Museum of Natural History and Planetarium reviews
7This is a very traditional natural history museum. Many examples of taxidermy, some fossils, mineral specimens and the history of the earth. The exhibits are somewhat dated and there's only a few interactive displays, but for $2 you get what you paid for. Most of the exhibits are permanent, but the temporary exhibit on the James Webb telescope is pretty interesting. Figure to spend between 1 and 3 hours at the museum, depending on your kids' attention span and/or how much you want to read. The planetarium show is pretty traditional as well. Good intro for kids, but for the adults, if you've been to other planetarium shows, this is nothing special.
Great museum. Our boys loved the planetarium show and the animal exhibits
Really cool place! We came here on a trip, so we had to distribute our time among different things, but I would have loved to spend more time here.
A Great small museum perfect for younger kids or a shorter trip. A lot of the specimens are well maintained and very interesting. I enjoyed the 30 seat planetarium as well. The late 19th century building housing it all is really classic. Admission price is low. A nice way to spend some time. Visited 3/23
What this place is: a well curated tribute to the late 19th century "natural philosophers" who attempted to catalog every animal, plant, or fossil they could find. Plus some forays into space and space exploration in the 20th/21st century. Expect taxidermy, informative placards/infographics, and a planetarium.
What this place isn't: the museum of natural history in NYC or the museum of science in Boston or the museum of art in Philadelphia. (and it makes no claims to be, based on the 2$/adult admission price)
Worth the 30 minute stroll through the rooms if only to get inside a cool older building, kids will definitely be distracted and may accidentally learn something as well!
Disclaimer: we didn't do the planetarium show because we had a young child with us, but based on the care with which they approached everything else, I'd imagine it's well done.
The taxidermy is really funny, lovely staff and educational plaques. Overall a very old, very goofy but we'll spent time. Definitely recommend
It was Sunday morning, and Mom, my nephew and I got into the car and went to the Natural History Museum. We wanted to be there in time for the show in the planetarium at 1 pm, and we arrived at 11: 40 am.
We wound up having plenty of time to do some exploring on the second floor before the show in the planetarium started, which worked out great. Get this" there's an actual tire from the space shuttle Discovery on display in the museum. And you are allowed to touch it.
From taxidermy animals to minerals, crystals and fossils, there is definitely something for everyone. The show in the planetarium, titled "Our Place In Space", will leave you staring at the stars with your jaw on the floor. Definitely worth a return trip.
