her sandwich, and the coffee buns were addictive. We even got glasses of Merlot wine for $3.75 each. If you want fine dining, this is definitely not the place — but if you want a tasty, filling meal for a song, this is your spot.
Idk how this restaurant is still open. Their food is so plain. The home fries taste plain. Their food use to be so good years ago but now it's just plain boring with no flavor. I use to love this restaurant. They lost my services. Go to Seaplane dinner if you want good homemade tasty food with flavor. They have good price, great quality and their quantity is great. It tatse like homemade food! Once you try their food you'll never go back to Louis. It good for what it is because college kids eat anything but when you know good food your stomach wouldn't settle for less. I can't believe I just spent 30 bucks on disappointment
Can’t wait to come back here. Loved the food and the vibe. Great flavors and mostly made in-house. I’ll be back!
Alright, I love diners almost as much as I love great food and this place is a solid gem! I love everything about this place and I can't wait to go back and try more of the food. Be warned: the portions are HUGE! The food portions are definitely sized for blue-collar workers who are out busting their hump on the daily, so if you're a desk jockey (like myself) you may want to just share a meal with your company (nice thing is a lot of their dishes come in small or large sizes, so they've got you coveted regardless).
Again: love this place and can't wait to go back!
Louis is not a place to go unless you are hungry.
With pancakes twice as big as your face, omelettes and home fries that fill your plate, and fruit bowls that are dramatically overflowing from the plate, Louis is nothing but Breakfast in a BIG way.
As a long time customer I can tell you that it won't take you long to get to know the cast behind the counter. Some may call it family, others call it calculated chaos, I think it's just enough quirkiness to keep the place standing. But it's just enough of everything to make sure that your trip to Louis is never going to be a boring one.
You can't go wrong with any of the specials, or any of the basics, if you want Breakfast, Lunch, or something in between, Louis has it locked down.
Affordable amazingly tasty food. I ordered a coffee, French toast, eggs and sausage and a side of fish and chips. All of it was slamming and the total was just as I suspected. Definitely a happy customer
Folks, if you are in Providence I recommend you to visit Louis'.
There are lots of histories and the food is amazing!
This is a place where the locals gather
Great greasy spoon diner style restaurant. Nothing fancy or outstanding but everything is good. Good value. Occasionally overrun by Brown students but that is evidence of the good bang for the buck and food.
I ordered drunk johnny omelette and it was great! The portion was satisfying and it was tasty as well. Their homefries are sliced like chips not too thin and not too thick.
To start off notified our waitress of food allergy she forgot. (egg allergy) my food was made right next to eggs I had to stop the cook and ask.she was not fully paying attention and added an extra order of eggs to my husband's order. My daughter didn't get her food I had to ask 2xs for them to get her poached eggs homefies and white toast
Coffee was weak but tolerable.
This is an old school hole in the wall. Coffee was strong just the way it should be. I got the eggs and hash. Best hash I've had in a while and the Rye today tasted and looked homemade. It was fantastic!
Classic in town Diner atmosphere with excellent food, fast friendly service. You will quickly see why Louis is so popular. Sit a while, drink in the history, enjoy great food and build your own memories. Street parking may mean some walking. Still worth the stop.
What a complete gem. I am sure folks that aren't as new to exploring the area as my wife and I were will already know of this place.
I got a meatball sub that was absolutely incredible, especially when you consider the $11 price point. My toddler son loved the meatballs. He also enjoyed his grilled cheese sandwich, which was made on homemade sourdough bread. My wife got an enormous- and delicious- turkey club.
The staff was friendly and accommodating. We're enormously glad that we stumbled upon this place!
The water here waters better than any other water i’ve had.top notch. Would pay for the water.best water i’ve drank in my life.
Louis is a portal to a better world. I worked here 20 years ago and coming back feels like being transported to a simpler time. When I was a student at Brown, I learned my real lessons at Louis: patience, service, and work as a form of prayer. Johnny, Albert, and family have been feeding East Side Providence for generations, and this restaurant is at the heart of the community. Simple food, classical music, and true love.
