Academy Sports + Outdoors, Plano TX

I needed some workout shoes at a good price and without having to wait for a sales person.

Update 2/28/22 - shelves very empty looks like store is going to close.

I saw that Academy was carrying the brand and model of running shoes I want, and since I was nearby my local Academy for an appointment, I stopped in afterwards to check them out and hopefully make a purchase. They do stock the shoes in my size, but they only stock them in the 2 ugliest colors Brooks makes. I can't fault Academy for Brooks' apparent misunderstanding of style, but there are a couple of more stylish colors available in this model (and other sports retailers are advertising and stocking those colors). So, the buyer for Academy is really the one responsible for the bad color choices that they stock. The salesman on the floor suggested I order the color I want online. I already knew I could do that but was hoping to get a new pair sooner. Strike one.

So I had another brand of running shoe in mind, Adidas, and decided to check it out while in store. I couldn't find any! The only Adidas shoes they stock are athleisure styles. They may have had 1 style of running shoe, but it was not the model I was hoping to find. Strike two.

Looking around the store on my way out, I noticed a very disheveled appearance overall, and I decided that it reminded me of Walmart in that they carry many different types of merchandise, but not a big selection of any one thing. Add in the fact that the sales staff did not appear eager to help me until I asked for help, and I'm just not happy with my experience on this particular day. I am less likely to take the time to go in the store now, which is a pity because they've always been our go-to for sports apparel and equipment over the years. (Hopefully, not strike 3, but keeping it in reserve if there is a next shopping visit.)

Basic Academy. Problem is, I had to price check everything, as the shelf tags were missing for what I was looking for.
The shoe clearance section is a nightmare. Do not attempt if OCD!

Unprofessional. Called before I came to store… asked about an item they checked and confirmed they had it. Drive 25 mins and they don’t have it.never did. I show them which number I called and it was the same store… the excuse they gave is “well we just had a shift change. ” Waste of time and won’t ever be shopping here again. 0/5

They ok but only ended up here because Scheels didn’t have what I needed. They were short staffed af and the employees they did have were so busy it was hard to get help.

Karen is a very nice and caring cashier.

Really, most of those I have interaction with at this store are pleasant to work with.

Nice experience. All employees where friendly and attentive. Store well stocked and many items on sale and available for the costumers.

The Assistant Manger on duty, Matt along with sales associate Chris J.were AMAZING to say the least. They were extremely helpful and accommodating when the items we were looking for were out of stock in store but showed in stock online. We will definitely return to this location. Top notch customer service! Thank you Matt & Chris J, you guys are awesome!

Huge sport store that has everything I could ever think of. Staff also helpful and understanding. Definitely my go to stop for all sports related items. Purchased a final item but packaging was beat up and torn, staff was able to give me 10% off on my purchase. Thanks again young man. One of the reasons why I will recommend this establishment and a return customer.

What great service staff at the store! Had a shopping list for an adopt an angel recipient. Trying to select clothing for a teenage boy when you don't have one is kind of hard. Academy Sports staff to the rescue! Not only did they help me find the items on the wish list but they also suggested getting gift receipts so that anything that doesn't fit can be exchanged for the right size. And it's good at any store which I hope will be convenient for the recipient family. Definitely coming back to this store for the excellent customer service.

We were greeted as we walked in. We were directed to the area which we asked about (men's sport shoes). There was a young lady (T) she was very nice, very helpful and had knowledge about the shoes and different brands. Even though they didn't have what we were looking for, they had some nice sales and we left with a pair of shoes anyway.

Tierra was great at helping and explains things. The older guy that was helping me before her seemed really uninterested and basically tried to convince me to leave without purchasing anything. He told me to go do my research and come back. I think he has good intentions, but it’d be better to just answer people questions.

My first time coming here and I'll for sure come back when looking for sports and outdoors items.
Every single associate I spoke to was really nice and willing to help.
From the time I came in where I was welcomed to me trying to figure out an employees name who was really nice and very helpful and I really wanted his manager to know. I wish I could name each person but honestly every employee in that store tonight deserves a pat on their back or whatever you guys do. But they deserve to be acknowledged for their hard work.
It's rare to find a store where employees are willing to help out and are happy to do it.

Came to this store specifically 6 months ago looking for an item they claimed they had in stock at this location. They did not, and I was passed around from dept to dept. Left empty handed haven't been back since.
Today, I found another item on their website they claimed to have at this location in stock, and of course I got passed around again and no one could locate the item in question. So either this store has poor inventory control, poor training, or an inept staff.
