African Market/Nigerian Restaurant, Austin TX

I absolutely love this place if you want good African cuisine it’s here. If you crave good bitter leaf no other African restaurant does it better

I went there and haven't went back, their service was terrible even though the lady was smiling she continued to throw plantains into my plate even though she had a saucer in hand, tried to belittle my friend asking do she even know how to eat the food, my rice was burnt to a crisp. I guess because we are black Americans I guess the figure we have no culture. I even had to repeatedly get the man to come to the front so I can pay $80 dollars for burnt food and ugly attitudes. SPEND MONEY WHERE YOU CAN GET GREAT SERVICE!

Great food, good customer service and nice parking space. Very friendly environment. I recommend 100%.

This is the pinnacle of “hole in the wall” and I had a great time as this was my first experience with Nigerian food. There was a good selection to choose from and I’m told by my friends that this is an authentic spot to choose from, so I’m glad to have tried them out! Jollof Rice was my favorite.

Everything was gross. Nothing here tasted like we expected and the only flavor was stinky fish but we ordered no and got no fish meat. Fermented casava was just flavorless mush. The Egusi soup, bean paste and fish roll had an overwhelming nasty fish flavor but the roll was not as harsh but very sweet. The meat was just fat and bone on the beef in the Egusi soup, I don't know who could've gotten any protein off of it. I half expect that from goat but not beef, so don't think it was beef but for the flavor difference. The meat pie was ok, the shish kabob was dried harder than jerky but tasted ok.

Very expensive side of white rice. I asked the owner why so much and he stated that he had to pay someone to cook it. The establishment had no AC. When I got there, they turned off the fan. I waited and waited for 3 side items sweating. I should just have walked out. Not coming back. My Nigerian friends were shocked that I was overcharged.

I went inside the restaurant and was not greeted, and being completely ignored there was nobody in front of me after about 10 minutes I left and came to get this review. If you want to be treated with rudeness and disrespect this is definitely the place for you. I will never spend another dollar in this place and the bad thing about it is some of my family are Nigerians do not go there

Very racist towards Americans. I walked in there and they did not serve me. They completely ignored me for about 12 minutes. I left and they had a lady with the door open sitting on the chair. And the smell in there is horrible, place is dark. I just wanted to try the food that my Nigerian family told me to try worst mistake in my life. I will never visit this place again and I would never recommend anyone to go there unless you want to get a very bad and disrespectful experience.

Sam was extravagant. He was very accommodating. The atmosphere in the energy was excellent great hospitality definitely will recommend and will definitely eat there again.

Horrible place, 20 plus dollars for soup, guy kept trying to get me to order meat with my food, when I said no he refused service. Very racist towards Americans. Very unprofessional. You can't force anyone to purchase what they don't want to purchase, very hard up as if he is broke and in dire need of customers. Daughter bought food and it was very little. Food doesn't look like what was advertised. Very unprofessional and loud. No room to park.

I knew of the restaurant when I relocated to Austin few years ago.
I found it to be more than just a place for good food and drinks.
It’s a place I go when I am down to revamp. The owner and staff are like family

Me and my family really enjoyed the food. It was delicious. And it’s so welcoming there. The vibe is great! That’s the place to be for real authentic Nigerian Food! That’s the place to be if you want to eat and hear good music and feel good vibes. The owner and cooks are very nice.

I came to the market to find the final few ingredients I needed for a Cameroonian dish I wanted to make.

I got the pounded yam with chicken stew. It was delicious! I especially love the chicken stew!

This place was sooooo good. We’ve tried a couple African spots in Austin and this one tops every place.

I had to give one star to post this review The food I had here was very bad tasted awful For the amount of money that was spent on my birthday dis ridiculous at this place they Drown the plate with rice with 3 piece of Meet The meat was super hard and very old it was not freshly cooked I'm very disappointed I will never go to this place again they ought to be ashamed of themselves and then a waitress is gonna ask me did I enjoy the food no I didn't not when I was served Old Beef instead of Goat with a lot of fat on those 3 little bitty pieces of meet this place need to be shut down And for the amount of money you spend on a plate of supposed to be food I don't know what that was you don't get vegetables no type of vegetables come with this plate of food this is ridiculous the food was nasty I took the rice to go for my neighbors cats I do not recommend this place
