Ran Zan Japanese Restaurant reviews
20 Ran Zan has always been the place that I go when I want to be reminded of my time in Japan.
There is an unmistakable quality in the sushi that is unlike so many other places in Rhode Island. You simply have to try it to understand. Their tempura always hits the right notes of tasty and fresh. The most notable quality of their food is leaving feeling refreshed.
Patience is certainly a virtue when dining here, but if you have the time to relax and enjoy the atmosphere and the unmistakable charm of a family owned establishment, look no place else but here
Worst restaurant ever! Spent 180 dollars for total garbage. The tempura consists like a shrimp, 2 pieces of sweet potato and a freaking leaf and it’s like 11 dollars. Most of all, they took crazily high tip in exchange for a 40 minute order wait that took us like 20 minutes to eat
You must try this place! The outside doesn't look like much but the food is simply amazing. As other reviewers noted, it does take quiet a bit of time for your sushi to arrive. But once it arrives, it is divine. None of that terrible warm rice but cold sushi here. The fish is brought up to room temperature without making it smell fishy. Try it. Go early though, this is quiet a popular place:)
I will not return here again! Overpriced for "flute size" sushi in a foam tray. I am very disappointed that they have comprised quality.
This my favorite sushi spots in Providence.
We stopped by late on a Wednesday night, and got counter seats (my personal favorite spot).
We tried:
- age dashi tofu (friend tofu in a dashi broth)
- hamachi (yellow tail) nigiri
- sake (salmon) sashimi
- unagi (eel) nigiri
- spicy scallop roll (off menu)
- rainbow roll
You get two pieces for nigiri and sushi, and 3 pieces for the salmon.
The quality of the fish is incredible. The yellowtail was one of the best cuts of fish I’ve ever tasted. We went back for seconds! The pricing is incredibly affordable and the staff is the sweetest.
We came here on a Sunday night. My wife and I have been looking for an authentic Japanese sushi spot around Providence for a while. We are so glad we found this place. This is a true authentic Japanese sushi restaurant. The owners are Japanese and you can taste the difference. From the selection of ingredients, the way you cut the fish, amount of wasabi to the temperature of the fish. I can tell the chef cares about his craft by these details. This is what makes them so delicious. This place reminded us the taste of delicious sushi we had when we were in Japan. At first I was a bit hesitant because of negative reviews of service provided by a particular waiter which Is probably no longer an issue since there is a “Help Wanted” sign outside. The owner lady was very nice and friendly. We received very good service even though the place was packed. She was very attentive all on her own. So if you want to know what authentic sushi taste like and lives in Rhode Island area I would definitely recommend for you to stop by and try for your self!
Behind the times and they don’t make it easy! Love this place but their hours of operation suck and every time I call to try to place an order for pick up, no one ever answers the phone. They don’t have an online ordering system either. I don’t want to go to the restaurant wait possibly 30-40 minutes for my food to drive home and eat it.
Terrible at accommodating.had us waiting for 40 minutes before letting us know we could not be seated.
It is the most authentic Japanese restaurant in providence. Unfortunately, the waiter is a absolutely racist. He never properly put my food on my table, always on the other end from where I sit and handled single handedly. I saw his finger dipping in my miso soup and hair falling on my sushi. I never know if he is taking the one I am ordering because he never checks w me. Expectedly, one of my dishes went wrong.
His service was completely opposite to white customers. He was so passionate, polite, and talkative to them however he barely talked back to me when I try to communicate.
Very disturbing to receive racist behavior from fellow Asian. Indeed shame, if you are opening an Japanese restaurant, this is the last thing you should do.
The waiter is absolutely a racist. Only talk to white people. If u are not white u will be waiting for you food for an hour and being ignored. I am saying this because I have being here 3 times and this happens every time. The food is good but 0 service here.
The picture is the empty miso soup that I am staring at for the entire hour.
By the way the food is good and the old chief is very nice,
it's just the service.
Some of the best sushi I've ever had and such a great atmosphere and people that work there I would recommend this place to everybody
Came in at 5: 30PM and had a 80 minute wait till even soup gets served, with only 5 guests besides up. They seriously need to figure out how to arrange dine in and take out orders. Terrible attitude too.
Absolute favorite Japanese restaurant in Providence. Completely authentic and the sushi is always so fresh and made with utmost skill. Service can be slow so don't go if you're starving.
Yummy, fresh sushi, cute mum-and-pop place, small fam business with great customer service and delicioussss food!
This is the best authentic sushi spot in the state! Everything is fresh and it is family run. The sushi chef truly values quality and attention to detail. We love just about everything here and when we think of sushi, there's really no other place better than this in the state. Try the shaved ice with plum sauce for dessert! The sugarplum sauce is homemade!
Authentic food and vibe — this has been one of the constants throughout the pandemic. Note that they are temporarily closed from 5/31 to 6/13
In my mind, the only sushi place that matters. Family run — and let me tell you, it’s the BEST family. I love these people and I love their food. The best.
This is the most delicious authentic Japanese food in Providence. Sushi is fresh, and they offer traditional Japanese dishes like Katsudon that are hard to find. There are many California Roll/chicken tenders ‘Japanese’ restaurants in this town, and fortunately this is not that!
The best of the best! I lived in Japan as a child and am regularly offended by the "asian fusion" sushi from other places. This place is the real deal, my favorite! I love the boat, the miso soup, the shiso ume roll, tempura, udon, unagi, it's all the best
Amazing sushi, run by an authentic Japanese man. Sushi is fresh and has so much love in it and got a bunch of sushi for a really good price! My now go to sushi place. Will be coming back!
